Any of you guys run across the Ingersoll-Rand W7150-KL2

There is a lot of buzz on the car/garage forums about the Ingersoll-Rand-W7150-KL2. Have any of you all run across this tool and is it worthy of use for the building trades? How does it compare to the Milwakee 0779-22 and the Dewalt DC800KL? The specs seem to to point to the IR being about twice the tool of the others but we all know how specs often translate into real life tools, I’m really wondering how a 20v tool can best a 28v or 36v tool.

Does sound a bit fishy…..

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Cheap tools over here quite reasonable prices over all.

I don’t think the quality is bad either ๐Ÿ™‚

We don’t get companies doing comparisons like this over here because they get shot down in flames so quickly.

We have impact wrenches with over 1900 inch pounds of torque.

1900 in-lbs = 160 ft-lbs.

Ingersol-Rand are claiming 1100 Ft-Lbs. vs Milwaukees M28 325 Ft-Lbs.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

That sounds a little excessive LOL but they do come down hard on false advertising over here,so one can only assume those numbers must be accurate.

Well the car guys are bragging on them so there is something to them, shop work is different than work on the jobsite though, so I’m still wondering if they are worthy. They are kind of pricey so it does deserve some research.

It’s hard to imagine a cordless with that much ass behind it.

I could imagine it.

I could also imagine it only being able to do a few fasteners before the battery died, and having it break down pretty quickly to boot. That’s what makes me nervous about throwing down some cash.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

If it is in fact legit it certainly raises the bar.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Milwaukee is getting 450 ft-lbs out of their 2663 M18 high torque model. Hard to swallow IR nearly trippeling that. I guess anything is possible though.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

It seems they are being accurate and the tool does exactly as they say.

I have just spent a few hours researching this and contacting folks and they are high end quality for sure.

I am looking at a cordless drill and an impact driver right now that look very cool indeed. ๐Ÿ™‚

Any word on battery life?

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Battery life reports suggest comparable performance with the likes of Bosch and other top manufacturers, sothese are not by any means lower grade tools.

If anything they look to be built with high grade materials.Good find ๐Ÿ™‚

IR puts out good stuff, but holy Mary mother of God, 1100 ft-lbs of torque? That’s amazing.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Made for Chuck Norris maybe. LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

They are claiming it as an equal to pneumatic wrenches.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Thanks guys. Now I want one!

For the money they want for one, I’m going to wait until I can examine one, rather than purchase it sight unseen. I do have my Milwaukee 28v wrench. It will not loosen nuts tightened by an pneumatic wrench though.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

OPT has a deal going on where you get a 3rd battery free.

So, you going to pick one up and report back?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Not likely. Saving up for the table saw.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

LOL You want that saw real bad bud. ๐Ÿ™‚

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Yes I do, lol. I don’t know if its that I like the Bosch that much or I hate the one I have so much.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

The Bosch is a beast. ๐Ÿ™‚

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

In about a month we shall see.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Cool am sure you will be very happy going by how happy the guys I know are with the mitre saw it should be a belter. ๐Ÿ˜€

How much does it cost?

The W7150-KL2 is around $300 for a bare tool $425 for the kit.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

It’s not insanely priced, but with IR it’s a bit harder to buy into a system compared to the other manufacturers. If you need that much ass it’s well worth it thought.

IR is pretty popular with the car and truck guys, they seem to cater more towards them with their cordless line up. I’m doubting many mechanics are buying into the likes of Milwaukee and Dewalt.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

I like the look of the cordless line it has a very modern but quality look to it.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Most of the mining equipment mechanics I know use the IR stuff. Most of the auto mechanics I see use whatever they can get the cheapest. I assume this is because the coal company is buying the IR stuff and the other guys are buying their own.

Wow, you must be further out in the sticks than me, Even here in the second poorest county in Florida, the car guys are maxing out their credit on Mac and Snap-on. I don’t think you would even be considered for a job here unless you had a quality set of tools to begin with, no less all the grief you would get from your fellow mechanics.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

It always kinda puzzled me too. The 2 body shops in out area buy Snap-On, but the service stations use a lot of Harbor Freight junk.

Could it be the body shop guys use their own tools and the service station supplies tools for employees?

The difference between paying someone $25 an hour versus minimum wage?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Could be

I have the IR IQ 3/8 impact, the ratchet and the drill. Home use on my old Mustang and family cars; they work well, have plenty of power, long battery life and the battery recharges fairly quick.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

What model Mustang do you have?

ricksterMember since Sep 2012

65 coupe

Awesome. I’m a Fastback fan myself. I had 91 LX. Best car I ever owned.
