Picture frame, pull the end piece out and the plastic slides out and pics attach to that?
The ends won’t slide out, though you think they should. There are metal pins connected to springs between the ends and middle piece of wood that prevent the pieces from sliding.

My first guess is an instrument cluster for barametric pressure, temperature and maybe a clock.

I agree looks like a picture frame. I see the pin on one end but not on the other end. Does that side slide? If it doesnt it might be glued and your supposed to pull the pin (works like a lock)
