Removing armature from DWS520 plunge saw

I am trying to replace a damaged armature in a DWS520. I have stripped it down which was easy enough but I can’t seem to get the armature itself out.

I have tried:

– wiggling it to see if it would loosen up – nope

– tapping on a small piece of wood that i rested on the drive shaft – nope

Annoyingly there doesn’t seem to be any videos on how to do this either.

Does anyone have any advice?

did you open up the gear case on the other end?

I did open the gear case but there was nothing inside to unclip/remove.
