Bought a Kubota today (Pics added)

Yesterday I decided I wanted a new sub-compact tractor. I’ve got an old one that I spend more time working on than I do using, but I wanted something I could fire up and run. I really liked the Mahindra Max25XL, but the dealership was a couple of sheds thrown up on a parking lot, and the salesman oozed with all the sleaze of the most stereotypical used car salesman you can imagine. I ended up settling on the Kubota BX2370. The Kubota dealer was top notch. They’ve been around for 30 years and have a huge facility with a multi-million dollar parts inventory. It’s the first time a salesman ever really changed my mind. Anyhow, It’s like a lawn mower on steroids. It’s a 3 cylinder diesel, 4X4, with a 3 point hitch and around 700 lbs. of rear lift capacity. I didn’t get the loader or the backhoe as I’d just have to store them and would get little use out of them. I instead got a 44″ rotary tiller, 5 ft. Grader blade, boom pole (old timers call the pig poles), and a 60″ belly mower. I also added a draw bar (should be standard but it isn’t), front brush guard, and tractor treaded tires. I pick it up on Saturday. Won’t be able to sleep 🙂

Wow!! Thats great! I have ridden a couple Kubota zero turns and they are great! Whats the brand of engine?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

It’s a Kubota made motor. 23 HP, 3 Cylander, Diesel. The Mahindra had a 22HP Mitsubishi, and the John Deere had a Yanmar built motor and plastic body panels and hood. The JD I looked at got horrible reviews. I know a couple of guys who bought big JD farm tractors in the last couple of years and both say if they had it to do over they’d have bought a New Holland or a Massey Furgeson. Both have had their tractors in the shop constantly and one of them had his there all summer. JD isn’t the top quality brand they used to be IMO. I’d be willing to bet they make more off of merchandise than they do off tractors.

Congrats wish I had the acerage to need a tractor like that. A friend has the same model tractor he uses the hell out of it for projects around his house, but he uses a lawn service to cut his grass he’s too lazy to do it himself. He really used the loader attachment a ton he want’s to get an excavator attachment though really bad. Yea Kubota has a great dealer network. I have heard good things about the Minihandra tractors though also JD really not so much on the compact tractors there is something about JD green though that’s makes it feel like country living though.

Conductor just needs to convert it to run used cooking oil plus it’s free to a good home plus I hear it smells a lot better than normal diesel smell. Also you can get a PTO generator that’s nice for yard work and as a backup home power source. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/category_generators+pto-generators

We had a rash of people going around bumming used cooking oil from fast food joints back a couple years ago. Eventually, some company started buying it up.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Used cooking oil is used for a ton of things from soap to cosmetics, lubricants, or made into bio diesel.

Nice pick up.  I love Kubota.  Never used a smaller Kubota.  When I was in High School I cut 5 acres every weekend and the owner had a Kubota tractor.  The think was a beast.  Held up and was awesome.

Got the Kubota today. It’s pretty damn sweet. I’ll post some pics tonight.

Congratulations Conductor! Diesel, cool. It will last forever. Your poor old tractor will see no love. 🙁 So are you going to do a video tour your beautiful beast?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Yea, I’ll get some stuff up on it. It’s rained like hell everyday since I got it. When it clears up I’ll gladly share. It’s pretty awesome if I do say so myself 🙂

Never thought I’d ever say that I’m looking forward to mowing a couple of acres! Of course, that was before I spend a couple months with my parents 😆

DR99Member since Nov 2012

It’s crazy how much those mini tractors cost you can buy a Nissan Vesrsa sedan the cheapest car on sale currently in the USA for about what a compact tractor costs. I still really really want one even though I have no land.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I gave $15,000 for the BX2370 with a 44″ rotary tiller, 1 ton boom pole, draw bar, 5′ grade blade, 60″ belly mower, and a 14″ middle buster plow. I also added a factory brush guard and tractor cleated tires. All the implements are Woods brand which are very good quality. It is a lot for a little tractor, but I can do many times the work of a riding mower for many times longer, plus it is completely awesome.

And it will last a lifetime and pass it on to your son! Pretty soon he will be out plowing haha!

I hope to get at least 20 years out of it.

Are you planning on adding any other after market items?

DR99Member since Nov 2012

If he ever does need to sell it the resale on the compact tractors is really good. The only thing I would want is a front end loader and excavator attachment its the ultimate adult Tonka toy. I would be digging and filling up tons of holes in the back yard.

You can say that again, If I owned a lot of property with trees I would buy a blower attachment.

I may add a canopy later on, but I tried to get everything I needed up front.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Here are some pics. The roll bar is off at the moment so it will fit in the garage.

Wow. That looks beautiful! Elliott it be nice if it stayed that clean. Very nice. Like DR I don’t have land, but if I did I would want one of those.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Thats great conductor!! Looks real top quality, now you have to wax it!

Eric – TIAMember since Jan 2010

Wow, that is a nice tractor.  Wish I had one.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

It’s similar to the Diesel “Super Cub Cadets” that you used to see in terms of size, form, and function. Though it doesn’t look like it, it’s a good bit bigger than a riding mower and way cooler. It’s got 700 lbs. of lift at the hitch, but I wouldn’t attempt that much without weighting the front. It has independent rear and mid PTO’s and a selector lever allows you to operate them individually or together. This means that the mower is ran off a PTO shaft rather than a drive belt. There is a belt that turns the blades, but it’s a very thick, wide, belt and is very tight. No slippage whatsoever. The power steering is nice, and the hydrostatic transmission is new to me. I keep wanting to let off the gas and hit the brake, but it pretty much stops on its own when you let off the gas. It’s 4X4 with a locking differential, but I don’t see myself needing the diff lock much. I’m looking for a single bottom plow for it, but they’re around $500 new. I could get by with breaking up the ground with my middle buster then tilling it up good, but I find a used sb plow for a decent price I’m gonna grab it. I’m sick of paying $3,000 for MTD built mowers that are only really capable of mowing and last 5 years before you have to work on the every season to get them running. I wanted something heavy duty that I could do a little farm work with, count on for a long time, and be happy with. I’ll be mowing 2 acres so a 5 ft. deck should help keep the time it takes to mow at a reasonable limit.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Another plus is the Diesel engine sips fuel compared to the gas powered mowers my friends craftsman mowing like an acre and a 1/2 was using 3-4 gallons of gas per mow. He uses his Kuobta more for yard projects than mowing, but he has a lot of trees and stuff to mow around so a zero turn mower would be the preferable option he takes the lazy way out and has a lawn service do it anyhow. I just wish I was one of Conductors 4 kids getting to drive a tractor like that to cut the grass would have been awesome 🙂

Won’t be in the new house for another 3 weeks or so, so I don’t have a real good idea on fuel consumption yet.
