M18 9.0 battery on HD’s site $199: not in stock yet

Laser is old I believe. Quite old. Pricing on the 9.0 sort of sucks. We will see what a potential 2-pack goes for, and what it costs as an extra in a tool kit. That will likely be the better way to go. Otherwise here in Canada it will likely be $250 and I can’t see that flying.

Dewalt is calling the shots on this one, they don’t have much choice but to compete…or at least try.

Kinda makes the m18 miter kit a better looking deal, not that I thought it was bad before for a decent cordless 10″.  You figure saw+$199 battery +  $79 rapid charger for $650 isn’t so bad. I’m not really interested in buying a 9.0 a la carte but figure I’ll grab one in the miter kit. I don’t really need such a huge amp battery but it never hurts to have the extra runtime for lights and vacs etc. (hopefully it fits in the m18 vac too)…

True it ain’t cheap but supposedly it will outlast 2×5.0 amp batteries so if it can replace two of those it isn’t crazy…but yeah I wish it was cheaper…

I imagine there will be free 9.0 battery offers with tool purchases soon enough

BremonMember since Dec 2014

You guys make great points. I’m sure they will be competing hard against FlexVolt which should ease the burden on our wallets.

Jerry, I’m quite confident it will fit the vacuum, I’m willing to modify the battery compartment a bit (I have no use whatsoever for the legacy support for V18).

I can get 2x 5.0 for $199 Canadian. Higher than that for 9.0 and they can take forget about it. I’m quite certain it will fit the fan as well, but the bottom of the pack

may well be as low as the feet.

Looking forward to Canadian pricing on the Fuel miter vs FlexVolt.

Well… just bought a bunch of batteries from OddosFence… so I’m set.. but when the string trimmer and blower come out next year, maybe. Just maybe

sparky603Member since Jun 2014

With like 15 4.0 and 5.0’s and the Rapid Charge Station, I’m all set. If I get my hands on the SDS-Max ever, then probably.

Yeah I don’t really doubt it will fit the m18 vac but it’s just that it’s a completely enclosed battery compartment so you never know. In retrospect it worked out well they made it support both m18 and v18 connectors because oherwise they might have been tempted make the opening smaller to just fit the XC sized battery.

200 bucks for a fucking battery that is just quite frankly absurd.

It ain’t cheap but Milwaukee batteries never are. Dewalts flexvolt 6.0 amp battery is $149, how much is their 9amp pack gonna cost? Prob $200 as well…

Yes. However, for the same price you could also get a Kobalt Brushless circular saw and a 4.0 and 2.0 battery ??????????????

The catch is the two pack of the 6’s cost $199. So for the same cost you get all the same amp as the Milwaukee, plus an additional 3ah in a 2 battery form factor which offers more flexibility.

As for the cost of it compared to Milwaukee’s other batteries, it’s spot on really, 2 5ah cost $199 as well, so they run more expensive as it is. It makes sense in it’s own ecosystem, just not quite the value compared to Dewalt.

Yes, I just don’t have any dewalt tools so I’m not comparing the batteries to each other, just to the current m18 batteries

The real catch where I’m concerned is that 2 packs are always cheaper, and around me Dewalt batteries are barely cheaper than Milwaukee batteries, so yellow vs red all comes out in the wash for me unfortunately.

Plus, lower capacity batteries are always cheaper. If we wanted maximum amp hour versatility we’d all be sitting on mountains of 3.0 10 cell packs that they blow out at bargain prices multiple times a year, but the point is not to be changing batteries so much.

It’s a tough line to walk for performance vs value. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a two pack for $250 for 9.0, but we will see where things shake out. I don’t know that I would need multiple 15 cell batteries. Unlike new Dewalt, this isn’t necessarily a platform where you need to have so many super-pac(k)s you could make a political party jealous.  😛

As an aside, I was initially quite interested in the blower and string trimmer but at this point I might end up just jumping into Ego, the mower is appealing, and both the blower and string trimmer have had new versions come out vs Milwaukee’s first attempt.

Milwaukees own 5.0 amp two pack is $199 as well. You can’t really compare multi packs of lower capacity, you always pay a premium for single larger capacity packs for all tool makers unfortunately.

