If you had $1000 to spend on tools, what would you buy?

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Man that’s a tough one 1000’s dollars can get you a lot of cheaper stuff or one very expensive item. Right now I would like to round out my M12 and M18 line of tools get an sds or portaband saw. I would like to have a nice welder but I don’t know how much I would end up using it.

JethMember since Jun 2013

I would get a plasma cutter !!!

Round Out my sockets and M18 line!!

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

$1000 is a lot. I would do a lot of thinking. Do you have a good table saw? Everyone needs a tablesaw. You could use part of that money on materials. Your going to need a bit for your remodel. Of course Anything from Milwaukee. :). You could wait for those new FUEL’s to come out. What about storage for your tools.

If my computer hadn’t crapped out and cost $1100 to replace, I would’ve bought a Hobart Airforce 250i plasma cutter 🙁 I guess shit happens

DR99Member since Nov 2012

What happened to the computer?

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

I was going to ask the same question.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Mother board went out on my MacBook Pro. $700-$800 for the part plus whatever labor. It was about as cheap to get a new one so I did.

JethMember since Jun 2013

That suck’s it happened to my MacBook i got a iMac insted

DR99Member since Nov 2012

How old was it? for the price a Macbook costs I would expect to get at least 5 years out of it. Apple products are one thing where buying the extended warranty is worth it.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

It was a little over 4 years old, but it did have a rough life. It was transported to and from work everyday, been on dozens of flights, dropped and stepped on more times than you can imagine, etc. It never shut off either. Between work and home I’d guess it got 10-12 hours of use per dad between my and the wife.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

Stepped on. Ouch. Sounds like you need one of those tough laptops.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Nothing is safe at my house. My kids could tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet.

JethMember since Jun 2013

Lol

That sucks.  My computer just went out yesterday.  I don’t even know why.  It just turns on, but the screen stays black and then just beeps

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

That sucks. Everyone’s computers are breaking.

That’s the same thing mine did. It was the motherboard and the part was $700-$800. The other thing the said can cause that is the ram being unseated. That’s free and takes 5 minutes to click it back in. I wasn’t that lucky though.

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

Hey Eric, you should enlist Dan to fix your computer. 🙂

Eric – TIAMember since Jan 2010

I am going to get dan to fix it, but 700 or 800 bucks is a lot.  Hopefully it is just the ram.  Not my day, now my tv went out.  Go news is it was the cable box and that is free, bad news no tv tonight.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Man the electronic gods are not happy with Eric at the moment.

Eric – TIAMember since Jan 2010

Tell me about it.  The cable box came, so that’s fixed, but my computer is still crapped out.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

It’s amazing how shitty 1 night with no TV is isn’t it?

JethMember since Jun 2013

Yes specialy if your computer is dead !

Sheww, that is a double whammy 🙁

Yeah I couldn’t believe how much I rely on TV at night to settle down.  I wasn’t sure what to do with myself and no tv.  My thoughts started to scare me.

JethMember since Jun 2013

Your thoughts ? Like stealing Dan’s tv !!! Lol

You sound exactly like me. My nightly routine is to lay down, watch King of the Hill and Family Guy, and go to sleep. Any deviation from that just screws me up.

JavierMember since Aug 2013

Would probably get me a dust extractor from makita or dewalt, m18 fuel circular saw, m18 7/8″ Sds rotary hammer
