I need a impact wrench for my garage and wanna no the best one out. I have Dewalt, makita, and Milwaukee batterys so which one out of them are the best

eddie1976Member since May 2016

Not sure about 18v, but based on my research the DeWalts DCF899 is pretty well rated. I will be getting this one, hoping for a good Father’s day sale.

I thought Makita had a good one too. I had seen it at $500, but just now found it at about the same price as Dewalt.

which ever of the 3 you pick are all pretty much the same in power and torque, I have the Milwaukee which is a beast but only 2 speed, the dewalt is 3 speed.  but in reality, they all boast around 700 lbs of torque.

JspeedMember since Apr 2016

Ok cool. Since they pretty much do the same I’m gonna grave the Milwaukee. I see the bare tool is 219$ at Home Depot and I have shit loads of batterys so that sounds like the winner. I really like the way the makita one looks.

NicholasShetleyMember since Nov 2013

I think the makita makes around 40 or 50 ft lbs more but to me it looks a lot bigger. I have the Milwaukee and i haven’t found its limit yet. I think that they will all work fine though.

All the new stuff is 18v. 20v max = 18v same shiznit different market scam.

Honesly id be going for whichever of those I could find the best deal on,all 3 are pretty darn similar,I myself would be more partial to the Dewalt or Makita.

Why more towards Dewalt or makita. You don’t have Milwaukee tools ?

StercorariusMember since Dec 2015

Please, we all know the only correct answer here. You have all three battery platforms so get all of them. Trust me, I’m a professional and it’s the only way to do it. Keep in mind that you also have to get the fuel M12 3/8 impact, fuel compact 1/2 M18, and M12 right angle imoact.

Nope no Milwaukee at the moment,I like to be different. For 20v line I have Porter Cable(Dewalt) and for 12v I have Bosch.

I try not to support China manufacturing because it takes away my work 🙂

I have Dewalt,Bosch, and Porter Cable corded tools also.Have used Makita grinders for alot of years in shops.

Im just a tool junkie/DIY’er/Tinkerer guy. Machinist/Fabricator by trade. Nowadays I mostly work from home CNC programming and such.

The 2663 is the brushed model where the 2763 is brushless. It does have mor fastening and breakaway torque. Dewalt also has 2 models the 889 and 899, the 889 is their brushed model.

Jimbo is correct. I have owned the 2663 and used the 2763 fairly extensively. I loved my 2663 and you will too if you get it. As far as torque needs go it should be able to handle anything in the average homeowners garage. It never really felt like it was lacking, and the runtime was acceptable. That being said, you can’t go wrong with the fuel either. It will cost you probably less than $100 more bare tool and give you a lot more power and runtime. You will probably be happy with either. If your goal is to spend the least money and have a great impact wrench, the brushed will fit the bill. If money isn’t an issue and you want arguably the best tool on the market, go for the fuel.

Also an important thing I need to point out. If you aren’t using this at heights or in environments where socket retention is absolutely crucial, do not do not do not get the detent pin model. It has less torque and the detent pin will make your life miserable.

That is such a great point, my first HT impact, the brushed dewalt 889 had a detent and i hated it, I prefer the hog rings, and if you don’t grease the detent it can get stuck and can be a bitch to get a socket out.

It’s even worse on the Fuels. You have to have a scribe or small screwdriver with you at all times to push in the pin to change sockets. Guys usually end up permanently putting a really stubby (1″ or less) Pittsburgh extension on the anvil and just swapping the sockets off the extension.

So I’m going with the fuel brushless model. It’s 219$ at Home Depot and has the friction ring.

What’s that stop all the grease from ruining it.

You have to order online? They don’t have them in the store?

Nope you can either ship to store or ship to home

FazzmanMember since Apr 2014

Yeah man protective boot for an impact is a great thing to have,I have them on my pneumatic impacts, they look like ass but when you pull that cover off the tool looks new.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Impact wrenches take a ton of abuse. Setting them on the floor all sorts of things.

dwainMember since Aug 2013

can’t go wrong with any of the three i think (if we’re talking Brushless versions). I think the Makita will be shortest as well as most powerful. But if one is much cheaper than the others, go for it.

dwainMember since Aug 2013

yeah the compact BL models from Makita and Milwaukee are definitely worth checking out. There is a 400Nm Metabo that is probably class leader. But if you can get by with the compact ~300Nm Makita/Milwaukee, that’s the way to go.

Yea I seen the metabo and I like it I just don’t have any batterys for the metabo and I don’t feel like paying 500$ for the set.

I misspoke,Here are the Milwaukee tools I have.

Only a few hand tools,no red power tools. If I were to get one it would be the HT impact wrench. Brushed or brushless doesnt matter to me all that much. Gen 2 brushless stuff is pretty awesome thou.

JspeedMember since Apr 2016

So I went ahead and bought the fuel brushless 1/2 impact wrench. I also picked up the one key driver and impact. The new Milwaukee electrician bag and another fuel sawzall which was free with the set. God damn you Home Depot you strike again. #tiacrew

You can blame me too most guys do lol

KnarlyCarlMember since Jan 2016

yeah, the blame can go around at different times, depending on who brought what sale to light ahaha!

Good choice on the Milwaukee, sounds like a real hard one to beat on power and good handling.

Is that the electrician bag that looks like a mini rolling suitcase?… or maybe that’s just me

JspeedMember since Apr 2016

I didn’t realize how big that impact is until you have it in your hand. That thing is huge. No it’s not the rolling one its just the little pouch that goes over your shoulder it’s pretty nice

one reason why i went with the compact and didnt wait for the full size monster makita. other is because i have a compressor too.

Do they fit on the M12? DeWalt needs to get with the program. This is the one thing that I forgot that does give the fuel a leg over the competition.

No, they don’t fit the 1/4″ Hex either, it does but it doesn’t fit right and it covers the quick release.

JspeedMember since Apr 2016

Yea I ordered mine already. They are pretty good to have

On lunch at home last night and got a call for an assist motorist. Grabbed my makita impact wrench and got the tire changed in no time. Also made winding up the screw jack effortless 🙂
