This monster comparison is out biggest yet! 7 brands. Mike and I have put in 75 hours all up … :/
Haven’t watched yet but certainly will today, I’ve been really looking forward to this comparison!
I’ve watched and commented, great vid.
thanks guys
Wonderful comparison, thank you for that and I’m glad to see yellow on top, and that all of the drills had a least decent performance regardless of brand.
However (I know I’m that guy always with that one stupid gripe!) the only thing that bothered me was that your biggest complaint against the Dewalt is entirely on your end. You could have gone with the 6ah 20v and had a much more equal and fair comparison. I’m not certain but I’m inclined to believe it would be more compact and have the newer upgraded cells that probably would have provided a slight power boost over the flexvolt’s 6ah older cells.
Either way the end result wouldn’t have really changed I don’t think, maybe just a boost in numbers for this or that. I also find it interesting how you guys talk up the Metabo so much but it doesn’t show in testing, have you changed your mind about the things said in previous video’s on that unit now that the head to head is done?
Excellent comparo guys! Still loving my 996! Cheers!
@Hugh Jass the new XR 6.0 with 10 20700 cells is actually basically identical in volume to the FlexVolt 2.0/6.0. A touch shorter but a bit longer. More juice though. It’s also around half a pound lighter w 10 fat cells instead of 15 small ones.

Thanks for the confirmation, I haven’t seen a size comparison anywhere yet but figured with less gizmo it would be smaller.
Oh well.
Makes me wonder what the other brands are doing to accomplish the smaller form factors though? The flexvolt sitting there is enormous compared to everyone else.
Eneracer/Core integrated the battery cage into the exterior shell of the battery and welded the connections, that’s why theirs is closer in size to an M18 XC pack.
Awesome videos guys good to see my team yellow do great!! Thanks for the time u guys put into this for us tool junkies??
Thanks for the support guys. To ansa your question, 20 V 6ah battery isn’t available in Australia. And Dewalt confirm it won’t be.

I should have mentioned that in the video, it’s hard to remember everything

Big middle finger to Dewalt then. They still aren’t in Canada in the twin packs, just singles, which puts them in FlexVolt 3.0/9.0 pricing territory.
Also just finally watched the video and pumped to see the two full size drills I own do so well. The 996 and 2704 are so great, the yellow is my favorite all-around but the red is generally my go to because I don’t mind abusing it a bit and it’s a bit lighter.
@Framer joe will be pleased to see teal behind them, I must admit Joe, you had the right idea lol. I was surprised to see my Milwaukee outdo the Makita because my buddy at work has one that seems like it can do more work more confidently than the red one.
Great comparison Dwain!
Keep in mind, the Hilti is brushed. The newer 4 pole Brushed designs are powerful, efficient and don’t rely on control electronics. It should be much more reliable and have a longer lifespan.

With their warranty what does reliability matter? Isn’t it 1 day turnaround? For that money I want all-out savage power and runtime and whatever weakness their design has is something they can fix over the course of 20 years.
Hmm two sides of the same coin. I couldn’t dismiss either argument.
Yeah, but don’t forget the twenty year part is only manufacturer defects, not wear and tear. That’s only a two year warranty, if you wear it out after two years, it’s on you.
I’ve always been a fan of your tool fights, top notch of any reviewer! Dewalt kills it for hammer drilling hands down, I noticed the sweet spot was gear 2 for concrete, such a powerful drill.
Owning the Milwaukee I love it but hate the chuck, but when I did my fight the Dewalt is maybe 10 per cent more powerful, just animal of drills.
Cheers mate keep it up!
Yeah, Dewalt doesn’t post big flashy numbers but my 996 has always felt more powerful and rugged than my 2704. The side handle is a joke for what it’s capable of. Big fan of having 3 gears to work with.
Great test….it confirms my assessment of the top three….can’t go wrong with Milwaukee Dewalt, Makita…..just different tool lines…….I love Dewalt tools just want more of them and More POWA! Now send me a 20v bladder already….
A bladder? Dewalt gets you so excited you can’t control yourself and the old one’s worn out? ?
Damn auto correct…har har
It’s funny, no matter how scientific I approach it, people will always think we’re being unfair 😆
I think the problem is that so many decision I make in the background to make it as objective as possible just can’t go into the video, else there would be a 15 minutes disclaimer at the start! lol
Thanks guys, the video is going great! 4k views in first 24 hours.
Seems about as objective as it’s possible to be in my opinion.
I like the looks of the hitachi

The reality is that they are all good. None were terrible. Not one of those were total disappointments.
Unless you go crazy with stress tests and measure heat, torque stall etc., you won’t see huge differences.
Personally I would love to see a water / dirt and dust test. Then you would see a different story. I think the 4 pole Hilti would be surprising after a bath!

Yeah good point @HiltiWpg, different use cases for everyone means a different colour might work best for different people. Horses for courses and all that.

haha, but then I’d have no tools left over to keep or sell! gotta make it worthwhile somehow 😉
Even just staying up to date with latest and greatest takes some deal hunting and savvy reselling lol. Takes effort to keep the wheel turning!

I don’t see how. Even some of the obvious sources of variance (Bosch being upright for one board for example) seemed to make no difference. Anyway, great review.
cheers jkeating
