The new Bosch 12V Cordless Planer is the first 12V Max Planer on the market. There is a lot to like about this compact, versatile planer, but we want to know if and when we can use this one instead of our trusted old corded planers.

Bosch 12V Cordless Planer Overview

Bosch continues to add to its 12V Power Tool line-up. This cordless planer is compact (H 4.33” x L 10.04” x W 3.94”) and lightweight (just under 4 lbs. with the battery). And going cordless with your planer means you don’t have to worry about running out of cord on a long planing pass like a door.

The brushless motor provides 14,500 RPM (vs. 16,500 for similar corded Bosch planers). The motor’s constant speed circuitry did well to monitor and maintain speed under load; delivering performance consistency.

This is the first 12V Max planer on the market. When utilizing their newest 12V battery technology, you can expect long run times of around 33 ft. of planing per battery Amp hour. The battery fits on the back of the tool and Bosch incorporated a battery status gauge in the tool housing.

Bosch 12V Cordless Planer Performance

This is one of those tools I wish I knew was out a while ago.  You wouldn’t think a 12V planer would do much but this is awesome.  We built jam extensions for the new windows we put in my house.  We couldn’t believe how powerful, easy to use, and precise this tool was.

Bosch 12V Cordless Planer Value

You can pick this up on Amazon for $180 as a bare tool.  If you are in the trades and working with cabinets, trim or other projects that require a planer, this is a no-brainer, especially if you already own a 12V battery.

Bosch 12V Cordless Planer Wrap Up

The bottom line, this is what you would expect from Bosch.  No gimmicks, just a high-quality power tool that makes your job easier.  The Planer is powerful and will be an asset to you out in the field.  Not having to deal with a cord but still having plenty of run time makes this a must-have.

  1. I don’t know why you would need a cordless planner. The planner is a tool for your workshop and you should have plenty of outlets in the shop.

  2. I like being able to just grab a tool and use it without having to plug it in. Looks like it would work great for small pieces. But for the big stuff definitely plugging in a full size.
