Looks like Makita finally released their LXOB01 18V cordless orbital sander in the states. It’s an interesting concept and early reviews indicate “surprising runtime”. While the $279 kit price is a bit steep for a sander, those already vested in the LXT line may find the $109 bare tool price a risk worth taking. Any thoughts?
Sanders are one tool that I prefer corded.
But if you have the battery platform already it may be worth giving it a go if you really need to be without a cable dangling about.
I had a B&D cordless one time. Damn thing would rattles the fillings out of your teeth. I wouldn’t expect that from the Makita though.
LOL B&D have made some crap over the years and so have Rockwell LOL
I’ve never had much experience with Rockwell but I’ve used some awful B&D though. That sander is top of the list but I had a jigsaw that was pretty awful too. The older B&D was pretty good stuff until Dewalt came along.
I can’t really see the use for this as a cordless tool, although I’m sure someone will find a use for it. Makitas 18v multi tool would be much more appropriate as a detail sander for the work that I end up with.

Both companies started out with first rate products and then hopped on the “value engineering” bandwagon and ended up poorly. This is what happens when people get greedy.
Black & Decker did the first cordless drill for NASA it was for the apollo lunar mission
Believe it or not, I actually knew that.
