Just bought a DCD950 and this is my first Dewalt drill. Its got massive amounts of power. Sometimes when i press the trigger a rouge spark shoots out of the vent. Is this normal? No weird smells or anything.
That’s no problem. That can happen from time to time (the dirtier or longer that the drill has sat, the more it will happen). I have been told that it is just debris that got in the motor housing burning and being thrown out. I think that with the drill, the brake on it will make it happen more often as well. Either way, don’t worry about it, it is normal.
Sparks are completely normal. Typically the newer the drill, the more sparks you get. If you pull the trigger quick, and release it quick you will see more sparks. The trigger switch runs a reverse current to the brushes which cases the motor to brake. When the electric brake engages quickly you will defiantly see more sparks.
