craftsman miter saw

Hello folks,

Wondering if anyone has had any problems getting a miter saw fence squared up to the blade. I have an older Craftsman Miter saw, model 258680 and noticed today that the fence is out by about 1 degree, i.e. a 45deg. cut to the left is only 44 deg. This makes cutting accurate compound cuts on crown moldings next to impossible. I’ve adjusted the fence according to the manual but there isn’t enough play in the fence to make it true. I might be albe to shim out the fence but gettng a 1 deg taper on an auxilliary fence isn’t going to be a snap either.

Any suggestions??

Good question. My friend had the same problem, but it was with an off brand. I will see what he did and get back to you.
