The battle of good vs evil lol just kidding. Here’s the dewalt vs milwaukee matchup I promised you guys earlier.

This was done back in February but was going to do two tests in one video. Long story short I’ve only done the hammer drilling comparison. I have yet to do the wood comparison

Well here it is…

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Wow, that result totally shocked me the Dewalt wasn’t even close I figured it would be close with the Dewalt edging out the Milwaukee. The Dewalt even has more BPM. I’m just totally shocked by the results. The other question is who’s wall did you drill into? Better watch out for the Dewalt mafia and their pitchforks Javier!!!

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

Did u drill into the dividing wall javier??lol

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

Thanx for the awesome videos! This was a good one…#Team Red

JavierMember since Aug 2013

I was shocked too and i couldn’t believe it. I did the dewalt first and was like “wow 57 holes, that’s a lot and its going to be hard to beat” but when the Milwaukee did the same amount it still had 2 bars left on the battery. Looking back at the video, both drills ran the same when it came to how long they ran but the Milwaukee was quicker so it covered more holes in the same time frame

JavierMember since Aug 2013

Lol someones going to be pissed when they find a bunch of holes on their wall and writing. I just hope they don’t watch this video.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

Another great video Javier! Great tests and final thoughts. After everything I think you can’t go wrong with either one. Keep up the great work!!

AnonymousMember since Jan 2014

Well done Javier, only challenge I’ve ever seen exhausting a battery in hammer mode.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Great job Javier!

Awesome review Javier! If you need legal counsel, I know a few of those blood suckers! I’ve got ya covered ๐Ÿ™‚

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

Great video Javier. I thought the dewalt would have done better than that.

JimmijoMember since Feb 2014

Nice job Javier. I like the video, just don’t like to see the truth that dcd995 got blow away from the result:( Rematch! lol…. j/k

I wonder if the 3speed took away the runtime. I also surprised that using the 3 speed didnt handle quicker on the drilling. Hum.. I’m still shocked by the result. I still love my yellow tho;)

dwainMember since Aug 2013

if its anything like the 985 Yimmiyo, the 995 would lose the hammer drilling, but will likely win the timber test, especially if the test allows its 2nd gear use.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Conductor theorizes that that yellow paperweight might have actually performed better in 2nd gear.

DeWalt all day for me…

I wouldn’t even use a dewalt for a paperweight ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow….feel the burn! Wait….that’s the Chinese food. Never mind. Still….Milwaukee Baby!!!

I still prefer the dcd985 over the 995.

isn’t the 995 more powerful, shorter and lighter? how many people really care about the mode selector switch? why would you use such a large drill to drive screws?

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

Both Dewalt and Milwaukee are both F’ing great tools! I would be proud to have either. Or both ๐Ÿ™‚

Punda1991Member since Dec 2013

I like both companies, I love all tools for the most part. But for cordless I go red all day long

JavierMember since Aug 2013

Not so much because the mode selector but because the overload protection was toned down on the 985. Either way the 995 isn’t that much lighter and shorter than the 985

Why would one use a drill to drive screw at all?

Maybe if it were the only tool available, but I much prefer an impact.

PennywiseMember since Mar 2014

I’ve banned the use of impacts when I’ve got some of the guys and the apprentice working with me, they are just too loud don’t know how they are compliant with noise regs. My drill driver can pretty much handle anything an impact can, we aren’t driving huge slag bolts in, plus they wreck screw heads ๐Ÿ™

I may be wrong but to me it seems like impact saves the heads…

AnonymousMember since Jan 2014

As far as the heads go, the only time I’ve noticed a drill to be superior was when I tried to remove some 3″ screws with debris/dust in the head.

Must be the animals working for me then lol ๐Ÿ™‚

Lol…

JavierMember since Aug 2013

In general people prefer an impact over a drill for driving fasteners. Sure a drill is a bit quicker but it’s much easier on an impact driver

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

True Javier, I’d much rather drive with my Impactor. Easier on the fastener, less chance of me stripping it. But my T15 is my primary tool when it comes to drilling and driving the small stuff. I’m building a fence this spring and will be using both with GREAT relish ๐Ÿ™‚

JavierMember since Aug 2013

Same here, in some applications the clutch reigns supreme. I like to use the impact for when driving screws into wood but use a drill when assembling stuff as I can just set the clutch and not worry about stripping stuff

dwainMember since Aug 2013

agreed with above, impact is supreme for most screwing applications. I recently had to switch to a drill because my 886 kept shearing 12G roofing screws going into gal posts!

ย

if i was using a drill for putting in Phillips head screws, i would certainly avoid the 985 if at all possible! Since getting a 12V screwdriver, my impact gets much less use too, so much more control without the impact/ratcheting motion for delicate work.

Punda1991Member since Dec 2013

I don’t really have a favorite lol in the morning I like to use the drill I guess cause the noise and I’m still hungover, then I use the impact when I start drinking again. That’s why they made both

Ha… you are funny; ) true tho. I like to use different tools to do different task. That’s why each tool brand makes 20 different drills and impact drivers for drilling and fastening.

And When I’m still hungover. I use whatever near by me to get the screw in, when I started drinking I use whatever I got, even a rock to hit the screw in. cuz I’m “Hammered”! Lame. lol…. j/k…. I try to be professional when I’m working;)

I use mostly DeWALT power tools. However, I am not bashful about buying the best tool for the job. If Bosch makes something better and I need it, I will buy the Bosch. If Milwaukee makes something that is unique and I need it, I will buy the Milwaukee. If I only have $100 to spend and I need a tool for a job or two, I will go to Harbor Freight. I am VERY lucky to have a father-in-law that has pretty much any power tool that was ever made and he will let me borrow stuff because I take good care of tools. Also, we have an understanding that if I break something while in my possession, I will fix it or replace it for him.ย  I just don’t understand the complete brand loyalty that some have. But, I do appreciate the argument of battery platforms. I must admit, I don’t use my power tools a whole lot so I am okay with purchasing some corded tools that I will use lightly or hardly ever. Our locomotive shop pretty much uses DeWALT cordless 14.4v XRP tools. I let one of the newer machinists use my 20V XR drill and impact. He went out that evening and purchased a whole set for himself to use at work!
