Does anyone have the DCL050 Dewalt Area Light, if so what are the cons if any. How has the pivoting head held up and will this work well in an attic . Has the hook held up and can it be hung by a 2×4. I will probably be purchasing it this week unless you guys don’t recommend it. ANy help is much appreciated, Thanks guys!!!

One of the best stick lights out there! Great light output, the hinge seems like it could be stiffer though, the hook is good just wish there were other mourning options but overall if you have 20v max this lights a must

The only con like Jimbo said is the hinge could b a lil stiffer but other than that amazing light just yesterday with all the high winds we’ve been having my aunt came last night to barrow a light I lent her this one since I have about 3 of them and today she was ordering one on amazon great lights dude definitely one to recommend

StercorariusMember since Dec 2015

Yeah the hinge is pretty loose, but this was overall my favorite work light. Milwaukees included. I kept it in the door of my pickup because I used it so much. Awesome awesome light.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Looks like the M18 stick light, but far more affordable. Looks like great value.

RickyMcGrathMember since Oct 2014

I have three of them. My favorite area light. Hinge is a bit loose but it’s not a huge issue.

Justin HernandezMember since Apr 2015

Thanks guys!! I have heard that the hinge is a little loosey goose

Justin HernandezMember since Apr 2015

So yea 🙂  Thanks again guys!! I’m pretty sure I would have bought it even if it didn’t have the TIA crew approval just because its yellow..lol For some reason I was expecting it to be a little brighter but 500 lumens is 500 lumens. I just bought it this morning so I haven’t used it yet so I guess time will tell I will be in an attic on Saturday. I’m hoping theirs no lights in the attic so I can use this 😆

Maybe they’ll update their light, if that thing had 30% more output well it would be even better

I used mine quite a bit in electrical rooms and under a lot of trucks and engine compartments and maintenance hatches and on winter nights and you get the idea of this grammatically atrocious sentence. It seemed to always be bright enough for close quarters work.

Close quarters I usually had it on low

Love mine, agree about the hinge. Keep it mind the light is a bit yellow, so brightness factor may be off by a lumen or two…

????

Makes sense

I used it today for the first time in its new home, the attic..lol Don’t know if I could give it five stars but its nice it could be brighter and the hinge is loose. But I am super picky when it comes to tools, so my review probably won’t matter. Its hard to see in this picture but the insulation is charred as well as the insulation on those white 14-2 romex’s. The new yellow 12-2 is were the fire started and melted that wire, which I had to cut out the brunt section and splice it. An A/c contractor started a fire in the attic when installing a horizontal fan coil in the ceiling. If you zoom in you can see it better, I like how this had to happen in the lowest part of the attic..lol

is the light brushless?

Only on the transverse drive motor for the lumen spindles. They use a four pole brushed motor for the axial LED preloading as it has more low end torque, giving it 25% more joules at startup over competitors* offerings.

??? Nice, I think another 7x more crunch resistance could be thrown in there as well, whatever that means…

The axial transverse flow only comes into play when it warms up beyond its parallel pattern discharge efficiency

Like Jimbo said, I can find the Dewalt for $50 CAD regularly, Milwaukee $90-100 CAD.

do you need to brush up on your light knowledge?  the puns haha.

Lol, I own 2 of these and love them, my favorite light so far is my M12 stick light, it’s so compact it’s great! But like the setting of the 050 better, the hook and the hinge could use improvement on the dewalt, I wish it was more like the Milwaukee that locks into place.

I had the M12 lantern, DeWalt spot light and M12 flashlight and M12 metal flashlight and the DeWalt stick light. If I were to replace them I would honestly go three DCL050 s and the metal m12 flashlight and it would cost about the same.

I have all those as well and for me each have a different use, I love the Dewalt spot light when I am searching for things that are far away, i.e. seeing if I closed my chicken coop 🙂 Lantern has been great when I take trips or needed some area lights. I do want that new M12 metal light but i think it’s a little steep at the moment, should have bought it when I saw it got $79 dollars when i was away for ~$100 I think it might be a little steep at the moment, but I do like it.

The one thing that was nice about the spot light was the red light. You would be amazed at how often that was useful.

I haven’t found a use for that for me yet, tried to use it to annoy the cat but just seemed to be annoyed I was looking at it.

What are some good uses for the red light?

I do wish there were ways to turn the light on and off at a certain level instead of cycling through them.

Good for not blinding you lol pretty cool if you need it up close it doesn’t blast your eye balls but a low white would have done the same thing, but red light cuts differently than white in the dark it’s much easier to look at

Use it at night, and then look around after the light is off. It kills your night vision far less than a bright white light.
