A drill is useless without the bits. Which brand is your favorite and what style do you like?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I’ve been using the Milwaukee bits the last couple years. I’ve been happy with them. The Dewalt bits are alright too. My dad uses them and seems to like them. I’ll never buy cheap ass bits again though. Morse are probably the best bits all around, but the price typically reflects that.

I have been happy with my bits. I got a 4 pack at Lowes for $25 and it had the impact ready, gold ferious drill bits and two normal screw driving sets. I have only had one impact break and it is the #2 drywall bit because i used it for driving every screw i have.

Please define bits please guys, because over here getting your bits out means something completely different.  LOL   🙂

e.g do you mean screwdriver bits as opposed to drill bits or does bits cover the whole genre as over here where anything that goes in a drill is a bit of one kind or another?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I thought we were talking about drill bits. Maybe I misunderstood though.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

In that case may I suggest that Irwin are one of my fave drill bit manufacturers and also Bosch.  🙂

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Any kind of bits

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Speaking of Irwin I just bought a 7 pack of speedbore paddle bits for $7 at lowes.

Good buy

For drill bits I’ve always liked the Dewalt for the bigger ones. for pilot holes I always buy a bunch of cheaper bits because no matter what you get they break. For the auger bits I like the Irwin. I bought a set of Milwaukee auger bits but the 1/4″ shank  broke on them so I’ll stick with the Irwin.

crazyandyMember since Feb 2013

I love my Milwaukee wood bits but I also love the Irwin ones also. The Milwaukee wood bits with the 1/4″ shaft have treated me amazingly, I use them almost everyday. For metal bits dewalt is my way to go!

Standard or SDS?

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Standard

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Bosch 🙂

crazyandyMember since Feb 2013

Yeah Bosch is the best way to go!

crazyandyMember since Feb 2013

And sometimes you get a bit with your anchors if you buy the right brand

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I haven’t bought a non-sds masonry bit in so long I really don’t have sufficient info to have an opinion. In my experience you can’t go wrong with Bosch consumables though.

FerTheHandymanMember since Feb 2013

I buy Bosch for masonry for sds and standard. They have lasted me a long time for the price.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Ever used any DeWalt SDS?

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Yes and to be honest the drill bits were great but the impact screwdriver bits were useless the whole pack shattered in less than a day.

No, I bought a big set of cheap ass bits and I’ve added Bosch in the sizes I use most often.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

I had my DeWalt bits since Christmas. None have shattered yet.

Wayne has a secret he’s not telling you. By night he’s a superhero. He has superhuman strength. Kinda like Hulk with a funny accent and he turns purple instead of green. His super strength transfers to whatever he’s holding like electricity looking for a ground. Rides around in a purple Mini Cooper and survives solely on Earl Grey and crumpets. I’ll let him tell you what name he goes by.

FerTheHandymanMember since Feb 2013

Not me.

No worries turn the speed down a bit on your milti tool, and if you move it evenly left and right as you go I have seen the metal tungsten coated blade go through 700 nails over a day on a display in Manchester they are made in the U.S.A and are brilliant.  🙂
