Anyone have the M12 or M18 jigsaw? If so how do you like it?

Looking at possibly getting one tomorrow for a small project that I don’t want to drag out 150ft of cord for.

dwainMember since Aug 2013

oztooltalk really like the M12 jigsaw (review yet to be posted). Haven’t tried the M18.

The m12 is a very underrated tool, I love that thing! Great tool, very basic though, no orbital settings. But for a basic tool it cuts nice and fits great in the hand.

I have the m18  and think it works great!!!

I love my m18 jigsaw, fantastic tool. The only two minor complaints are that it’s missing a LED and when you adjust the shoe for a bevel cut you have to remove the anti-splinter piece. The anti-splinter piece can only be used at 0 and 15 degrees.

Thanks guys!

Good vid Jimbo!

I think I’m gonna grab a M18 tomorrow

I have the M18. Great tool overall. Only 2 gripes: (1) no LED (2) the clear plastic guard actually makes it hard to see so I took it off.

Was using a friend’s M18 earlier today and it’s on the nicer end of jigsaws I’ve used.  The last jigsaw I’d used before that was a Dewalt cordless so when I pulled the trigger the first time I thought the saw was broken there was so little vibration.

What cordless battery platforms do you already have?

sadfkjnbbMember since May 2016

I’m on the M12 and M18 platforms right now. I just got a new M12 fuel combo drill and impact so I’m committed there but my M18 tools are pretty beat up and getting to the point they need to be replaced so I’m trying to decide if I want to switch to Makita or Bosch before I take the plunge on another tool. I thought I had my mind made up on the M18 but after watching Jimbos video I dunno. Or maybe getting a Makita. Or a Bosch… Dammit

I’ve never had good luck with DeWalt, and all the yellow hurts my eyes.

When you see the price of a Makita jigsaw, you might decide to stick with Milwaukee.  The brushless one is around $300 bare tool and the barrel grip is even more plus you have to get it internationally.  Bosch is a bit less expensive but still much more than the M18 or M12

Bosch invented the jigsaw and are known for great jigsaws , I have the bosch 18v and it’s the best cordless I’ve used it just feels right unlike the dewalt which is like a brick !

I still only have the corded Bosch, but I think the jigsaw is about the only cordless tool that I still really would use a lot. The rest are just cordless tools that would be nice to have but not a deal breaker. Bosch does make some great jigsaws. I think the jigsaw I had before I got the Bosch was an old Black & Decker. Talk about night and day difference!

I started with a black n decker also and have a corded Bosch now that I’ve had for some time. Don’t know yet if I want a cordless one of any brand. I don’t use it too often but when I do it’s great to have.

Well since I needed it today I bit the bullet and got an M18 kit. The special for May is buy a kit and get additional 4.0 battery so that made it a litttle less painful when swiping the old CC. I was tempted by the M12 but I just had reservations about cutting through thicker material with it so I figured go big or go home.

Once I got it out first thing i noticed it its got some heft to it but not to the point that its uncomfortable or awkward to use but its not light by any means. Seems just about right to be able to let the saw do the cutting instead of having to push it through (that was one of the concerns I had with the M12). Once I fired her up I was pretty surprised how well it worked and how much power it has. The “splinter guard” and clear plastic cover are pretty worthless if you ask me, they just got plugged up and I couldn’t get a clear line of sight to the blade so off they went. I had bought the Ridgid Fuego compact jig saw (r31011) a couple months ago to replace an old black and decker I had suffered with for years and comparing the Ridgid to this thing the Milwaukee is hands down my choice. I’m overall pretty happy with it. The only con I can think of (after only using it for part of a day which isn’t much to go one) is I don’t like the blow mold case, its WAY to frikin big for what its carrying. I know its for carrying the extra battery and charger from site to site but I don’t need it for that. And the splinter guard and plastic cover for the blade, hinders more than helps in my experience.

