Thinking of starting to invest in the M12 lineup.

I don’t know why but I am starting to consider investing in the M12 lineup. From what you guys say it seems to be a very good lineup. As you probably know, I am a DeWalt guy but in all honesty I think the DeWalt 12V Max line is lacking big time to Milwaukee’s. I was looking to start with this kit. What is the benefit to using 12V versus 18V/20V?

Thanks guys, I think the Milwaukee bug bit me last night!

12 volt tools are generally smaller and lighter. The M12 line also gets you things you won’t find anywhere else, like the copper tubing cutter and pvc shear.

Dano123Member since Feb 2016

I love my M12 tools. I have the fuel hammer drill, impact and circ saw plus the regular hackzall and righr angle drill. I had the regular drill and impact as well and gave them to my dad. Excellent tools.

That’s a nice kit. I have both of those and are great for small jobs. I would go for the kit it’s a great price. Also check out Milwaukee CPO.

I love my M12 tools, you won’t be disappointed.

im looking to pick up the bandsaw, jig saw, and Palm nailer next

KnarlyCarlMember since Jan 2016

I pull out my 12v tools out much more often than the 18, but I’m using a lot of their tools they made for my trade that you can’t find elsewhere as mentioned above, copper tubing cutter, pvc shears, pex tool, polisher/sander(love that little thing)

I grab my 12v impact much more often than my 18 because i’m usually putting in smaller screws, or taking panels off, or screws that require a lot of turning to remove or install (shower valve trim, for ex)

What you do a lot will dictate your needs. Running a lot of deck screws or drywall screws? Go 18v, but if you’re doing sheet metal or thinner material with shorter fasteners, go for the 12v line.

The 12v from Milwaukee is a solid line up, I’ve not had any problems with any of my m12 tools. One battery did go bad almost right out of the package, so that go replaced no problem.

I am a DeWalt guy too, but due to the lack of available 12 volts I invested in the M12 line. DeWalt for the 20 volt and Milwaulkee for the 12 volt

Yup that is my exact plan. I already have the Dewalt 20v tools. So I want to get the 12 volt stuff for smaller around the house stuff. Just ordered that kit from HD for $99 to get me started.

Great line up, fairly compact, right now the m12 rotary is my most used tool, great power to it! so many great tools in the line up!

I’m also on the Dewalt 20v max line but went with m12 for a couple of tools that Dewalt did not live up to or did not have in their 12v line. Tools I love in the m12 line is the fuel rotary hammer drill, 3/8 ratchet, rotary tool, led lantern and fuel 1/2 impact wrench.

Well I’ve got two Milwaukee tools and though I’m not a huge fan, Milwaukee has a great all encompassing 12v lineup. I have some Bosch 12v tools which I am a huge fan of but Milwaukee has the niche, actually all niches covered with their M12 lineup. I’d say Bosch has the second largest 12v lineup but Milwaukee is certainly much larger of a lineup.

Oh man that must have been the pain write up you have ever done Chris. I could see the tears from here lol.

Sounds like me, I had dewalt 20v, started on M12, but once you get a taste of the power for fuel, you’ll be buying into the m18 line!

I can not wait till I get mine come on Milwaukee ship them already.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Well, Dewalt doesn’t make one. Yet. So…..Milwaukee will suffice for now. 😉

sparky603Member since Jun 2014

Have the drain snake kit coming my way. Well, once they’re ready to ship.

MikeInCtownMember since Mar 2016

I bought into the Milwaukee 18V lineup with their Onekey system (have the drill, impact driver, and compact impact wrench) then I got the Fuel circular saw. I had planned on staying with the 18v as I didn’t want multiple voltage batteries to service and purchase. A deal over at CPO changed that and I am now into the 12v system. As mentioned they have stuff that isn’t available in their 18v lineup. I bought the fuel hackzall and plan on eventually getting the 1/4″ and 3/8″ ratchets for tighter spots where my impact driver can’t fit. I may also wind up with the drain snake at work and possibly one or two other tools. I was hoping that they would come put with a brushless multi tool in 18v, but now that I have the 12v and my uses are limited, I’l just grab the model that costs less. So I guess in a way the 12v and second voltage is a benefit for me.

Timely thread.  I’ve got some of the 12v Bosch tools but recently helped my brother plumb his house he is building and he picked up the Milwaukee 12v propex kit to do the job.  Very small learning curve, took about 2 hours to do some test runs and then complete the first run, and then about another 4 hours to finish everything.  Once we were done and the house was plumbed he gave it to me for my labor cost. I’m building in the next year or two and thinking about between now and then adding some of the other Milwaukee 12v offerings, and maybe selling my Bosch 12v tools to help with the cost.  See a lot more 12v Milwaukee tools available than Bosch and they seem committed to the 12v platform.  Kinda surprised Dewalt, Bosch and Makita have let Milwaukee have free reign and go pretty much uncontested in wide range of tools they offer in the 12v market. The other three all have solid products, just not a lot of variety.  Milwaukee has just about everything they offer in 18v available on the 12v platform.

I will say that several times during his build I have started with a 18v drill or impact, but after about 20 minutes I switched to the 12v bosch series and yes, performance was slightly less, but the weight and comfort was way better and made up for the extra few minutes the job took. I find myself reaching for the 12v stuff more and more just because of that.

I commented a day or two back about just getting into the 12v lineup.

I used my new Fuel Hackzall yesterday for the first time. Had to cut up a tree which had rotten at the base and fallen over. The thickest part was 6″ around. (tree was maybe 10-12″ high and about the same diameter with branches) Used the Diablo 9″ pruning blade. In less than a half battery charge I cut the entire (small) tree into 2′ long sections which completely fit in a wheelbarrow for removal. The tool got hot as hell but never stopped.

This morning I put a new Milwaukee torch blade in it and started cutting up steel. Like a hot knife through butter. I’m very impressed with this tool, and with the 12V fuel in general so far. The 4.0xc batteries last quite a while too.

HiltiWpgMember since Sep 2015

I love my Hilti 12V tools but the bottom line is there’s not enough selection to completely change over. I have a full set of M12 fuel tools and I love the selection and availability. There’s no question Milwaukee has the strongest 12 V line up, the tools are quite good for the dollar.

Do I need to say more? Took advantage of the $99 HD deal to get me started in the M12 lineup. Many more tools to come!!!

I thought I came up with a task that would finally bind up the M12 Fuel Hackzall, a 3.5″ steel pole for a basketball hoop…I was wrong:

[External image (i.imgur.com), not copied]

I did cut the majority of it up with the M18 Sawzall but it was for speed because it’s Summer in Florida. I swear, the brushed Sawzall was only about 30% faster at most. It was insane, also, this cut and I cut up the framework for the backboard and cut the hoop…No bars off of the 4.0Ah battery.
