“Did I leave the stove on?”, “Did I close the garage door?”, “Did I leave my drill at the job site”.   You guessed it, I have OCD.  So any tool that is going to give me peace of mind will make my life easier.  A few months back I was putting a stove back after replacing the floor.  After a few days there was a faint natural gas odor and sure enough the connection was not tight enough.  If I had the RIDGID Micro CD-100 then I would have known instantly that there was a slow leak and been able to correct the issue.  In some situations this could be a lifesaver.

The CD-100 has an element that heats up to detect combustible gases.  The element has an expected 5 year service life and is easily replaceable.  There is no learning curve to this unit, everything is pretty straight forward and it allows you get started right away.  The 16″ flexible probe allows you to get into the tightest of areas.  The CD-100 has what RIDGID calls TRI-MODE Detection, meaning the unit visually, audibly and vibrates to warn you when it detects a leak.  There are a series of lights (thresholds) that let you know the level of the leak from 0- 6400 PPM.  You can turn off the sound and vibration via the oversized rubber buttons which are easy to operate with gloves on.  Here you can access the high or low setting also.

When you turn the power on, the unit calibrates itself.  You need to make sure that you are in a gas free environment.  The  CD-100 is designed to detect Methane, Propane, Butane, Ethanol, Ammonia, Hydrogen, Gasoline and many other combustible gases.  Once you have the unit powered up and calibrated it is a good idea to test it by releasing some gas from a cigarette lighter to make sure it is operational.  The unit is powered by 4AA batteries which is nice to see because of their easy availability.  To wrap it up the RIDGID Micro CD-100 Combustible Gas Detector is a good detector for any contractor or professional that runs into any sort of combustable gas situation.  This rugged unit will last a long time and the lifetime service agreement gives great piece of mind!  Check out RIDGID
