I’m looking to buy a Kreg pocket hole jig, and I’m not sure whether the K5 is worth the extra $40. I have done lots of research but if the K4 does basically the same job, why should I buy the K5? I won’t be using it tons, but is it worth the extra money for the newer model?
Thanks
The big difference in between the two is with the k5 you have the longer arms that come out for support/storage. They will both get the job done. Kreg Jig is a staple in many cabinet makers toolbox. I use my k5 all the time! So to answer your question I think the k4 will probably be sufficient to do what your needing it to and to save 40 bucks.
I have the K4 and it works great. You could buy the K5 and have the built in storage or.. Save some money and build a storage container for the Kreg yourself.
I have the Kreg K4 system and have had it for the last 5ish? years. I will say the only thing I wish mine had was the vacuum attachment that the K5 has but to be quite honest, $40 is $40 and I like the clamp in the front on mine so….I’d go K4. Use the saving to buy more screws!
I have the K4 and it has never let me down
I use the K4 and the pocket jig. I love these jigs. I can see the advantages of the K5 but you’ll survive with the K4. In fact use the extra $40 towards the pocket jig.
i would save the 40 bucks and put that toward the 23 dollar kreg screw kit (amazon) or some kreg clamps
Save the $40. The K4 is sufficient for your needs
I just won the k5, have not got my hands on it. Checked it out at lowes looks pretty cool.
Awesome Chad! Free is me!
love my Kreg jig…….one of my projects using the jig…..
Pretty cool comp!!
Used my buddy’s kreg jig and love it, can’t wait for Xmas to get my own!
Nice table.
Table looks incredible!
The Kreg Forman is where it’s at!
I have the k5 and I’m very pleased. I haven’t used the k4 for a comparison though.
I had a K4 and its a good little tool. I had the opportunity to pick up a K5 on clearance and everything about it is worth the extra $40. The clamp is on the drill side so no reaching around which can be tough with larger stock. The adjustment process for different thicknesses is much easier and faster. Then the support/storage wings really help out.
As I’ve stated above, the Kreg Foreman is the cats meow when it comes to pocket holes. Granted $399 is a bit much, if you can manage to find one used or maybe a display or returned item at a store like lowes, I strongly suggest picking that up. The only reason I bought one was because Lowes had the price marked incorrectly and they had to honor it. $250 and I snuck in a coupon to get it down to I think $200.

Very nice table!!
I only have the cheap kreg pocket jig and it’s pretty cool to use. Only problem with the small one is that it becomes a pain if you have to drill a bunch of holes.
I like both the K4 and the K5, but If I’m not mistaken, I believe the K5 has a better clamping mechanism. I think it adjusts to whatever thickness of material that you are working with. With the K4, I think you have to screw the foot in or out to accommodate the material you are working with. Don’t quote me on this, I’m sure other’s are more knowledgeable than me since I don’t have either the K4 or the K5.
Your right NaluRash. Dead on. I’ve got the K4 and would love to upgrade but….I just built a base for the K4 for material support and a bracket to hold it on the wall so I’m keeping my girl a bit longer.
Since I got the pocket jig everything I build has pocket screws! I agree it gets cumbersome for multiple holes. I am still on the fence between the K4 and K5.

any kreg jig is good, I also like the my auto clamps too……oh and I’m obsessed with their self tapping screws…..
love this clamp too…..
Man I really need to jump aboard the kreg train guys….
U sure do big mike, u don’t know what your missing
Ok guys so I know I’m far behind in my wood skills and kreg tools but I picked this up today what should I do guys keep this or take back and save more change to get a better kit?
I would probably hang on to it. The smaller unit is pretty handy sometimes in my opinion. I would still probably get the K5 or K4 when you get the chance. I use mine all of the time.Bigmikez wrote:

Not sure what the price difference is but you will be happier with the K4 or K5. With my K4 you can use it like the kit you purchased clamping it directly to the work piece also.
Poker night!
Ok crew so after about almost 2 weeks of buying this kit I got to finally mess with today and I gotta say this opens up a new world for me sorry if that sounds lame but this lil kit is awesome!!! Now I’m feeling like I gotta go get the bigger kits now and build all kinds of stuff lol!!! It really makes me realize how behind I am in my wood working area. I can’t believe how sturdy the 2 2×4’s feel using this and if I had some wood glue I bet it would feel even more.
That’s awesome man. Buy a lot of screws because if you are like me you are gonna put pocket holes in everything!Bigmikez wrote:

Bigmike you can get what Kreg calls a pocket-hole screw kit. It has 5 different screw sizes and comes in its own case. It will give you some variety.

Yeah Mike…check Woodcraft and Amazon. They have specials where you can buy a crap load of screws for like $25. Several times a year. When I first got my kit, I bought a box of screws every time I went to HD and Lowes to offset the initial cost.
. Hey Brotha I was waiting for u to comment on here man!! I finally picked up a kit small but hey it’s a start, I’m really wanting to get into build some tables, furniture etc but man I’m realizing I’m behind on good wood working tools, clamps and such. Sucks cus my money is on hold for now till we can find out what’s gonna happen with buying another home bro :/ I’m hoping I can get the bigger kreg systems during the holidays for cheaper.ChrisK1970 wrote:

At one time I saw someone was running a special on the K5 with the screw assortment kit for the same price ass just the K5 by itself. Might not be a bad idea to sit and wait until a deal pops up.Bigmikez wrote:

Hey it’s a start Mike. I bought my Dad…..don’t laugh, it’s actually kick butt awesome….the Harbor Freight version. His buddy has one and it’s all aluminum. I like my Kreg better but for $60 that thing is a dream! For clamps, Comp has an awesome one. Regular clamps are great too!
. I hope so Kruton! That is the plan my man!kruton wrote:

Hey man have you tried your angle attachment with your Kreg setup yet? I’m thinking I might try it to drive some screws in pocket holes for some shelves in my shop that are in a tight space. Just curious how that will work.Bigmikez wrote:

Lowes is running a deal on the Kreg Tool Box with 1,000 screws and the box. $50 I believe.
