I was using my saw and the battery went dead and now it feels like it’s on fire.
Welcome to the forum.
The battery should be removed from service, put in a location where it cannot cause harm if it should become the source of uncontrolled ignition and it should be disposed of properly (NOT tossed into the trash).
Sounds like a short in the battery or something. Sure hope it didn’t catch fire! By now I’m sure whatever cells were involved have discharged but keep it somewhere it can’t burn your house or anything else down and contact Dewalt on how they would like you to handle its disposal (and/or replacement, because I’m sure they would feel inclined to take good care of you after an incident like this).
How old is your battery, if it is too old, then you must change it and check whether it has any kind of physical damage or not, because if your battery is using lithium ions, then it can catch fire as soon as it comes in the contact of oxygen, keep it in a safe place, and contact the manufacturer?
That’s crazy. I have heard this about Dewalt batteries from a couple of people. Not sure what is going on. I would contact Dewalt and see if there is a recall or something. It shouldn’t get that hot. Sure if you are running it and putting a heavy load but it should have a safety feature to stop it in case it every gets that hot. I am also sure if it got that hot, I am sure it damaged some cells for long term.
