Grinders are the cornerstone for many jobs, like ripping down concrete.  While many manufacturers offer various types of grinders, there is a limited amount that offers powerful 7″ grinders to get some serious work done.  Makita has a corded grinder model GA7011C that is not only powerful but easy to work with.  So let’s jump into our Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Overview

Before we jump into the Makita 7″ grinder review, I do want to bring something to your attention and that is customer reviews.  If you look on The Home Depot or Amazon, this grinder doesn’t have a ton of reviews and some of them are negative.

Reading through the reviews on Amazon one guy gave it a 1 star because it didn’t work for his application.  Not sure what it was but was it the tools fault or did the guy not get the right type of tool for the application?

On The Home Depot, one guy said it was too messy.  When we ran ours, it did an awesome job.  Another guy said when he pushed hard, the grinder would slow down.  Okay while we didn’t experience this, at least that is a valid argument.

So just wanted to let you know before we jump ahead.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Features

The grinder features a powerful 15 Amp brushed motor that delivers 6,000 rpm’s.  The grinder features a soft start along with an electronic speed control which maintains consistent speed even under loads.  The tool only weighs 7.5 lbs.

The rear handle is very comfortable and easy to hold while controlling the grinder.  There is a large trigger switch which also features a lock-on function.

The included side handle can be positioned on the right or left side of the tool.

The spindle lock is located on top of the tool.  The button is large and easy to push even while wearing gloves.

Where the cord meets the tool, there is extra rubber to protect from breaks and tears.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Performance

Okay, I messed up.  We did a bunch of grinding on the cement block but I got the camera a little too close when we weren’t using the dust collection system.  All the pictures of them in action didn’t come out because of the thick cement dust on the camera.

We ended up hooking the grinder up to the Makita dust collecting guard and used a Makita Diamond cup wheel.  After using the grinder with the dust management system, I can’t understand why the one person complained about the dust.  For us, it did an awesome job keeping the dust at a minimum.

Even when we pushed down on the grinder, we had a hard time getting it to bog down. Bottom line if I am going to grind down a garage floor or threshold, this is the grinder and dust system I am going to use.  The grinder does an awesome job.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Value

The Makita 7″ grinder retails for about $175 on The Home Depot.  Compared to other 7″ grinders on the market, this is a little pricey.  You do get more features than some of the other grinders, but it really depends upon what applications this grinder will be used for.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Final Thoughts

The Makita grinder is a workhorse.  If you are looking for a grinder that will make your job a little easier, the Makita GA7011C should be something to consider.  The grinder, along with the dust collection system did a great job containing all the debris and waste material.
