I be like I can keep using all my batteries on the new m18 saw and use the new 9Ah on all my old tools too without having to invest in a new platform! ?

Also I think that photo is the old 8.5″ miter sold in the EU and never sold here in the US, not the new fuel one.

😆 dewalt fans finally getting a Christmas after years of being left outside the orphanage with no porridge.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Yeah the new miters look really nice from Dewalt but I still just want the new M18fuel one. It’s fine for what I want and Milwaukee stole the best idea from Dewalt anyway, the shadow line guide ?

rocket1420Member since Jan 2016

Talk to me when you have a full line of brushless impact wrenches, copper tubing cutter, pvc cutter, polishers, more than three lights, a charger that charges more than two batteries, a full range of rotary hammers, ratchets, magnetic drill press, planer, metal shears, 7 1/4″ circular saw, bandsaw, anything else I’m missing?

I’m not certain what to think about Dewalt’s new offerings. I guess I was expecting something more amazing. Definitely not enough to turn my back on Milwaukee. Oh, and your little Milwaukee vs. Dewalt meme is kinda lame. The Milwaukee guy looks like a hard, 50 hour-a-week working, while the Dewalt guy looks like he’ll stop what he’s doing to moisturize.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Well Milwaukee does the xxx# of cuts in 2×4’s thing in their shows too but that’s more applicable to a chop saw workload than a miter saw I would guess. I don’t work in construction, just a DIY, but do people use miter saws constantly cut after cut non-stop? I mean it seems like more of a precision tool where you cut measure and check again and then cut again after some time. The important things seem to be capacity, you need a saw that can actually cut wood/trim as big as you need and power to cut the stock you want to use. 200+ pine 2×4’s is nice and all but that would be like cutting  2×4’s three times a minute for two straight hours plus.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Also according to toolguyd:

With a High Demand 9.0Ah battery pack, this saw can make up to 400 cuts in 3-1/2″ baseboard trim, 300 cuts through 2x4s, or 150 cuts in 2×12 lumber.

…. So the cute photo of the massive Dewalt miter showing 244 cuts in 2×4’s isn’t all that impressive, about 20% less. Also Dewalts site lists “UP TO 289 CUTS PER CHARGE IN 3-1/4″ BASE**” …. The new m18 fuel does 400 cuts! How can Dewalt, King of miters, come out with a new line of 60v-120v battery powered saws that do less work than an 18v Milwaukee ? ? Seriously though the big disadvantage of their flex voltage packs is you double the voltage you half the amp hours; you triple the voltage and you cut the amp hours by two thirds. It’s just physics…

Get em Jerry lol very good points there, the fuel has a 10″ blade?

Also Milwaukee’s miter articulation must be pretty decent for a 10″ according to toolguyd:

There’s no compromise for going cordless on this saw. Unlike many cordless miter saws, this saw features a full 10″ blade spinning at 4000 RPM, no doubt thanks to its brushless motor. It can cut up to 6″ baseboard trim against the fence, and up to a 2×12 dimensional lumber flat against the table. All while weighing just 45 lbs, or 47 lbs with the 9.0Ah pack.

According to Dewalts info on their new 12″ cordless:

Ultimate power flexibility providing the convenience of cordless with the performance of corded

A powerful 120V brushless motor provides long runtime compared to brushed motors

Integrated adjustment-free Cutline™ Blade Positioning System for accuracy and visibility

High visibility bevel scale makes bevel angle adjustments accurate and easy

Tall sliding fences support crown molding up to 7-1/2″ nested and base molding up to 6-3/4″ vertically against the fence.

The 10″ Milwaukee can cut almost as deep base against the fence as the Dewalt; 6″ to 6-3/4″. So also with some decent cuts per pack performance the m18 fuel miter looks pretty competitive all around. That being said I don’t deny Dewalts miters are anything but excellent either. Dewalts doesn’t make too many crappy saws…

It’s all in good fun comparing back and forth with Dewalt fans but I wish Milwaukee would just SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY for the fuel miter!!!! I’ve been holding off on a badly needed miter for a year hoping they’d come out with one. The fact that it looks like a really nice 10″ and they didn’t just go through the motions and it has a great shadow line guide and an available 9Ah battery bundle is making me impatient!!!

Milwaukee will take your money Jerry. Of course it’ll break and you’ll need that EXCELLENT WARRANTY!!!!!!!!

Thinktank: “Let’s glue three 20v batteries together!”

CEO: “Can we do that?”

CEO: “Do it”

Engineer: “So we’re not getting enough cuts out of the miter saw, Milwaukee still beats us”

Thinktank: “Can we plug it in?”

Eh but who am I kidding, I want this to work for them and the consumer, it’s innovative, but I’m sure there’s going to be a few things to work through. Besides, they’re probably already working on the next generation of this tool or that, and many more to come. I’m sure what we’ve seen so far isn’t all of it.

