I have to say this is one of the coolest tools and for the size, you get a lot of tool. So you may be asking what is the Hawkhook? The Hawkhook is a very cool rescue/party tool. Well okay, not really a party tool, but you will soon see why I joked about that. Bottomline this is a very handy tool for someone in the rescue field, someone who likes extreme sports where you might need to cut something rather quick or just anyone to keep in their car. I am sure there are a lot more people who would benefit from this tool, but it was a late night and I am not thinking right.
The Hawkhook is made by a company called Blackhawk. Now I am sure you have heard of them, but if not here you go. Blackhawk makes some very cool tactical items such as knives, footwear, vests, well the list goes on and on. The company was started by a Navy Seal member who vowed to make quality items. I am not going to go into the whole story, trust me Blackhawk is a great company. With that being said, let’s start talking about why you came here, the Blackhawk Hawkhook.
The Hawkhook has a bunch of tools in one. This has a window breaker, seat belt cutter, flat head screw driver, serrated edge and yes a bottle opener, one of the reasons I said it was a party tool. Now I am not complaining because I like the bottle opener, but you do have to chuckle a little bit about it. Something about having a bottle opener, then having a tool to help you escape from your car after a serious crash. However I like to look at it this way. You escape from the car first, then you pop open a beer to celebrate because the tool saved your life and you are around to make a comment below. Okay so you want the stats?
The blade is an 8A stainless steel that is 2.25″ long and has a matte bead-blast finish. When in the open position, the tool is 5.5″ long. The handle does have a nice grip and is a 4201 stainless steel with a textured nylon scale feel. Now the one thing I noticed is while you can remove the belt clip, you can’t change the location. Opening the blade is very easy with the thumb pin, however I use my right hand. I think for a lefty, it might be a little harder because of the belt clip being in the way. Time after time when we opened the blade, it locked right into place, every time.
I have to say if you are looking for a small little rescue tool to carry on your key chain, in your car or during other activities, this is a great solution. Plus being from a top notch company like Blackhawk, it’s hard to go wrong. Yes, there are competitor rescue tools out there and I am not saying the Hawkhook is the end all. But for the price, the size and what you get, it is hard to beat.
I like these types of multi function tools & this one looks cool. Also like the color in the event you drop it & need to find it quickly. Not sure about the bottle opener, but like you said, after a hard day of rescuring yourself from a car crash or rescuring others you will need a can/bottle opener for a job well done. You wouldn’t want to use the glass breaker to open the bottle & hurt yourself with glass schards. That would ruin all your hard work.
All kidding a side. I will look into Blackhawk company & see what other cool knives they may offer, which I don’t need to do. Laters TIA
Noticed it is made in TIAWAN, how about some made in USA knife reviews?