Well for the sake of correctness Bosch bought out the company who invented, produced and marketed jigsaws. SwItserland company  scintilla.

Bosch did not invent the jigsaw themselves

Craigh9916Member since Oct 2015

Yeah that’s true and then after that bosch added the pendulum action and then the tool free blade change

How much is the Carvex? The Bosch is usually 300

Jimbo, $365 with free shipping for either the barrel grip or the top handle and a Systainer 2. The big thing is the accessory kit. Crazy accessories.

KnarlyCarlMember since Jan 2016

That’s impressive. That’s usually one of those cases where if you have to ask what the price is, you probably can’t afford it haha

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Yeah, I balked at the Carvex price till I tried it. The. I saw the Mafell. Wow. Pretty neat tool but $700ish is a lot of cash! Even for a Festool guy!!!!!

John GlasseyMember since Jan 2014

Your the best Chrisk. I love you man!  If I ever needed THE most expensive tool made, I can count on you to know about it. The mafell is awesome. Oh an up date on my search for the Bosch ROS65VCL 5″ / 6 ” VS Rear-Handle Random Orbit Sander with Vibration Control & L-Boxx3, JCCayer in Canada say they can get it for me. But at a premium. Lol. We will see if they can.

But really the Carvex isn’t that much more than the Bosch

Do it John! Absolutely awesome machine! Bosch really did good with this one! If the sheet sander comes down it’ll be next up but as it stands I’ll probably get the LS130 from Festool. The Bosch hasn’t come down yet 🙁

It’s actually why I gave the price. It’s a phenomenal machine with the brushless motor for a decent (sure it’s expensive but it ain’t made in China) price and includes a premium case to boot plus couple with the DC, the dust shield and the blade insert there is no chip out and the dust is t really an issue.

Seems like the accessories are about the same what you get with the Bosch but the systainers seem much nicer than the Lboxx

I’ve got many Systainers and maybe a half dozen k boxxes Jimbo. It is truly preference. I love the Systainers, super easy and I’ve picked up a bunch of specialized ones with drawer etc and spent some time moving my Domino DF500 into one of the new sysports and loaded the pull out drawer with three common types of tenons that I use. The Bosch ones have a larger footprint but I think it’s easier to stack the Systainers as there is one moving part to secure the, whereas there are two on the l boxxes. The l boxxes are really well constructed and I like them too. It’s really what you are looking for. If you want storage that is neat, professional and keeps things well organized with multiple ways of accessing tools, the Systainer or l boxx system will serve quite well. If you want waterproof super durable boxes the Dewalt tough system is the way to go. A cheaper alternative is the Dewalt tstack system. I’ve got one of each of the latter and they are both great boxes. The problem, like all cordless tool systems is, you really can’t mix and match across the brands. So when you pick one it is easier to stay. Also for prices, the Tanos Systainers and Sortimo l boxxes are comparable in price in most cases, Systainer beats them, in some areas whereas l boxx beats Systainer in some areas. Dan isn’t a fan of the l boxxes but I like mine. I just have more Festools than Bosch’ and am well entrenched in the Systainer line and truthfully I do like them better. I’ll try to post some pics of the storage units I have.

Also, for the Carvex accessory kit you get. The base Carvex doesn’t come with a lot but the base set is pretty amazing. It has a circle cutting base that is amazing and an articulating base that allows the machine to bisect any angle while maintains contact with both sides. Multi material bases etc. pretty neat kit.

JimboS1iceMember since Sep 2015

Your really starting to sell me on the Carvex! I’m not a fan of the Lboxx the plastic just seems thin and cheap to me. I like the handle of it but it doesn’t seem like it would hold up to some heavier banging. I agree the tough system is awesome those things are rugged as hell.

I have the m12 Jigsaw, great little saw for trim, flooring, laminate. For hard woods I would go m18 /corded. I have used the carvex and an older Bosch. Both great jigsaws.
