Normally I would agree, but not in this case. I see starlock plus and max fizzling out first simply because people don’t want to waste shelf space on a blade that only fits a handful of tools. Plain starlock will probably stick around for longer because they are compatible with OIS and Bosch will want to continue supporting its starlock tools. The problem comes in with the tools they’re going to start selling that are only compatible with their select blades, and let’s remember blades are a big expense for OMTs. The big problem with their blades is that the design is probably proprietary so you’re stuck with either overpriced blades or knockoffs from companies so shady they don’t care about the patent. To make matters worse, they simply can’t produce starlock blades at the same price point as an OIS blade because of the 3D connection. It requires more steps, metal, precision, space, and packaging. No more bent, stamped piece of metal. These require some real manufacturing.
The idea of better fitment is good, but OIS is solid enough that with a good tool and halfway decent blade you’re not losing power to the blade slipping. If there was power loss this would be a great improvement, but you can’t magic more power back from nonexistent power loss.
I don’t see any reason to get a tool using starlock over one using OIS. In fact I think it’s a good idea to buy a Bosch OMT now because they make good OMTs and I’d rather get an OIS one before they switch to starlock.
There’s one area where starlock could be useful, and that’s more powerful tools using larger blades or a larger sweep angle that would break the OIS interface. The problem is that’s a whole different class of tool like comparing an impact wrench to impact driver. I wouldn’t buy an impact driver with a 1/2 square head because bit sockets are complete overkill and overpriced for an impact driver’s job.
Sorry for the rant, but I was just getting happy about everything standardizing to toolless OIS interfaces when Bosch decided to throw a wrench in everything and announce starlock.
Bosch wants to keep people buying their high margin blades, and this is a new patented interface. The only thing is I think the Multitool market is saturated now. Look at Milwaukee if they saw it as a market worth investing in we would see crazy brushless versions. They only have a meh M18, and an now ancient M12 with a tool change blade. After the Fein patent ran out the market flooded with copies.

I think milwaukee may actually release a pair of fuel OMT soon because a bunch of OMT accessories recently popped up on their website. Regardless I’m sure they’re not happy to have designed a bunch of accessories only to have Bosch declare them obsolete (not that OIS will ever become obsolete)

Let me know crew is this is a good deal? I found it on a deal app that I usually check out and they have this multi tool on sale supposedly but I even found it on amazon for same price so I’m just wondering if it’s this price all the time or not, Thanks crew! http://m.homedepot.com/p/Bosch-3-Amp-Multi-X-Corded-Oscillating-Tool-Kit-31-Piece-MX30EC-31/205673468?AID=11210757&PID=361116&SID=ebs2d4066077d8816d1452487327306sbe&cm_mmc=CJ-_-361116-_-11210757&cj=true
Mike. That is Eric’s favorite multi tool and well worth it at that price. Plus the 3.0ah motor is a powerhouse. I have the MXH brushless and love the blade change. Absolutely awesome and Fein is actually going to switch to a similar mechanism when they go with the new blade pattern. If there is an adapter for the new blade styles (i didn’t read the whole article…no boobies, no interest….) this would be a crazy deal for their corded machine.

can’t go wrong with either the hoodie or the saw…..good deal for $200
The price on the old fuel sets just dropped to $299 for drill and impact with two 4AH batteries and $229 for just the drill with two 3AH batteries.
Of course you could also use their $150 off the gen2 fuel drill and impact kit for $399 combined with an extra charger for $59 to get the new fuel kit for $308. Then it looks like you could return the charger and keep the impact and drill kit for $270. Do the people who come up with these sales just not understand math?
I’d still like to point out what a good deal that is to get $150 off the gen2 fuel kit with a bare tool add-on. That has me seriously considering a switch running dual Milwaukee and Makita.
$100 off five piece Ridgid tools

Looks like there are some glitches in homedepot.com because the dewalt mini blower shows as $70 from the search page but still $100 on the product page. Same goes for a ryobi corded OMT that’s $20 on the search page and $40 on the product page.
There’s also this for a dollar. Who can pass it up at that price.

I tried to order 8 if those bucket jockeys but it wouldn’t let me unless I pick up in store. Bummer.

Yeah – You’ve heard of 1 hour and 30 minute chargers? Well, the one that this one comes with takes all f$*%#$ night to charge your battery, and that’s being generous. I got one as part of a brad nailer kit and all I can say is that while it DOES charge the batteries, I wouldn’t want to have to sit around waiting for it. I think the 4.0s took 2-3 days to bring to 100% from empty. On the positive side, it won’t overcharge and make them explode, so it’s got that going for it.

If I were working hourly I’d love a battery that takes three days to charge.
Anyone have any ideas about the glitch on homedepot.com? I don’t particularly want either of those items, but I’m curious if they’d give you the lower price.
Yeah the Dewalt rings up as $99 🙁
Wow, that is an awesome price on the X4 Kit! Lifetime warranty…..I would almost get that.

I picked this makita kit up today along with a ryobi $20 power screwdriver for $170 out the door! The kit was clearance to $279 and the ryobi triggered the $150 promo. The kit is normally $399.

I like how makita has a depth gauge, I wish other brands would put that on their cordless drills.
Not a killer power tool deal but the Milwaukee 11-in-1 screwdriver is on sale for $8 now: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-11-in-1-Multi-Tip-Screwdriver-with-ECX-Bits-48-22-2113/202206148

That’s a nice little screwdriver to have a couple strategically around for when you need them lol.
Here’s another that comes with a stubby for a bit more http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-10-in-1-Ratcheting-Multi-Driver-Square-Drive-Bits-with-8-in-1-Compact-Driver-48-22-2302P/206260201

I already have a Bosch circular saw. I was looking for a hammer drill from Bosch as that is what I am invested in with impact, drill, circ saw, jig saw. This ends up being close in price with all the extras and allows me to supplement in tools that Bosch is lacking in. Been thinking some of the outdoor tools.kruton wrote:

According to a post elsewhere, the Ridgid x5 Brushless Hammer Drill, Circ Saw, 2 Ah battery, 4 Ah battery and charger are down to $139 in store if you can still find them. They were $179 around the holidays, $149 when I bought it a few weeks ago and now $139. The saw is awesome (7 1/4″). And there is always the LSA.
The Ridgid blower was down to $59 at the store closest to me.
The milwaukee fastback box cutter two pack was down to $7
Man I went to my HD yesterday and they didn’t have nothing!! They never really do…. Sweet deals shuutr!

The ones near me are the sameway. The worst tool inventory. Not like the one Dan goes too. My god, I would think I died and went to heaven at his Home Depot.
That’s funny, I wish they had the fast backs in stock near me. They are always out.Shuutr wrote:

in Canada or in the province of Ontario we also have what they call SCOP Scanning Code of Practice:
A little secret that a lot of shoppers do not know about is something called “SCOP”. The Scanning Code of Practice (SCOP) is a promise from the retailer to their customers that there will be accurate scanning at the register on all Universal Product Codes (UPCs).
SCOP is a scanning code that almost every major retailer in Canada abides by. It essentially means “the price we have listed on our shelves will be the price that rings up at the register”.
If the product scans in at a price HIGHER than the price listed on the shelf, the customer is entitled to receive the item free, up to a $10 maximum (customer will receive $10 off when the item costs $10 or more).
SCOP does not include pharmacy related products
The Scanning Code of Practice is endorsed by the Competition Bureau of Canada and was created from the collaborative efforts of the Retail Council of Canada, the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores, the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers and the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors.
