$99 for tool only. They have a kit too with a 1.5 battery too and decent photos to get a better idea of it. Looks nice but not in stock yet.

update: Here is the retail packaging and what one looks like with big battery on it.

Photo from the original forumPhoto from the original forum

It actually looks better than I thought with the bigger pack and it stands up more stably and lights up the room like a lantern shooting off the ceiling. The sliding mechanism for the beam is super slick and it does have a nice quality feel overall.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Yeah the new slim 3.0’s are prob great on that flashlight but I already have a bunch of 2.0’s and it should work well, if not look a little funky, with the pair of big 3.0’s i have so I wouldn’t be buying a kit anyway.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

i would just get bare tool but “keep your dick in a vice” I’m sure they’ll be some battery promos after they our for a little while

I’d imagine they sell a lot more of these types of items as tool-only. I’m surprised they even offer it in kit form.

Id like to pick up one of these to carry in the truck with me

Also the 3.0 is now the top dog slim pack, they probably want to cash in on its newness and sell them a la carte. When they introduce new batteries it seems to take some time for them to show up in kits. It hasn’t been too long since they even started adding 5.0’s to the M18 kits. Also the 3.0’s might not even be ready to roll yet…

The fact that you can buy 1.5 and 2.0 at HD is very odd. Why not just discontinue the old models when a new one comes out? There are way too many battery options for Milwaukee. Nothing worse than opening my drawer and seeing 1.5’s that will never see the light of day, because they still put em in kits for some odd reason.

6 sku’s for 12v and 7 sku’s for 18v.

I’ve had a couple of recent releases come with 1.5’s – thermal imager and right angle impact, at least. I leave them in the things that get used infrequently, like the imager, the temp gun.

Dewalt uses their 1.5s to cheap down their kits, when gen 2 xr came out they released a promo price on gen 1 kits, however them crappy 1.5 packs slipped in there…

They can probably produce the little guys for next to nothing now. Ad 50 bucks make it a combo and their margin on that is probably huge.

Well until the 3.0 slim is out the 2.0 is still the biggest slim pack you can get. The old 3.0 and 4.0 are the larger variety. 1.5’s for some devices is still workable but yeah Milwaukee’s a little odd with their battery tiers; they still have m18 3.0 and 4.0 packs at original pricing which doesn’t make sense to a consumer when the 5.0’s are basically the same price too. I suspect the 6.0’s will continue the tradition…

Youch! That’s Festool pricing right there! I just bought a new Maglight for my day job. Spent about $48 for the light and a 12 pack of d cells. Unfortunately it doesn’t run on my Bosch batteries but dude. This thing is insanely bright! It’ll be getting a lot of use over the weekend as I got assigned two shifts over in the Weirs over the weekend. If anybody is up, give me a shout! I might see you up there!!

Ooh – I just saw that all of the new lights are up on the website.

$399 is brutal for the new tower light, but I guess the extra 150 gets you 1000 lumens, a plug and waterproofing.  It’s probably worth it and I’ll likely pick one up, but… ouch…

Wow, these are nice but very pricey. I like my floodlight and was able to get it a little while back for $149 with a special deal that came with a free 5.0 battery. I bet they’ll offer some deals like that soon enough.

Milwaukee has spent the last 4 years buying market share. Now that they are popular, prices will keep going up as long as the market will bear it. They are cashing in on years of giving away stuff.

Honestly, I think it’s to confuse the average user or wife. If you have a 2.0 battery for $49 with a 2-pack of 1.5s (that look the same) for $69 next to it, it looks like the 2-pack is a killer deal. You have to either know what you’re looking at or do a fair bit of reading to figure out what the difference is on the two batteries. It seems like all the major companies do this with their batteries and bit sets. Milwaukee also has a 2-pack of 3Ah batteries for $99 while the 4Ah is $79 for a single.

jeffmcmillanMember since Jun 2015

The price of these lights is getting ridiculous.  It’s a few dollars each for the LEDs, LED driver, and molded plastic parts.

If you wait they still offer pretty good promo’s they were giving away a charger and a 5.0ah batter with the first generation stand light, and you got a 5.0ah battery with the plug in hybrid flood light. The prices have gone up though on Milwaukee products though. Milwaukee will have a hard time moving a 400 dollar stand light even though it has awesome features.

KnarlyCarlMember since Jan 2016

And what’s the warranty? Can you get that with a cheaper one? Something to think about…

5 years on anything on the light life time warranty if a led light element burns out. That is a pretty nice warranty on the lights. The Jobsite radios only has one year that should be bumped up in my opinion

Their led lights have always been on the high end of tool company prices for similar products. The same with tools; they never have been that cheap but they do tend to have free battery or an accessory bare tool promotion. If you buy full freight it can be a lot of money but if you play your cards right you can get some nice stuff thrown in too.

I’m just want my dang flashlight to be here so I can compare it to my 20+ other flashlights.

