im in need of new hole saw kit, any good deals/recommendations on kits available, i need to be able to cut wood and thin metal (like cabinets, furniture, mostly thin walled metal) for cable pathways.

Milwaukee has a nice bimetal kit.

Lenox also makes great holesaws. I wonder how the bosch carbide holesaws would work with thin metal?

NERemodelingMember since Aug 2014

Both depot and Lowe’s have black Friday deals on hole saw kits.. Milwaukee at home Depot and Lenox at Lowe’s if I’m not mistaken.. that would give you a nice assortment of sizes and be good for a mix of materials

if you do a lot of thin metal you might want to consider some of the Milwaukee sheet metal specific hole saws with the plug ejector spring. I think other brands also have similar ones but not sure who

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

I have milwaukees kit and ove it.

dwainMember since Aug 2013

for sheet/thin metal up to a certain diameter, are the stepped drill bits better? i love them…

BIGBEARJTMember since Oct 2014

i have and use irwin unibits for small holes, but most holes sizes i need are from 1″-2.5″ think i need to make visit to home depot see what they got.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I got the Milwaukee hole saw kit last black friday. It’s treated me well so far. I would wait and see with the new Diablo hole saws that are coming out they have that cool quick disconnect feature that’s pretty game changing. I don’t know if you saw the TIA video on them. It’s not on this weeks videos its either last weeks or the week before. They shot it during STAFDA.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Yea I was gonna get the milwaukee ones today DR but the diablos also popped in my mind and I told myself to wait but now that I’m reading this thread now I wantem :/

BIGBEARJTMember since Oct 2014

yeap went to HD and seen the 14pc set from milwaukee, for my needs it will work great, also got the milwaukee 3 piece thin wall kit, i was also thinking of the diablo, but TBA on price and availability kept me from waiting. for $39 for the hole saw kit, not bad as i already owned a few of the other odd sizes.

Yea they are the quickest and Milwaukee has some really high quality made in the USA ones now. Milwaukee also has the impact rated sheet metal hole saws with the spring loaded ejection Dmciguin did a review of them. They are nice if your only working with sheet metal. The new Diablo carbide recip blades and new hole saws should make it into the toolbad if they come out in time.

RickyMcGrathMember since Oct 2014

Look at the Spyder ones at lowes. Easy quick change capability.

FazzmanMember since Apr 2014

I have a Lenox 17 piece general purpose holesaw kit and it has been great so far. In the past ive had Starrett and Morse holesaw kits and they were worth the premium.

The Lenox saws work really well,I havent had any issues with them and if they get misplaced or used up or what have you they are easily replaced at Lowes.

I have used them in thin metal such as metal covered doors and such with good results.

Don’t you have Pro-Fit in the US? They are great, but their click&drill system is what makes it a winner.

Those are sweet. Have never heard of them or seen them here in the us

Those new Diablo’s look really nice.

Just checked and they are available in the US, but not widespread (yet?) It’s called Profit Quick Lock in the US

See http://www.profitamerica.net

Edit. It seems the drill&drop feature isn’t added in the US. That’s a shame as that’s the best feature.

Instead you need to take out the drill bit and use the backside to punch out the material.

$416.00 for 8 piece set and $835.82 for 31 piece set these things better be made of gold

RickyMcGrathMember since Oct 2014

Spyder makes a quick change arbor similar that can be used with ANY hole saw. Available at Lowe’s.

FazzmanMember since Apr 2014

Like Rego said those things are way too pricey, for that type of dough you can have a crazy amount of really nice saw kits.

Its a shame that they changed how they function across the pond thou.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I’ve got the 13 piece Milwaukee set that’s always in sale at HD on Black Friday. 2-1/2 years of occasional (monthly-ish) use and still going strong.

I am quite taken with the new Diablo set though.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Spyder has hole saws that are very similar to the Pro-Fit and not nearly as expensive.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

I really need to get me some of these…

great now i HAVE to have one…. well off to eBay

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Hahaha. Good luck 🙂

They used to sell the adapter (that slides onto their drillbit) seperately. So you could attach any holesaw you had, but they discontinued that. I think because they lost sales on their holesaws.

