Porter Cable 16GA Straight Finish Nailer

Porter Cable Nailer

image002Last October we told you about the Porter Cable 18ga Brad Nailer and the Crown Nailer.  Now Porter Cable is launching a new nailer to their 20V line, the 16 gauge straight finish nailer.  The new nailer has a capacity of 1” to 2-1/2” and a magazine capacity of 100 nails.  A user should get up to 1,000 nails per charge (4Ah battery), but again that depends upon what type of material you are nailing into.  If you want to lighten up the tool a little and use a 1.5Ah battery, you will get about 375 nails shoots per charge.  While the tool does look a little big, it only weighs 5.7 lbs, but that is without the battery.

As with their other nailers, this nailer runs straight off the battery, so that means no compressor or gas cartridges to replace.  This nailer will come with a 3 year warranty and 90 day money back guarantee.  That’s a pretty standard and decent industry warranty.

For me it’s hard to tell if this will be a good nailer or not.  We tried the 18 Gauge crown stapler and have to say I was impressed.  While I thought it was a little heavy and bulky, it was fairly consistent with the depth it would drive the nails.  This new nailer looks like it has a tool free jam release which is a huge benefit, but this new nailer also looks pretty bulky.  Again, I am just looking at a picture and haven’t taken this for a test drive.

  1. Thanks for posting. I’ve been waiting for this since I’m already invested in their existing battery platform I wonder if they will come out with an angled version of it.

  2. I had porter cables whole line up of cordless 20v max. I ended up returning it all because the battery’s were not that great. Some of the tools were awesome, like this nailer or the jig saw. The drill was alright but the impact gun was not good for me. This impact had a lot of hammer to it, I also went though a bunch of bits.
