I was at Home Depot this morning and it seems like things have gone down hill, especially the tool selection. Has anyone else noticed this?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

My HD actually expanded their tool section over the last couple months.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Haha Here it is down to an aisle and a half.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

They can remove all Husky items from the shelf and it won’t hurt my feelings.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Same here, Husky takes up half an aisle and every piece of it looks like junk!

FerTheHandymanMember since Feb 2013

The one by my house has about three aisles and it seems like their tool selection is pretty up to date.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

It seemed like a lot of things were missing, for example i was looking at the Dewalt hand tools and all they had were a 25Ft tape, framing hammer, fence/end cutters and box cutters. The funniest part is when the power tool counter employee told me that hammers on a hammer drill and impacts on an impact gun meant the same thing…Haha

Husky is shitty. It’s sad too, Husky is an old name and used to make good stuff. It was passed around a few times over the 80 years or so it was around before HD ended up with it in the early 90’s.

The service and wood selection at my home depot suck. Wont even go to home depot for wood. Cant even find a straight 2×4. Now I go to Menards

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

In florida we don’t have any menards, just lowes and home depot.

Is Home Depot a bit like our B&Q stores?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Don’t know what B&Q is. HD is a giant lumber/hardware/home improvement store. The stores are very large and I’m guessing they employ close to 100 people each.

Joe MMember since Apr 2013

B&Q is an example of a European Home Depot/Lowes/Menards.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

There is a difference in the quality between different Home Depot stores and what they stock. It seems to mostly deal with the age of the store with newer stores having a larger selection of tools. One HD by me carries a full line of Bosch tools the other 2 might just have a few random bosch tools like the rotohammers, jigsaws, routers, and grinders mostly their corded tools nothing cordless at the older stores. While lowes is pretty consistent on what tools they stock in each store

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Yeah lowes is my favorite store.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I think the Lowes that is the closest to me is done once the menards they are building right now opens up. Menards has started to open stores in the metro detroit area they were previously in the rural areas of michigan.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Still no Menard’s here in WV 🙁

crazyandyMember since Feb 2013

I hope Menards comes to you because it is a nice place to change things up!

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Do you guys have ACE

FerTheHandymanMember since Feb 2013

Menards is great for selection but I don,t like the power tool selection. Seems like they only carry Bosch, Masterforce and their line of Tool Shop.

We have a few Ace’s here and there. Selection is usually good for the size, but prices are usually a tad on the high side.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Prices on tools in Ace are More expensive here but hardware and some other items are cheaper then lowes.

Yea that’s the only thing that really sucks about the exclusivity deals Home Depot has with Makita and Milwaukee. Ryobi and Rigid were not bad as exclusives to them, but they pretty much have a good chuck of the power tool market with all the brands that are exclusive to the HD now.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

To be perfectly honest, I buy my power tools almost exclusively online unless I find a really good deal or need it NOW.

Same here  🙂

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Same here I can never find a better deal in stores

crazyandyMember since Feb 2013

Yeah me too but I enjoy having it in my hands right away but I can wait when I am saving some good money!

FerTheHandymanMember since Feb 2013

I don’t really buy online unless it’s something they don’t stock in store. I just like being able to hold the tools before I buy them and I usually buy them when I need them so I can’t wait for them to ship.

As Tom Petty said “The waiting is the hardest part”, lol

Both Lowes & Home Depot have multiple stores in the Reno/Sparks area. If one store doesn’t have what I need their sister store usually does. We also have a couple ACE Hardware stores but I find their prices are not competitive. All offer Veterans a 10% discount on any for-personal-use purchase – just show your military or VA ID. Neither Lowe’s nor Home Depot’s web sites will allow the Veteran’s discount when ordering online but you can place your order by phone and get it. I’ve not tried to order anything by phone or online from ACE.
