Those are nice boxes. Seriously! If I had it to do over I’d have bought one instead of my tin foil Crapsmn. They’re thick compared to mine.

I have been reading/ watching reviews online and people are talking about how much of a quality box it is for 1/8 of a truck brand box!

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

You can catch them on sale for dirt ass cheap too!

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Yea I’m pretty mad at buying a crapsman toolbox as well as Conductor calls them. It’s too small feels cheap I bought it a few years ago before tool blogs really took off so I didn’t know as much back then. Harbor Freight is a really good place to buy tool boxes I dunno why it is you would think they would be crap like a lot of other things they sell.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Harbor Freight sells a lot of garbage, but they do floor jacks and tool boxes pretty well. They’re chain is pretty good too. Harbor Freight has it’s place, just not for hand or power tools.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Yea its just one thing you wouldn’t think would end up being the diamond in the rough is their tool boxes. They must have a great vendor for them.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

The fact the Caftsman sells their boxes for twice the price at half the quality gives you a sense of how badly you were fucked at Sears.

Eric – TIAMember since Jan 2010

wow that’s a nice box for $400

Yeah it is , how much did you get your Husky for?

Eric – TIAMember since Jan 2010

I believe it was $399, but not as many drawers as the Harbor on has.

waylonbrownMember since Apr 2014

owning a us general tool box from harbor freight its worth it good price good quality you wont be disappointed.

mustang347Member since Mar 2011

Well, now I feel cheated by my crapsman boxes. This tool addiction of mine has my triple stack busting at the seams.

I’ll have to keep an eye open for a sale at Harbor Freight. I’d like to pick up a bottom like that and a top to match.

NC-FordguyMember since Mar 2014

Craftsman has recently revamped their line of toolboxes.  Much better than in years past, just stay away from the “basic” line.  The newer boxes are assembled in the USA.  Casters from China, boxes made in the USA, I can’t say for sure where the slides are made.  I need to dig a little deeper on that.

When I was working for a local telecom company there were several car dealerships on my service route so I got to wander around the service area to fix stuff.  I’d see some US General boxes and would ask the mechanics how they liked them.  Most all those guys were satisfied.

BK13Member since Nov 2013

Just from what little watching I have done, $369 is a normal coupon price, $359 is a pretty good deal, and $349 is like a twice-a-year occurrence.

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

U.S. General box is the best deal a homeowner can come accross for you garage… as far as pros… Snap on and matco’s outrageous prices still take the cake… Idk guys just something about those matco boxes that calls my name… I mean i see 200lbs men sitting on the drawer…that does it for me..lol

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I know what you mean Frankie, there are some things you just like, but the USG boxes are better than you might think and you can buy a bunch of them for the cost of 1 truck box.

If you really want a truck box I can hook you up with a guy who sells a ton of used ones. You’ll save a ton. He deals mostly in Snap-On and Mac, but he does have Matco’s occasionally.

ChrisWMember since May 2014

Hey there Conductor I am looking at buying a Snap on box myself how would one get a hold of your guy to buy  a good used one?

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

I also made the mistake of buying a “Crapsman” after really liking my vintage (Key word here) toolbox (See pic). My grandfather bought this box and he would be dissapointed to see where craftsmans’ gone.

DON’T EVER BUY ANYTHING AT HARBOR FREIGHT FULL PRICE. ANYTHING. EVER.

Especially on the $169 red tool cart or the $369 tool cabinet. There are always always coupons for it. The coupon and sale and parking lot sale thing is all just hype and a gimmick. You can get all those items at their sale price almost any day of the year so long as you have the coupon. Just sign up for the coupons or get the coupon numbers online. You can read off coupon numbers to them at the register or show them a picture of the coupon off your phone.

aluminumfoilcurtainMember since Jun 2014

By the way, I know 4 mechanics, including myself that have that $169 red tool cart. It is fantastic. Our master tech has had it for 3 years and has no complaints. He’s a Snap/Mac/Matco guy but his wife bought it for him. He was skeptical of the quality but it’s lasted him this long and it’s changed his mind.

I know 1 mechanic that has the $369 tool cabinet. Loves it and it’s been great. I’d say it’s definitely on par with Craftsman/Kobalt/Husky boxes, if not better.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

It’s much better than the Waterloo made Craftsman and Husky junk they’re selling these days.

Must be why the Sears near me is closing. I bought some new cloths, mostly Levi’s, 65% off. Funny though, tool prices were marked at 20% off but the retail price was also marked up! many cases where online were still cheaper then their “going out of business sale”. A ripoff for cheap stuff

DR99Member since Nov 2012

You have to watch it when stores close liquidators take over, so they play all sorts of games with pricing.

aluminumfoilcurtainMember since Jun 2014

I saw a Husky toolbox with a wood table for sale for $275 or something at Home Depot today. Oh if I needed a box I would have bought it. But man that metal is so thin compared to Harbor Freight boxes. Feels like I could drop a hammer on a drawer and it would dent. But for 1/50 the price of a Snap-On Box? Oh forget about it! I’ll buy ten of these before I buy one of those overpriced boxes. I’ve seen a Harbor Freight toolbox with the US General decal taken off and a Snap On one put on. Just made a $169 box cost $1,000! Hey, it’s the exact same thing Snap-On Does! Hey-oh!

DR99Member since Nov 2012

That’s the same bench Eric has.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I’ve seen lots of HF boxes with Snap-On badges for sale on Craigslist for a couple thousand $’s.

There is a difference, and anyone who knows anything about boxes can spot this happening, but yes, Snap-On boxes are ridiculously over priced.

platypus20Member since Aug 2014

I have one of the HArbor Freight 44″ bottom boxes and 5 of the 7 drawer side boxes, they are great, built to last, ball bearing slides and the metal is a lot thicker than the Craftsman boxes I have.

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Tell me about it I bought my snap on roller tool box for almost 600$ but it was when I first started at the shop in 2006. My buddy got one from harbor freight about a year or so later and I talked so much crap to him and his is still goin strong,

BK13Member since Nov 2013

Check for coupons, I think those are normally available for $699.
