TOWSON, Md. – October 1, 2013 – DEWALT® announces the launch of its new 20V MAX* premium brushless drills with EXTREME RUNTIME (XR). The new XR 3-speed hammerdrill (DCD995) and drill/driver (DCD990) feature a DEWALT-built brushless motor delivering up to 57% more runtime versus standard brushed motors. The XR premium hammerdrill (DCD995M2) and drill/driver (DCD990M2) kits include two DEWALT 20V MAX* XR high capacity 4.0Ah lithium ion battery packs (DCB204) providing 33% more capacity over standard DEWALT 20V MAX* battery packs.  These packs feature a fuel gauge allowing users to check remaining battery power during use.

The DCD995 hammerdrill and DCD990 drill/driver deliver premium power when completing demanding drilling and fastening applications. These tool’s high-efficiency brushless motors deliver 650 unit watts out (UWO)** max power while the 3-speed (0-450/0-1,300/0-2,000 RPM) all-metal transmissions better match tool-to-application tasks speed/torque settings versus standard 2-speed transmissions.

XR premium brushless drills feature an electronic clutch (E-Clutch) helping to minimize front-to-back tool length versus standard mechanical clutch systems. Overall compact size and light-weight design (DCD995 hammerdrill 8.4†length & 4.7 lb; DCD990 drill/driver 7.9†length & 4.6 lb) allow the drills to fit into tight areas while the slim profile and comfort grip handle provide ideal balance and feel.

These tools include a heavy-duty ½†metal ratcheting chuck with carbide inserts for exceptional bit gripping strength. The LED work light with 20-second trigger release delay provides illumination when working in dark or confined spaces.  Placement of the LED work light on the tool’s foot minimizes chuck shadows typically produced by traditional LED work lights located above the trigger.

DEWALT’s new XR premium brushless drills are ideal for high torque drilling & fastening applications including commercial and residential general construction/remodeling, electrical, plumbing, HVAC & mechanical installation.

Product Manager Jason Brodbeck said, “These new 20V MAX* XR premium brushless 3-speed drills complete demanding, high-torque jobsite applications while delivering increased runtime and power versus standard brushed motors in a durable, compact size tool with fast application speeds. I’m very excited to announce the addition of these new XR premium brushless drills which complement our existing XR compact brushless drills lineup offering users a custom-tailored choice between premium drill performance/durability or compact drill performance/ergonomics based on individuals’ various jobsite drilling and fastening needs.â€

The XR premium hammerdrill kit (DCD995M2) is expected to retail for $299-$319, the bare hammerdrill (DCD995B) tool only is expected to retail for $149-$159 and the drill/driver kit (DCD990M2) for $279-$299. Additionally, there will be an XR premium combo kit offering (DCK296M2) with expected $349-$369 retail price and will include the DCD995 XR ½†hammerdrill, DCF886 XR ¼†impact driver, (2) 20V MAX* XR high capacity lithium ion batteries (4.0Ah) and fast charger.

The new XR lithium ion premium brushless 3-speed hammerdrill and drill/driver come standard with a three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract, and 90-day money-back guarantee, and are available wherever DEWALT products are sold. Looks awesome. I like that they lowered the first and second gear rpm’s from the dcd985 which were raised from the dcd970. The dcd985 was a bit of a let down for me because of this. 450 rpm first gear will be great for the biggest self feed bits and 1300 rpm second gear should be good for auger bits. I will definitely be getting this drill after I get the 20v max multi-tool!

Anyone know where I can buy the DCD995M2 kit?  or is it not released yet? (if not when is it supposed to be released?)
