The rear handled beast is due in Australia in October ! $369 skin only!
It sucks the prices are so much higher over there. I’m in the middle of a roadtrip and found one on clearance for $261, causing me to immediately plot on ways to buy it and return the kit I bought for $349 last month. Pulling it down, I saw it was saw only, meaning it was either a display, someone stole the battery and charger, or somebody bought it and returned it without the battery and charger (same difference).
It’s a great saw, though.
Also spotted the 4.0ah FlexVolt battery (12.0ah 18v) $249!

Bloody good news. I hope Makita’s rear handle comes out here in NZ too. I am leaning on Makita even though I am heavily invested in Flexvolt.

Don’t see how it’s sucks ? Just how the economy works
1 dollar in the United States is not equal to 1 dollar in Australia. Maybe the price is comparable?

In most cases when you convert currencies USA prices are downright theft compared to the rest of us, but the DCS577B is one of those cases where we all get screwed pretty equally lol.
$249 usd at acme which converts to around $327 asd. That is about $42 premium.

Life sucks for Australian tool fans. It’s a $64 CAD premium for Australia and our dollars are pretty much even.
Prices are definitely high here. I often order power tools from the USA and sometimes they’re still significantly cheaper, even with shipping and currency conversion. No warranty however.
Check out prices of Ryobi in Australia (Bunnings) VS Ryobi in USA.
Dewalt = most power but also most weight, clunky and less runtime and less cutting depth. I own both Makita and Dewalt. The Makita is better in almost every way. The Dewalt has a cool parrallel guide and nifty dust collection attachment so for heavy demo and hard rips maybe it’s better but for all else the Makita is better. My 2 cents.

I don’t think. The reason that tool cost more in Australia is the import tax is higher than Canada. But I think you find property tax is far higher in Canada than Australia. Works out in the end, government needs to make the money up somewhere right.

