What is the differance between dw and dc series tools?
DC is for DeWalt Cordless, the DW if for corded tools. DCD is for cordless too. I am not sure what second D designates, but it is still for cordless.

and then you also have just D like the d24000 tile saw.

Not 100% true. I have two DW056 impact drivers and a DW059 impact wrench. All are 18V cordless tools. Plus I have the DW082 plumb bob, DW087 line laser, and DW060 tile laser. All those are battery powered.
I was wondering because I have a dc988 and a dw988 xrp hammer\drill driver. Both being cordless.
I was under the impression that the DW cordless tools were of the older generation. But I’m sure there’s more to it than that.
It makes sense, I just didn’t know. Thanks for the info.

You are absolutely correct. DW was once used on cordless as well. I am not sure when the DC designation began being used, or when/why they added the DCD, but DC and DCD is now for DeWalt cordless.
I’d like to thank everyone for helping me understand the differance.
