I have narrowed it down to the Porter Cable 18 volt and Rockwell 12 volt Sonicrafter. Also will DeWALT comeout with one for the 20v line.

crazyandyMember since Feb 2013

I like Rockwell and have always had great results with them!

I think Dewalt is supposed to have a media event soon I have no idea what tools they might announce, but lately dewalt is kinda slow releasing tools for the 20 volt max line. I have the Milwaukee m12 multitool the thing I don’t like is it does not have a tool less blade change. I would go with the porter cable because you get more tools to chose from with that battery system. Ryobi has a multi tool also and itcan also use the rigid job max heads, also ryobi has a huge line a tools to choose from. The only problem with the ryobi one is its only sold as a bare tool so I don’t know how much buying a charger and a battery and tool will end up costing.

I was leaning towards the porter cable for the tooless blade change. It seems like its would save a lot of time

It does. The quick change mechanism doesn’t get in your way at all either.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Conductor, what type of oscillating tool do you have?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I have the Milwaukee M12 and a corded Porter Cable

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Yea I still don’t get why Dewalt does not have a oscillating multi tool when they have one a really nice one allready made for porter cable. All they need to do is change the battery connector and the color.

Does the M12 have quick blade change?

No the M12 does not have a quick blade change its a great tool except for that omission. It’s an older tool oscillating multi tool before the quick blade changes became common.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

I wonder if they are planning to add that to an updated version.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

No quick change for the Milwaukee. Come to think of it, the PC is the only one I’ve ever seen that does have it. Maybe I just haven’t paid enough attention though.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I think the newer bosch and rockwell tools also have it

FerTheHandymanMember since Feb 2013

Yes the new Rockwells have it.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

How does 15000 opms on the PC compare to the 20000rpms on the rockwell.

Don’t know honestly. I’ve never used the Rockwell. I’ve been happy with the PC though.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

I did hear that PC was coming out with a 20v version for there line.

I’d say you can bet on it.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Fein Has quick tool change.    🙂

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Does fein make a cordless version?

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Yeah that is out of the range for me!

DR99Member since Nov 2012

The corded version is priced ok, but the corded one is priced out of this world I’m sure its a great tool.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Fein makes a great tool, but several of the others are very comparable for a hell of a lot less.

crazyandyMember since Feb 2013

There are so many options out there now its crazy

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

Crazyandy is your rockwell corded or cordless?

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I think this is why Dewalt hasn’t released one because he multi tool market is saturated, but its still kind of shitty thing to do to people that do have the 20v battery platform they have the PC18v all they need to do is change the plastic on the outside to yellow and accept the Dewalt battery pack.

Yes they do,but I have the corded one which is just brilliant. 🙂

I agree. even if it doesn’t offer anything over whats currently on the market they still need one. Most people don’t buy a cordless drill or saw, they buy into a cordless system. As popular as multi-tools are, it’s shitty of Dewalt not to offer one.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

That is very true.

JethMember since Jun 2013

I saw a dewalt corded oscillating multi-tool on lowes web site they sell it 159$

Harold WrayMember since Jun 2013

Oscillating multi-tool + Cordless = Awesomeness! I use the shit out of my Milwaukee m12 multi-tool.  Everywhere you need real precise clean cuts or just to cut something quick.

Chase, I think you will love it when you get a oscillating multi tool.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

yeah I was thinking Maybe a Multi tool is where Brushless is not efficient or needed??

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Well Bosch has a brushless multitool that’s being released soon. It might be that the Milwaukee brushless motor is not up to the rpm’s a multitool needs.

firefighter4187Member since Mar 2013

This Multi tool must be going towards the M18 brushed line because the Bosch brushless puts out 20,000 opms where as Milwaukee’s brushed puts out 18,000… I bet Milwaukee has something up there sleeve for the next media event….Im betting on a Fuel sds and multi tool and then some M12 fuel stuff..

JethMember since Jun 2013

For me brushless muli-tool is great cuz the run time is not that good

toolorbitMember since Jul 2013

If you like oscillating multi-tool kit then you should try Bosch. their prices are affordable. They also last longer. I have had one for almost 5 years.check here

The Fein Multimaster is an excellent tool. Take a look, it comes with many extras. http://www.rapidtoolsdirect.co.uk/category/fein-multimaster-blades

Fein is the king of multi-tools, but the price is usually crazy and some of the other manufacturers are catching up quickly.

I noticed the yet to be released Milwaukee m18 multi tool looks to have the same blade holder as the Fein cordless.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I really like the corded PC Multi-Tool I have. The tool-free blade change is awesome. The only downside is that the tool-free feature only works with the PC blades and if you want to use any other brand of blades, you have to buy an additional little adapter for like $10 or $15 that requires an Allen wrench like most others.
