Good engineered stuff, quality tools but a hefty price tag too.

I want a couple of grinders, bad…

John GlasseyMember since Jan 2014

Typical German engineering. Most of its tools are made in Germany some in China. Limited lineup and limited availability. But overall quality tools.

Im gonna get flak for this but….

Great tools on thesame standard as Bosch/Makita/dewalt.

Keep in mind im from Europe. Metabo is nothing special here. You Find metabo in alot of stores ( although in belgium it doesnt dell that good. It does in Holland tho ) .

Its also in completly thesame price category  als dewalt/Bosch/Makita here.

Here in belgium the metabo after sales service sucks 😀

kornomaniacMember since Oct 2014

They do make the best grinders !

dwainMember since Aug 2013

i think their cordless drills and grinders are best-in-class. their compact impact wrench probably is too. everybody loves their grinders (as mentioned).

My (fairly uneducated) opinion is that they are a small step above the usual suspects (bosch, dewalt, makita, milwaukee etc) in terms of quality. Not necessarily in every tool though…

dmz2084Member since Dec 2014

Hey @dwain have you heard about their new 18v brushless compact and full size drills?

ps when will the makita bl recip video drop?

kornomaniacMember since Oct 2014

They have a new brushless top model. 2050 rpms. 120 hard torque. 60 soft torque.    2.4 kilo.

Havent held it yet though 🙂

krutonMember since Jun 2015

I’ve own Makita, Bosch and Metabo and have used Milwaukee and Dewalt. I love the Metabo! From what I’ve seen they’re quality is better than the brands above and the price is totally worth it. I can’t speak for their longevity at this point but I would have to imagine it will be pretty good as well

Metabo don’t count the weight of the removable quick chuck do they as they list the old brushless as 2kg?

Have you seen the compact model 2100/600 rpm 60/34 nm hard/soft torque 1.5kg.

Metabo has some great stuff. Really want their brushless cordless grinder.

John GlasseyMember since Jan 2014

Metabo is on my list of next tool purchase. I too would want to get their grinder and try out their impact wrench.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I’m really interested in the line myself but don’t see spending any cash On them yet.  I really like the compact 18v tools they have and their batteries are supposed to be the bees knees but that’ll mean selling off my Bosch 18v tools and I just like them too much and introducing another battery line and having another drill is just not my speed yet. The sanders though, like routers, you can never have too many!

Which impact are you looking at, the LTX 400 or 600?

In a couple years you are going to need an extra drill around when the kid decides they need a drill too while you are working! Might as well grab the Metabo now! [emoji6]

Kruton, I was looking at the SSW18LTX600BL just the price is stoping me from getting right now. I was hoping to get it as a bare tool but I would like to get the grinder kit with the batteries. Everyone that owns this impact, raves about it.

That’s the one I’m thinking about too. I like the size of the 400, but the 600 looks nice. I may have to sweet talk the wife and this can be my early birthday present!

Yes I agree the 400 is nice, but the 600 will compete me! Lol. Now I need the WP 18 LTX 125 QUICK (613072500) CORDLESS ANGLE grinder first. Oh ya the funds too haha.

Same here Kruton. Nary a Metabo to be seen in NH

Metabo is a great brand. They are hard to find in stores but they are very good tools. I love the pulse action on the drill they have and there impact wrench is in my opinion the best on the market.

I stil have a few metabo table saws and compressors in the store ill make you Guys a good price on ( for belgium standards 😀 ) if you are ever in belgium 😛

From what I gather, Metabo was only in a handful of stores, and because of the price, didn’t sell well. Subsequently Lowe’s decided to drop the line. Thanks Lowe’s [emoji1]

Metabo has a lineup almost the size of Makita but with metalworking instead of woodworking tools.  If you want something like a cordless flat head grinder or cordless bandfile they’re the only option.

Metabo never even made it around here, they didn’t even give it a fighting chance.

I wonder if they have certain stores that represent their test market and if things don’t do well there they never hit the shelves in the other stores. It’s too bad too, I think they would have eventually taken off.

I still don’t think metabo should have ever attempted Lowes. Lowe’s is a very homeowner oriented hardware  store and Metabo is not  a homeowner tool. That and they wouldn’t have even stocked any of the tools that I would want. I like it how it is locally. They sell Metabo at  places where guys that would use metabo would actually regularly go, aka the industrial/welding supply store. Most major industrial companies purchasing agents won’t ever go near a Lowes. They’re going to go into the industrial suppliers and set up an account and get themselves setup with regular  deliveries and then when they need a tool they make one call and the next delivery has a dozen metabo grinders.

Lowes has been known to do some goofy stuff… I bought a a fair amount of Knipex when they were closing it out. Seriously, expensive German pliers at Lowes?

Wish I had been around when they clearanced those.

I wish I would have bought more…

I know that Mafell power drills are nothing more than rebranded Metabo’s, so my guess is that Metabo should be rather good, Mafell not willing to take any risk on that.

Having said that, I wouldn’t go for a Metabo power tool except for their grinding tools…they have Uh-Mazing grinding tools lineup.

D WMember since Jun 2016

I’ve just bought into 18v Metabo. I don’t have much at the moment but so far a W18 LTX 125 brushed angle grinder, AG 18 compact blower, one 6.2ah LiHD battery and the ASC 30-36 charger.

The grinder is top quality and also made in Germany with a quick nut and tool-less guard adjustment. Very, VERY smooth running and really nice to use. One review that I came across online rated this brushed grinder better in power and runtime than the Milwaukee brushless. With the 6.2ah LiHD battery I get about 10 minutes of non-stop grinding and cutting and it feels about the same as a 600-700W corded. I imagine their new brushless version would improve on this.

The blower is very similar to the Milwaukee, Dewalt and Makita offerings. It is made in China. The build quality is noticeably lower than that of the made in Germany grinder. There is no lock-on trigger feature and no inflator attachments, which are negative points imo. However, the run-time with the LiHD is great!

The charger will fully charge the 6.2ah LiHD battery from almost empty (one bar remaining and flashing) to full in 90 minutes. Quite slow compared to Makita and Hitachi chargers. I believe they have an Ultra charger which cuts this time down to 45 minutes (not available in Australia yet).

I don’t have any of the normal 5.2ah batteries but the claims from Metabo are that their tools will have more power when using LiHD (even the older tools). I am hoping this will translate into their 18v reciprocating saw when I expand over the next few weeks. I will also purchase the SSW 18 LTX 200 brushed impact wrench (3 speed 210nm).
