Hilti SID 2-A

Go to any construction job and ask anyone if they have heard of Hilti and what they think.  I am pretty sure that everyone has heard of Hilti and everyone has something good to say about them.  With that being said, Hilti just came out with a new 12v line up and introduced three new tools.  With these three new tools, I can say Hilti did an awesome job and won’t disappoint any Hilti fan or anyone else looking to get into a 12v line.  In the new line up, they introduced a Hammer drill, an Impact driver and a screw fastener driver, which you can buy separately or in a combo kit.  As you can see by the title, today we are going to focus on the Hilti SID 2-A screw fastening driver

For those of you who are looking for a sub compact screw fastening driver, Hilti may be the way to go.  The tool is light, only weighing 2.42 lbs and is pretty short with a length of 6.18″  Hilti designed this SID 2-A with a single gear and variable speed trigger which allows the user to adjust speeds from 0-2,500 no load RPM.  Considering the size is small and the weight is basically none, you would probably expect the tool to lack on torque.  However the Hilti SID 2-A packs a powerful punch with 973 in-lbs of torque and produces 0-3,410 ipm.  Not too shabby for a tool of this size.

In regards to the tool, as with the other tools in the 12V line up, this tool has a great grip and is well balanced.  The sleek design and short length does make this an easy tool to use all day long.  Hilti designed this tool with two LED lights located on the base of the tool.  This does a great job lighting up the area you will be driving fasteners into.  So who is this tool idea for?  A wide variety of applications and people.  This is perfect for driving self-tapping screws up to 3/16″ diameter in metal and driving wood screws and lag bolts up to 1/4″ in diameter in wood.  Hilti decided to design this tool with a slide on 12v 2.6Ah battery which means you can set the tool in the upright position.  Hilti also did something great with the batteries.  Instead of having a battery gauge on the tool, which most companies do, Hilti has the battery gauge on the battery.  This means no longer do you have to put a battery on a tool just to find out it’s out of juice.  You can press the release button and see the level using a 4 LED panel.

Hilti SID 2-A Specs

  • 1/4″ hex chuck
  • Weight – 2.42 lbs
  • Lenght – 6.18″
  • Max Torque – 973 in-lbs
  • 0-2,500 no load RPM
  • 0-3,410 IPM
  • Number of gears 1

I have to say I love this tool.  While I couldn’t find much to complain about, I could find a bunch of things to impress me.  When you are investing in a 12v tool, we want power and speed, but mostly we want a lightweight tool with a great feel and balance.  Hilti didn’t disappoint as they made a top notch 12V screw fastening driver.  You can buy this whole Hilti 12V kit $299, which is a steal.

  1. Not sure why the specs and mention of them in the write up include IPM. And on the Impact Driver write up, there is no mention of it.