Milwaukee might not win on pure price point, but I bet they will have an offer that makes it worth buying.

I like the ruggedness of the milwaukee batteries that you don’t get with Makita or Dewalt, I’ve dropped them a good height and they remain in tact with the rubber foot on the battery

I do like the rubber on the M18 and 12v batteries. it helps keep them from sliding around on surfaces that I don’t want them to

Yea the plastic on the Makita batteries feels kind of thin, dewalts aren’t too bad but not like the milwaukees are

ya Milwaukee batteries seem like they could survive falling off the back of a moving truck, not that I would test it…lol

BremonMember since Dec 2014

They like to claim they have the most durable packs on the market. I would believe it, the rubber overmold, and the different retention compared to Dewalt and Makita were additional reasons I went with M18. I’ve taken my 5.0s apart and they have very nice tolerances.

Doing demo I usually use the battery of the sawzall as a hammer to beat out stubborn pieces.  Milwaukee and Makita both hold up great as did Dewalt XRP but I’d worry about Dewalt slides since the batteries are already loose.  I do miss the weight of the XRP packs when somethings really stuck.

Since the Makita batteries seem to be indestructible when connected to a tool I prefer the smaller form factor over rubber overmold.

My 2731 came in today, the brochure w M12 and M18 info on it lists the M18 XC6.0. It’s clearly bigger than the 5.0. I think we already knew this, but in case we didn’t, this confirms that the Red Team is among those going to larger cells for their 6.0, like Dewalt.

Can you post a picture of the brochure?

You bet, is there a pic size limit? Mine are around 1.5-2mb and it keeps telling me the uploads failed.

Staring at the brochure the differences are blurring and I can’t tell if the size difference is in my head or not haha.

I thought the 6.0’s were going to be same size as the 5.0 xc size? What I’d like them to make is a 3.0 slim line. It’s always nice to have a lighter battery for lighter tools or working overhead. They did this with the new m12 3.0’s so maybe they’ll do the same with a 3.0 m18 slim pack…

BremonMember since Dec 2014

I’m not sure if that’s the case now Jerry, though I initially assumed it was. I think other brands 6.0!18v packs being less optimal than 5.0 under heavy draw has lead to some wile e coyote “back to the drawing board” situations. I think the M12 3.0 and 6.0 are hitting the market first thanks to using the same size cells; the demand on them is generally less strenuous. I could certainly be wrong though.

Yeah, that would be perfect. I’m all for more power in smaller packages

I’m waiting on the m12 6ah battery to buy for my circ saw, they will be available before fall I have been told

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Yeah I keep checking “buy online” religiously on their site. “No vendor available” lol. Should be very soon based on the “new” designation rather than “coming soon”. I’ll likely swap out my packs for the same total AH and keep the 2.0s in heavier rotation at work (they currently pull triple duty between home, work, and my truck. It would be nice to simplify things a bit lol).

As much as it pains me to do so, I need to retract my previous statement. The only thing confirmed is my own foolishness lol. My eyes were clearly playing tricks and seeing what I would have preferred to see. 6.0 are listed on the Milwaukee site now and after running a tape just now the measurements are identical, meaning same old 18650s. Sorry for building hype and false hopes TIA crew.

Also, the 1.6 lbs it weighs is equal to what I just weighed a 5.0 as being. Interesting that the 9.0 is apparently .8lbs heavier; roughly 13 oz.

13oz isn’t that bad for being about twice the battery of a 5amp pack though. It’s bigger and heavier for sure but many of the big tools it’s designed for that won’t be that noticeable, especially the miter. BTW when the hell is Milwaukee gonna shut up and take my money for the miter?!?!

BremonMember since Dec 2014

That’s true jerry, and yeah, they have a number of things they need to stop dragging ass on so they can take my money haha. Not sure if the miter is one of them anymore though

Sure, it would have been better for Milwaukee to have released the miter months ago and not let Dewalt steal their thunder. Still I don’t have a need for a 12″ saw and the 10″ suits me just fine. That and you can get the miter/9amp battery/quick charger for $650 makes it a decent value in my book when the battery alone is $200…

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Yeah, that’s very true, I’ll wait and see where pricing falls. That the FlexVolt 790 is priced so similarly to the 780 is a big plus for it for me.
