Wow   This is exactly why I dont go off of the star rating with out reading them first.

Home Depot reviews is very misleading at times especially for power tools. Definitely read the fine print. But this guy is a bozo for sure.

KnarlyCarlMember since Jan 2016

Bozo, yup! This is why I look for patterns in reviews, if several people say something bad about a product, probably something to it, otherwise if just one person complains, it might be isolated problem, or simply ignorance.

That’s a pretty good assumption…what’s sad is its pretty accurate as well!

I’m always a little skeptical of reviews. I feel like a lot of the time, inexperienced users buy something, use it wrong and then bash the company or product for their lack of knowledge. If the company has a good rep the product is probably good.

khariVMember since Dec 2014

I love reading reviews where people complain about some horrible problem with a product that they claim ruins their entire life because the company is stupid and sold never have released such a piece of crap to begin with, only to read a little farther and find out that the reviewer is an idiot.

I have a twisted sense of humor.

I have this compressor, but I never expected to run air tools with it lol.  It does work great with my airbrush, which is the main reason I bought it.

Society is also conditioned towards positive and negative experiences differently.

Yup, If you have 20 happy customers, maybe 1 or 2 will tell someone. If you have 100 happy customers, maybe 1 will leave a review. If you have 2 upset customers, both will leave bad reviews.

Numbers are rough estimates obviously, just to make the point.

I’ve always used a quote I heard about 7-8 years ago. “A happy customer may tell 1-2 people but a pissed off customer will tell 10 or more.”

Same principal.

It’s true, that’s what the former shop owner used to say all the time. I think both are really accurate. Mine was attempting to estimate numbers of reviews online. We have hundreds of happy customers every year and I think we have 14 5-star reviews on Google. We average 1 good review on BBB a year, normally from someone who ships us something to fix.

I normally look more at the good reviews than the bad unless I see a trend. Also, I’ve found that you need to check the language on the good reviews on some Chinese products, it seems they must compensate for reviews…who’s going to write a 5-star review with “I like it” or “good product” but I see some products with dozens of those “reviews.”

your right Ricky, bad news always travels faster then good……….

same goes when working for a business, you can make 100’s of great decisions to make them money but 1 bad decision like slapping the boss’s wife’s ass at a Christmas party is a no no…WTF?

I always tell customers, “If you liked my work, tell others, if not, tell me”

Here is the funny part, I have a similar sized Porter Cable that I just plug in and charge up the tank and carry it out to air up the tires on the car or truck when needed. It usually gets the job done without needed to be plugged in again. If I need to go out and change a tire or two it will also work again without needing to be plugged in. I pretty much use it in place of an air tank any time I need one. The whole story reminds me of the folks who used to come into the farm equipment dealership where I worked and wanted to buy a 2200 watt generator and run a whole house with it. I was the guy who went to generator school, learned all the basics about electrical math and had to help folks learn about needs versus wants.

haha just like the 2 slice toaster for a family of 7 your just not going to eat toast at the same time……

so give it a 1 out 5 stars

RickyMcGrathMember since Oct 2014

Love the analogies!

I picked one up just for shits and giggles. Not to mention, any lower in price and HD would be paying me [emoji16] to take it.

I have an 80 Gallon IR in the garage and the Ridgid Tri Stack for portability. I’m not even sure what I will do with it. I do like the idea of just using it as a tank.

We are taking a road trip in May. It’ll probably be nice to have in the bed of the truck with my 1,000 watt inverter. Just in case.

Damn what an effing idiot thinking he can run high cfm tools on that tiny little pancake compressor!!

FoneguyMember since Mar 2016

This is a perfect example of why forums like this one are priceless !!! It’s nice to ask opinions from people that actually use tools and know what they are talking about. I used a pancake style for years. Car tires , finish nailer …. No problem … Sold it on Craigslist … Bought a small 33 gal that can run smaller tools. That’s all I need.

Step 1 …. Buy the right tool for the job !!!

I use my little four gallon Rolair to take lug nuts off my truck with a small impact and it does just fine and it’s not like I am using it for that everyday, just for rotating tires or the occasional brake job. I sure wouldn’t use it for die grinders or cutoffs and expect it to do well…and if I did I sure as hell wouldn’t post a review about it complaining online!

The same thing happens with cars. I’ve seen vehicles like VW and Audi get bad reviews because of features like automatic windows. The user couldn’t get the window to the exact place like their could with the old crank that their old POS had. Couldn’t understand that just mashing the button makes it go all the way. These types of reviews really need to be filed under something like *didn’t understand the purpose or principles of the product* or maybe something like a BoR site. It’s the review answer to BoC.

If you didn’t catch those acronyms they’d be Best of Reviews and Best of Craigslist respectively.

I wonder how pissed the guy would be if he got a 6.5″ saw and then tried to cut something like a 6×6 or 8×8. That would probably be worth getting on tape.

I see the same types of reviews at harbor freight all the time. Someone expecting a tool to do everything for them or not knowing how to use it to begin with.  When I research a new product I only read the bad reviews to see what they are complaining about.  The 5 star reviews are typically from people who know what the tool is for and what to expect it to do.  The old sayings are correct, people expect perfection and don’t appreciate it, but will complain to everyone about any little thing they don’t like. I had a friend when I did snow removal complain to everyone I knew but me that I didn’t “put the blade down all the way” when I did his driveway.  What he didn’t realize is there isn’t any down pressure on a truck snow plow and once you drive over snow it packs to ice which the blade won’t chip up no matter how many passes I made. I had several commercial accounts I had to do before I hit my residential accounts and he and his wife would leave for work before I got to his packing down his driveway. He ended up having a guy that worked for him to do his drive the following year and had the same problem, shocker…

Here’s another one. Blaming DeWalt because Home Depot blocked out half of the disclosure he was looking for. I can clearly see it says “Battery n….” NOT INCLUDED.

Hey man it could have said battery NOW included! [emoji6] [emoji16] [emoji90] Sorry I couldn’t help it. People are just douche canoes sometimes, it just so happens that those are generally the ones that make the most noise or type reviews on Home Depots site!

I guess it COULD have. But if he REALLY cared to look to see if a battery was included or not, he may have checked another box for clarification. [emoji6]

Sounds like he’s trying to pass the buck. People need to take responsibility for their actions.
