Did the triple leds leave any of the dewalt impacts then as all the ones I’ve used or had have them ?

The entry level model dcf787 that they released a couple years ago only has one light.

JronmanMember since May 2016

@Craigh9916 On their entry level brushless impact it had only one led. I think it was a compromise to hit a price point.

I didn’t know that I always thought they had 3

I was excited when I first saw ToolGuyd’s post, thinking that DeWalt was looking to seriously compete with Milwaukee’s “next best thing” strategy, where Gen 1, Gen 2, and probably soon Gen 3 tools are replaced/supplemented by smaller and more powerful versions.  When I saw that the new Atomic tools are simply upgrades to non-premium level tools I was less than enthralled.  My 996, 887, and 796 perform better than I personally need them to, but it would have been nice to see DeWalt release superior tools under such a powerful sounding name as “Atomic”.

They look cute and “fun” and I get the appeal with standard size tools often having more than enough power why not have smaller ones that are even easier to carry around if you’re working all day

BiggieMember since Oct 2016

I know its been said before but power on impact drivers has gotten a bit carried away.  Top speed on the premium impact drivers has almost become too much for a person driving 2-3″ construction screws.  A lot of it, myself included, comes down to ego and thinking you need the fastest most powerful tool and most of the time that’s not really the case.  The biggest problem for me is not that its not as powerful but its also still not as compact as Makita and MIlwaukee.  I find myself working in tight places all the time and I know there are places the 887 wouldn’t fit that I can get the m18 gen 3 into.  Then again I think these are designed to compete with the makita sub compact line and compared to those they arent bad.   Maybe the next dewalt premium impact driver will see some downsizing.

I saw what to me looks like the atomic circ saw. Not confirmed to be the atomic circ but sure looks like the atomic.

what is the model number !

it rests on a flexvolt TSTAK box, so not ATOMIC family

release date known ?

the new atomic line is not so atomic. The new impact is supposedly bigger and heavier than the 887.

Yea I haven’t seen a single size comparison, I’d like to see how the drill stacks in size with the Mak subcompact

There’s a good article on “toolguyd” about atomic tools. ..about the only one I see that looks good is the hacksall ( Milwaukee clone) …the specs suck for the atomic tools ,so does the size….

Anything different/better about the “new” omt vs the old one. It looks nearly identical.

Hopefully it’s not so loud and that one screw in the grip (some of you have to know what I’m talking about) won’t get piping hot with prolonged use.

I really prefer the hackzall style recip. saw.  It really shines for one handed use.  You can hold the piece you’re cutting and still control the saw with your other.  We have the current dewalt compact and even though it’s virtually the same size as the hackzall, the handle configuration still doesn’t allow for very good one handed operation.

Yea I was taken aback when I dig into the line a little more, typical big company marketing. The impact isn’t even that small… but will the tools be available at other retailers I’ve heard that it’s allegedly exclusive to HD.

One of those YouTube things pointed out they aren’t indicating “made in the USA with global materials” on these and have just resigned to manufacturing these overseas. I wonder if the attempt to do even that little amount of assembly domestically on previous products is costing them more than they’re letting on and they’re going to be using products like these to recoup their losses. They know most of their regular clientele will buy them regardless. Which technically is fine…the drill sounds like it’s actually pretty good for its compactness, the impact may be kinda meh but if it gets the job done…

Just marketing…I bought the 2 tool kit for $179..they are crap. Not small and no balls…I returned it already..maybe diy guys will buy them.

…as you know I use dewalt (/flexvolt and 20v max)heavily for framing ,but this stuff is all marketing .

@Biggie..I’m with ya on impacts at max torque , we only use impacts for up to 3″ screws..and All our decks are screwed off with drill drivers , much faster then impacts ( cortex plugs and screws)…

…the 791 and makita drill are the fastest. The new gen 3 fuel drill sucked…waste of my money.

BiggieMember since Oct 2016

Yea the atomic series or at least the impact seems to be a pretty epic fail.  I was hopeful too because I’ve always liked makitas approach at sub compact tools but I’m not in that battery platform.  I was also kind of excited to see dewalts 12v line up get revamped but if they’re the same size as the atomic with just a 12v battery I would think dewalt would be nervous about releasing them after the atomic flop.

JronmanMember since May 2016

The atomic impact is only smaller in one dimension vs the 887. Everyone seems to be comparing the atomic, an entry level impact, to the 887, a premium level impact, but when compared to DeWALT’s entry level impact the 885 or the brushless counterpart to the 885, is the atomic not better?

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

@Jronman..the point is its called Atomic…should be small and powerful, its not much better in either case…Ridgid “octane” is significantly better then gen 5x….dewalt should focus on upgrading the 20v line, smaller and more powerful…expanding the flexvolt line significantly… And make craftsman 90% in America and All craftsman hand tools in the USA

ToolBaneMember since Jan 2018

Dewalt should have delayed releasing the Atomic until they could design a suitable impact driver. They did go with the right form factor on the drill in my opinion, emphasizing a little more on short vs narrow relative to the Makita subcompact. I’ll be interested in seeing a performance comparison test sometime. But holding the Atomic impact in my hand, I’m incredulous even seeing how they could think labeling it Atomic made any sense.

Anybody see the Home Depot 20v trimmer “deal” . It’s dcst925. I’m guessing it’s a diy Home Depot cheap version Compared to the original one like I have: dcst920 that’s been working great since initial release.