Punish Canadians. Donald wants me to buy Makita instead of Dewalt lol. Or I can make Xi Jinping happy and buy more Milwaukee.
Gotta do what’s right for USA…we have the right guy in office. I do wish everyone could get tools at a fair price. …nothing better then the 577 not even close…cut depth ? Never understood this stuff…dimensional lumber is 1.5 or 3.5..I joist are 2.5or 3.5….
Lol. Short sighted thinking to say the least. Let’s catch up in a few years and see how that isolationism works out.
On another note; the 575 and Makita will cut 3x, but the 577 is a hair shy if I’m not mistaken. A few framers have mentioned that the 2-7/16 cut depth on the 577 is occasionally a pain in the backside.
@Bremon…575 is 2.55”, 577 is 2 9/16”….Makita is 2 9/16 cut depth, doesn’t matter it doesn’t cut anything the 575 can’t. You have to think in terms of lumber stock not hyped up ads.
There is no pain in the backside with that saw…lumber is lumber, 80%is 1.5”…10% 1.75”…i joists have 1.5” cords x 2.5 or 3.5” width….your never even cutting 2” stock, anything wider you’d use a 8” -12” saw….there is nothing you cut, that it doesn’t cut.
Anything.larger you use timber saws…
Btw
.it’s called fair trade., remember you don’t exist without us protecting you. In 2 yrs you’ll see exactly the effect ..”.we the people, the majority who work and pay huge taxes” voted for him..it’s exactly what we want and the wall….we want companies staying and making products in the USA and providing jobs here…study economics and you’ll realize every country has much more to loose then we do.
…companies like Milwaukee are already expanding here because of him..Dewalt too….automotive companies are expanding here,also…..I want Americans to have good jobs , here…build tools here. It’s all about tools …
enough of that……tools
Framers I follow say it’s 2 7/16 and won’t cut 3x in one pass.
Canada, Europe, South Korea, Japan, Australia, etc. exist with or without America. You have the military you do because your politicians are in the pockets of weapons manufacturers and you have the exact military industrial complex Eisenhower warned about.
He didn’t win the majority vote, and your taxes are low to begin with because your healthcare system is a sham. I find it humorous that there are actually some people that voted for him because of “economic anxiety” though.
Americans have a lot to lose. Including your preeminent position on the world stage. USA hegemony is currently being given away to China on a silver platter. Meanwhile the rest of the G7 is strengthening economic ties with each other because the USA can no longer be relied on. CETA, TPP mean the rest of the developed world is moving on without you. Study economics and you’ll realize that tariffs mean every product you get from Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, Europe, etc. is more expensive for Americans. Fair trade. Lmao. No one wins in a trade war, except Russia in this case. Enjoy your extra $10 per paycheck with the tax cuts while the middle class in America continues to be eroded. We’ll see if your extra ten bucks covers your tariffs, let alone the social cost you’re paying daily whether you like it or not.
Dewalt and Milwaukee were already expanding USA production before Donald was elected. All the profits from Milwaukee still go to China, and your Dewalt stuff is still mostly made in China, Czech Republic, etc. Enjoy cozying up to North Korea though. We’ll see how much Donald learns. For your sake, hopefully not too much. In the meantime my RRSP and TFSA are in for the same rough ride that your 401k and Roth IRA are in for, because barriers to free trade mean my US equities are about to get crapped on. Study economics sometime.
Politics should be debated on another forum. I’m sure I’m not the only one who comes here for apolitical tool discussion. If I want to hear the two sides of the political divide in the US (let’s face it, there are few fence-sitters), I’ll call my coworkers (the military is rabidly pro-Trump) or drive fifteen minutes to the liberal haven that is downtown Richmond, VA. As an American I have certain sentiments, but this forum is comprised of a diverse group of people from a lot of English speaking and other countries, all of whom have varied opinions on American policies.
As for the DCS577, it’s a kickass saw, it costs more or less depending on where you live, and the fact that it’s becoming more available across the globe is a win for both DeWalt and those who need such a saw.
According to DeWALT the 577 is an 1/8″ less cut depth than the Makita. Also I would rather pay for my Healthcare instead of it being “free” thank you very much. I have never used the 577 so I can’t confirm if it has less cut depth. I’m just going from on paper specs.
Apologies guys, I’ll keep my opinions on that matter to myself from now on.
As to the matter of hand; until I get my hands on one I have no reason to believe the 577 can cut 3x in one pass. Dewalts own specs state that it can’t (though their specs have been wrong before). Like @Jronman I haven’t used it yet but multiple accounts I follow on IG have stated as much. More of a problem for the people with only one saw since the 575 will cut 3x because it supposedly has slightly more depth.
What is 3x …? Three sheets of 3/4 ply? Ya it does no problem…..if your not a framer you don’t understand what the saw is used for…it’s function for use is ripping engineered lumber, compound bevel cuts ..wet pt lumber, timbers….not stacks of plywood….the 575 can rip all the plywood you need…
But nothing rips like the 577 …not even close……..
Leave politics out,… clearly people outside the USA that don’t vote, don’t understand why we elected him…. BTW people all over the world ,come here for the best medical treatment anywhere on earth…….not to socialist ,govt healthcare….

Is it not lumber the has a nominal measurement of 3 in?
Are you sure about the warranty? I live in Finland and order most of my Dewalt from UK and warranty still works. But then again we are both part of Europe so that’s maybe a mattering factor.D W wrote:

Not really. I haven’t actually checked with Dewalt. I’ve just been told by someone I know. They might be wrong (hopefully so).
Good to hear it’s OK in Finland.
I have registered all my tools with no problems and I’ve had a green laser repaired and a flexvolt battery replaced under warranty so i’ts worth checking up. Hope it works for you too [emoji106]D W wrote:

That’s dependant on how your local deWalt/makita/Bosch handles warrantee. There’s a 1 year factory warranty across all of Europe for every brand. They have to do that.
But warranty extensions to 3 years isn’t something they legally have to do. For makita in Belgium the extended warranty only works if you bought it from a Belgium dealer. If you bought it outside Belgium, you only get your 1 year commercial warranty and 2 years for diy people as required by law.