Now their holesaws have the adapter attached to them. Which is one of the reasons why they are more expensive I guess.

Aah. That must be the reason why Pro-Fit doesn’t have the drill/drop feature in the US. Must be a patent thing.

Duns221Member since Dec 2014

i have the milwaukee bi-metel hole saw kit, it works very well on thin walled metal

That Spyder quick change system looks interesting.

Looks like a good deal 13 diffrent saws for less than $20.

Somehow I doubt a $20 kit is gonna last very long, you get what you pay for especially if you use them on a regular basis.

Get a smaller good kit and add on to it as you need, the tools will be better and handle more jobs in the long run.

that $20 kit i would only get if you needed it for one time use.

The only thing I can tell you is you get what you pay for. If this is something you are going to use once or twice a year it may be okay. For 10 more bucks you would be better off getting the Milwaukee kit at HD on sale for $30.00 Hole saws included are: 3/4 in., 7/8 in., 1-1/8 in., 1-1/2 in., 2 in., 2-1/8 in., and 2-1/2 in. When you start to get into larger sizes you can spend some cash. For what I paid for my 6″ hole saw you can buy two of those $20 kits.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

If you don’t do a whole lot of hole saw drilling the 20 dollar kit might serve you well, but don’t expect it to last long. At that price your buying a cheap consumable not a tool that will last you a long time

Yeh I just read the reviews on the set and see it is a weak piece of xxxx.

I let the cheap side take over.  It’s after christmas and everybody’s happy but my wallet.

Milwaukee all the way.

comp56Member since Sep 2014

couple hole drilling tips…..

1- if you don’t want tare out drill pilot hole in center right through stop put desired hole saw on and on the backside run the saw in reverse for a few seconds to score wood then proceed to drill hole as normal on front side. By scoring back surface avoids tare out or chipping.

2- If you want any hole saw to perform better and faster, start hole score wood stop drill pilot hole on outer edge of where hole will be then proceed to drill normally…..obviously it is faster with second drill with pilot bit but the effort is worth it……

So….being the guy I am and the fact I took the day off, I went to Home Dept. Figured I’d look around….found this: Milwaukee 49-22-4026. Missing the packaging around the box. Paid $20. 😀

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Nice deal Chrisk im looking for a set also i was at lowes the other day and I was Lookin at the spyder and Lenox but that milwaukee looks pretty damn nice!!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I don’t know jack about Spyder…..Lenox…..well I just used a 4″ Lenox in my DCD985 and blasted (well nearly broke my wrist) a hole through my sill plate to put the new dryer vent for my shop remodel that is a bad honkin hole saw!

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

yea I don’t know much about them either except reading from what u guys think. is that the set that was out for BF? I wanted to pick it up but I just didn’t and know im regretting it….

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I think it was. But the guy at HD said it’s missing two saws.i. Looked at the bf add and mine matches.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Nice thanks for that link bro!!

Interesting topic considering I am in the market for a hole saw set… I can’t seem to find any clear comparison between the Milwaukee Ice Hardened Hole saws, their Big Hawg hole saws or any of the others… Does someone happen to know the tangible differences?

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Welcome to the forum rrwalker. As far as the differ exes, I haven’t used thenBig Hawg saws. I’m liking the Ice blades though!

rrwalkerMember since Jan 2014

Thanks Chrisk 🙂 I’ve lurked here for a while and love the place!

The only thing I can find that speaks directly to the Big Hawgs is that it may be designed specifically for fast drilling of larger holes… So I am not sure if that means if they suffer in durability compared to the Ice Hardened or what the trade-offs are (if any)..

rrwalkerMember since Jan 2014

So, I did a bit more digging and it turns out the Big Hawgs are made more for wood specifically (hence the design of the teeth, in hind sight, I should have known by looking at it…) Where as the Ice hardened are a multipurpose bit that do  wood, metal, etc but don’t cut wood as efficiently compared to the Big Hawg.
