Looks like Dewalt is releasing a Flexvolt Rear Handle 7-1/4″ Circular Saw. Availability in November. The prices listed in the post are most likely CAD since that’s where Tegs Tools is located.

Nice find, thanks ! That is a friggin beast of a saw, holy crap…

Cr8ondtMember since May 2016

Blade is on the correct side and has a hook…. Can’t see anything to complain about.

JronmanMember since May 2016

@Hugh Jass its flexvolt

JronmanMember since May 2016

wow the post was already taken down from tegstools instagram

Bill539Member since Aug 2017

New, but I’ve been lurking around on this forum and snapped a picture of the saw to show a buddy of mine.  Thought I’d share it since it’s not on instagram anymore.  Hope there’s no issues with sharing it.

Looks like a beast. I’ve personally never used a rear-handle or wormguard saw.

I can’t really see the appeal to be honest…

I think it’s just the backwards people of the world like them because the blades on the left side haha.

jevinkMember since Oct 2010

dang they shut this down faster then when I posted the first flexvolt sighting!

Omg I’m in love.

Well it looks like I’ll be moving up to Flex by Christmas. Was contemplating sticking with 20v since there’s been so much support and overlapping tools but this one does it for me if the reviews give it as much love as the Flex 7 1/4″ blade right, with the same motor you’d think it would be just as good if not better.

dwainMember since Aug 2013

why does this make you want to adopt FV, but the regular 7.25″, left-handed FV saw didn’t?

Hugh JassMember since Feb 2015

Because I prefer blade left and I’m not left handed.

these style of saws are not only blade left but tend to have more torque than regular circular saws.

yeah I know, I’ve just never though to myself “this 1500W side-winder doesn’t have enough power” 😉

It’s probably because I’m quite young, and the last 8-odd years that I’ve used power tools (apart from the odd drill), have been spoiled by more and more powerful tools.

yeah same here.

StercorariusMember since Dec 2015

Technically still a sidewinder, just in a much better format. If you’re using sidewinders instead of a skilsaw for framing I am sorry.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

I’m thinking a different motor ,more powerful , not just the same flex circ saw motor in a new shell…..

so the regular sidewinder saw (with left blade) isn’t an ergonomic for you (as a right hander)?

The only sidewinder I don’t refuse to use are the cordless blade left saws. I’ve used worm drives for 11 years and I can’t stand to hold a blade right saw. I’ll walk across a football field to go get my own before I’ll make a cut.

This looks like it will be great.

Agree with the posts from above… I guess I have also never really had a complaint with a basic sidewinder saw not having enough power. Also, I am pretty sure that in the beginning of a circular saw they were not designing them specifically for left or right handed people… the blade was just on the right? (I don’t know that for sure, but a senior carpenter told me that). Lastly, does anyone have a spec on this in terms of weight?

Most likely thesame motor. It’s also a sidewinder, same rpm’s, same size casing of the motor so would expect exactly thesame performance of the flexvolt 🙂

Edit: scrap that! More powerfull motor confirmed !

dwainMember since Aug 2013

i agree ^^. And it doesn’t need to be more powerful, it already matches a 1500W electric saw!

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Why do they keep releasing this stuff???? I need another saw like I need a another hole in my head 😖

Especially the1800w Makita mag sidewinders. IMO the best saws out there. I’d say the blade would buckle or you would get some horrendous kickback before you would mange to stall the saw. There is a reason that no one outside the US uses them and there is also a reason no one outside the US and the Banana republic of bananas still use the imperial system. Because they are outdated sort of like 120v, shots fired. FYI tongue is firmly in cheek

i agree, ive used blade right for over 20 years, then recently i started to use blade left, and i thought this makes so much more sense being right handed.we are residing a house and just a few days ago i needed to make a cut, and my buddy had his 18 volt blade right saw, i started to make the cut and said “what the hell is this bullshit”, he had to finish the cut

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

I do love the left right debate………..I’m just glad there are options…

Hugh JassMember since Feb 2015

I believe it is the same motor and the RPM is the same, but they’re claiming more power than last year’s blade right Flexvolt, possibly through gearing via enhanced torque. I can’t find the video I saw that on right now but if I do I’ll post it.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

I’ll get one and try it for 90 days…because they say it has.  More POWA but never been a fan of those……specs seem the same ,but it’s gotta weigh more

Hugh JassMember since Feb 2015

3.5lbs more, but to me this is a bonus, nothing cuts like a worm drive, the feel in hand is fantastic for rips, just something about it and I think weight is a component. Not fun to lug around but drop that sucker down and walk with it without fear of binding or kickback… and hopefully they’ve replicated that here.

Framer joeMember since Nov 2016

So you think it will cut like a worm drive even though it’s not “worm drive”

Like I said the rep said something like 20% more power/cutting than the sidewinder, has to be something going on if they’re using the same motor as rumored.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

It’s “direct drive” and supposedly has 33% more max output than the FlexVolt sidewinder…it should haul ass.

i have the corded dewalt worm drive love the weight it actually aids in making straight cuts, like you said its a bonus

That comparison video between the Skil worm, the Makita 18×2 rear handle, and this made me a believer, it was absolutely flying. I do feel like the extra weight of the Skil they might have used (mine is like 16lbs) may have increased the plate drag making it slower by default in comparison so maybe not as direct compared to the Makita but still impressive.

I saw more powerful motor at 5800 rpm 2400 max watts out. The blade right flex has 1600 max watts out. quote from toolaholic “Its not just a revamp of the FV sidewinder. This features a more powerful motor to rip through the toughest conditions.”

Cr8ondtMember since May 2016

Hell if there was an XR version of the 6 1/2 I’d be a happy guy.  I’m a right hander and hate using saws with the blade on the wrong side, I have a wrong sided saw that gets some use, but my two main saws are the brushed DeWalt and Skil worm.  Some day my old man is going to not be able to lift his Porter Cable 743 and that day it will be mine!

I just looked up the DSC391 which is what I use daily, and it’s 460watts out.