That’s a lot of wood for cordless illumination. I’d much rather spend 400 on some spare batteries and beer

How many cheap lights can you run in the pouring rain without killing them?  Something to think about.

You’re in luck then… you’re paying $99 for no battery at all. ? The $150 kit comes with a charger and a 1.5. You can buy two packs of bare batteries for like 60-100 I think. I have a pair of 2.0 s that came with a hacksawzall kit last year I got for free buying a fuel drill driver kit and picked up a two pack of the larger 3.0 packs last year for $79 on sale.

Not only that, but ZERO competition doesn’t help to keep the prices down either.

True but I think Milwaukee is looking at their lights as competing with other mid to high end light manufactures, not other tool companies. Traditionally lights from tool companies have been add-ons to round out combo kits so they can claim “Five Tools” when it’s really four + some crappy light. Somewhere along the way tool companies realized people liked even the crappy lights because they used the same largish power packs as the tool and solved the biggest light problem i.e. Always being sure you have a charged battery at hand. They have gotten much better from all manufacturers.  Look no further than Ryobi with their excellent dual power flood and their lantern that both cost peanuts for what you get. Milwaukee doesn’t want to compete with that.

This new black M12 light is almost a direct competitor to a Maglite rechargeable which runs about $100 retail, albeit with batteries included. The Maglite doesn’t have a charge indicator afaik and when it dies you have to put it on a cradle to charge and can’t keep using it. The M12 lets you swap a new battery pack and has significantly more lumens too. I think for what it is it isn’t too badly priced for a quality light with a good warranty, especially if you already have a mess of m12 batts…

Perhaps I am simply in the wrong thread. I realize that the thread topic is the m12 flashlight. Obviously there’s a crap ton of flashlights out there.

I was more talking about the $400 for the stand light and $300 for the 360° light, or whatever it is. I’m on my phone so I’ll go back and look later. There really is no cordless competition for those lights, at least in Home Depot or Lowe’s. I’m sure someone can find some obscure German light that works similarly, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.

When we’re talking competition, especially for the m18 lights, we’re really talking about Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, and I suppose if you want to include a couple lesser brands, you could throw in Ridgid, Ryobi, Porter-Cable, and a few other entry level brands. NONE of these companies have lights like Milwaukee does. That’s a problem. No competition = high prices. They can charge whatever they can get for them because the next company isn’t offering a competing product. Just look at how many people in here said “that’s a f***load of money but I’ll end up getting it during a promo.”

Yet when they bundle a light in a kit it’s still the crappy light.  Even though the cost to produce a crappy incandescent is almost the same as a nice LED light.

JerryNYMember since Jun 2015

Yeah I can see the new M18 lights as lacking competition but then again lots of those lights are nowhere near targeted at a consumer or even prosumer. They look purely made to milk the corporate sales. Even that wacky dual head light for lineman Dan showed on periscope was meant 100% for  sales to utilities and gonna cost $500 I bet. The whole one key for lights makes much more sense in that arena. A lot of the new lights are pretty cool but I can’t pretend I even need one or would want to spend that much on lights but I’m not even close to their target demo. I do like he new black m12 and would actually find it useful though.

Yes and no. LED’s have come WAY down in price the last decade but you still need a controller, heat sink and other things compared to a dumb old incandescent. Even if it’s just a dollar in parts more per unit that’s $1million per million units. It adds up. I was just saying I think they started realizing people and Corp buyers  actually like the lights enough to target them much further up market and develop more varieties of lights. They’ve had tool battery based lights for decades now but they are pushing stick lights, spots, lanterns, work lights etc. more and more in recent years.

BremonMember since Dec 2014

I do like that they have an incredibly diverse lineup of lighting products. The price points are high, and reaching higher, but like you said Jerry: these applications are going beyond your basic trades and into more specialized areas.

The bucket truck light looks great. Do I have a use for it? No.

The new stand light having corded power and a charger is great; is it a rapid charger? I haven’t read that, but otherwise standard chargers are $10-20 new on Kijiji, so you pay a premium for convenience. They pulled an Apple and were smart enough to keep AC for the premium model though, which sucks for guys with the original stand light.

New aluminum flashlight seems like a good all-around unit. The m18 searchlight is probably my favourite of the bunch but it’s likely too big for what I would use it for.

The pumpkin is also really cool but for my purposes the stand light suits me better. The m12 “Rover” (ie “what the guys did to a Bluetooth speaker in the lunch room) was the star of the show for me. I’ve downsized in lights down to just the M12 stick and M18 lantern. The aluminum and rover are most likely candidates for me at this point I think.

The Rover is like an improved version of the octogon light that jump started their lighting innovation. Many of these lights having spot/flood/hybrid mode makes me question if there is still a place for last year’s M12 spotlight in the lineup. I was going to buy one for my dad but now I’m not sure.

I don’t care if it’s a slow charger.  I like the idea of slapping an old 1.5Ah battery on while using it corded so you don’t end up in the dark every time someone trips over an extension cord or overloads a generator.
