Yeah baby!

Pretend I am a 3 year old.

I have the current brushless variable speed and I love it.
I don’t understand the hate towards the load sense feature.

Why is a barrel grip so important?
(be kind, i am an electrician, not a carpenter!)

Barrel grip moves your hand closer to the cutting plane so in theory it gives you better control.  Also, the reduced vertical height makes it a LOT easier to get into tight places and odd angles (have you ever tried to make a vertical or upside down cut with a D handle jig saw?).

Yeah what he said.

For me, having my hand closer to the work piece makes me more confident with the cutting.  Personally, I like  load sense. Once it activates the machine gets right into the cut.  The variable speed trigger is nice but having my hand pushing from such a height is not natural or comfortable for me.  You can essentially grip the blade and motor housing in your hand and really get into a turn while keeping while keeping the gravity low so I am less likely to tip the saw.  Really though, it is personal preference.  I would add the scribing boot you can buy for a lot of these saws makes guys that do trim work professionally more efficient when joining two pieces of crown molding together. Not a feature I need yet.

What he said. The current jig is brushed

JronmanMember since May 2016

Did some markets already have a brushless?

Like the “soft start” in Makita? It is an annoyance when coping. You only need couple of seconds to do a cut and soft start can end halfway or don’t end at all.

Of course, this depends on type of wood and speed dial but it is a feature I can do without. I want to set a speed, trigger it and see how fast the blade oscillate at the start or before a cut.

Nope. Brushless.

The Makitas are well known. Speaking about the “current brushless” in the Dewalt subforum is where the confusion comes from. I have the barrel Makita. Soft start sucks. Hopefully it doesn’t stick around

I had that and sold it to a member here. Loved the saw, consolidating and want to get the Mafell. I miss that saw but it’ll be worth it down the road.

To me the load sensing…I can handle it fine but after however many years of being able to control output via the trigger…maybe it’s analogous to driving a manual transmission. The extra control is hard to let go of. I can adjust to losing it but even if the load-sensing power proves entirely superior I think it will take me many projects before I might come around and say I prefer the experience of it.

JronmanMember since May 2016

Why not have the ability to turn soft start on/off? Brushless tools already have elctronic control it wouldn’t be too hard to implement.

I’m 43 and a manual to me is still mandatory equipment for any legitimately sporty vehicle. More utilitarian vehicles of course and I relent especially in frequently congested traffic.

Thanks for the upload. I wonder if the barrel grip will make to Aus/NZ. There has been a lack show events and stockists in the region. Do Dewalt jigsaws have a dust port?

Mattias BlomqvistMember since Apr 2015

F***ing awesome. Can’t wait ’til it hits the stores. Thanks for the share [emoji122][emoji106]

So I own the current 20V jigsaw. Is there any advantage of a D handle over a barrel grip?

I like a barrel grip for a few reasons mainly a switch over a trigger and better handling for scroll and intricate cuts

Most trim carpenters who use a coping foot on their jigsaws for coping molding prefer the barrel grip.

Lots of unhappy guys online, no dust blower or dust port… That’s a bummer

The.HandymanMember since Aug 2015

Yup, I discovered that today when I putting together my post.

So crazy.

Does the old brushed model have these features?

07SierraMember since Jul 2013

We’ll know more later, maybe it’s coming for a different spot?

The Sydney tools video seems too show it blowing the dust out ahead but I dunno, the dust doesn’t really seem too pile up… Need to see what DeWalt says I guess