I was just teasing from my original meme. Milwaukee is a great brand. DeWalt won my loyalty first and continues to earn it. I have a few Milwaukee and a few Bosch tools. If I had to do it over, I would have invested into all three from the beginning, then I could pick any tool I wanted or needed. Unfortunately, I am so invested into yellow, I’m financially stuck. And of course, I love the black and yellow theme in my garage. [emoji6]

So the worlds first was actually the most hyped product launch that wasn’t even as good as their competitors?

krutonMember since Jun 2015

I think regardless of what team you are on its healthy to have the competition. It’s always good to have innovation regardless if it’s your brand or not, keeps things from getting stale. I’ll admit that being into Bosch, Makita and Metabo cordless it has been as an “outsider” to watch the banter. Now keep those jabs coming fellas, maybe one day you’ll be lucky enough to get some real Bosch tools! [emoji6] [emoji16] [emoji90] [emoji533]

They wanted to make the world’s first 12″ miter but knew even with 2xbattery packs the runtime might still be a little underwhelming so they knew from the beginning it was going to be a plugin hybrid. I think the majority of these saws might never run off battery, or at most occasionally on battery. The only reason Dewalt bent over backwards to get to 60v and maintain compatibility with the 20’s was so the motor could be run off the mains as well with a 2x60v setup reaching 120v…

Honestly, that’s why I’m a little annoyed by this release. I truly find it underwhelming and wish Dewalt did a better job at expanding their lineup. Right now, Milwaukee has a HUGE lineup that has no real competition in a lot of categories, which means they set the prices and that means they don’t have to be aggressive on sales in those categories.

John GlasseyMember since Jan 2014

Right on Kruton, and maybe after that some Metabo tools will come your way. Team Forrest Green??

John GlasseyMember since Jan 2014

You don’t think so Bmack? That Milwaulkee has no sales. I think they have sales, but they start out over priced to begin with. For like you said, they have little competition and they set their prices. Which are high. Which leaves us looking for ever penny to save on deals. Thank you deal hunters, you know who you are! For giving us those best buys.

I will adopt any tool brand that is a good deal or has something I want. I have a little Ryobi, Ridgid, A lot of Milwaukee, Bosch, Dewalt. PorterCable. One Makita tool their cordless Random Orbit Sander but no Makita Batteries or tools yet. Also a Black and Decker Rotary polisher I never use. I also have a Made in the USA Portercable random orbital sander I still keep because its one of the few tools I have that is made here in the USA.

Heck 6 years ago when I wanted to upgrade from Ryobi I first went to Ridgid but realized they hardly had any tools to expand to back then, but I really liked the LSA especially on batteries. Then I bought a 5 piece Dewalt 20v Max kit that was actually thanks to a TIA video back then, but the lack or additional tools and the launch of Milwaukee Fuel moved me over to be majority team Red for 18v tools. I did have some Dewalt 12v tools also but quickly sold them when I realized M12 had so many more tools. Just saying I might be a Dewalt guy if they had the lineup they have now compared to when I first bought into the 20v max product line.

I think Milwaukee has the most aggressive promos though with free barriers, not always there too tools but HD has a sale going on but 1 save 20, but 2 save … Something and so forth. They always have something going on

I never said that Milwaukee has no sales. What I said was that they don’t have big sales/promos in the categories that they don’t have competition. Look at their LED pricing and compare the lighting sales versus their promotions on drills/impacts/etc.

They have fantastic promotions on the major categories, mostly for batteries which is really what we all want because the cost of batteries is soo high. It’s also nice when they do a free tool with kit purchase…but again, look at the categories those kits and tools are in.

Price high, see who buys, then have a sale.  Typically you’re paying around $50-100 rent for that first few months of having the latest model.  Of course in some specialty cases a sale won’t push more product so they don’t bother.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Its always drills and impact drivers that have door buster pricing. I got my fuel sawzall and 6.5 circ ass toss ins on a hammer drill and impact driver. Everyone uses those tools, so they’re the gateway drugs to get you into a system. As Jeff mentioned, the more specialized a tool, the less promotion it gets. Impact wrenches, circ saws, sawzall, grinder etc. go on decent sales. Hole hawgs, bandsaw, pex tools, etc. not so much. And as mentioned frequently, their lighting products must print money for them. My M12 stick light was free with my fuel hackzall but I think I paid $90 Canadian or so for the M18 lantern and prices only seem to go up from there.

Their market research has shown them over the years what sells products. Including a new flashlight does not sell as well as including a battery carger kit, or a couple batteries, or a free tool. If a free flashlight was all it took to get people to buy in quantity then they would include a flashlight valued at $79 vs a free tool valued at $229.

That was only on the large light if I recall correctly. I really haven’t seen more than a couple sales on lights, the biggest being the light you just bought for $20 off.

If Dewalt entered the market with a bunch of lighting and more specialized tools, I bet that we’d see more sales from Milwaukee in those categories…from both companies. Now I know we won’t see the ridiculous sales like the old model drills/impact drivers but I think we’d see more variety in the free battery promos or the buy this and get that promos.

Competition is great for consumers, whether it be in pricing or innovation. It’s also great from the standpoint of the companies involved, some pretty genius ideas have come out though competition, you see this a lot in smartphones.

As soon as you need batteries you pay through the nose. Thats one of the big reasons why I went with dewalt originally. That and a three speed transmission on the drill.

They had a promo a few months back with a fuel kit and you could pick a free accessory, they had the LED lantern as an option and it wasn’t that old at the time.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

Better promo is getting the 2731 free. I got my 2730 tossed in. Couldn’t be happier and wish I could find more deals like that. I might have a more colourful lineup.
