Well with all this crazy nipex deals going around I managed to end up with an extra 7″ alligator plier, I purchased the alligator kit and already had the small one. So what to do with it? GIVEAWAY!!

I will giveaway the new one not the one I’ve drenched in pipe goo and god knows what lol so don’t worry about calling the CDC. These are great quality pliers and like all tools will suck you into their brand. So in order to enter your going to have to work for it, unlike wig wags giveaway, I want a story of not your favorite but the most valuable tool you have ever purchased. Not in terms of cost but the necessity of the tool and how it helps save your behind when you need it. Pictures are sufficient unless your an over achiever and want to post a video then I’ll award extra credit points that will go toward nothing but you can feel good about yourself. I will announce a winner on March 25!

Good luck!

sweet giveaway jimbo…..

The oscillating tools have been the most valuable tool lately for me. As far as tight situations and getting out of a hard spot. Or my #4 Stanley plain. It helps make finish work really become finished work.

This might seem lame to some of you, but my most valuable tool that I have is a retractable pencil “leash” for my carpenters pencil or sharpie. Mine is a Home Depot one, but I know that C.H Hansen hakes their own as well. I constantly lose my marking devices and this eliminates that problem. For only a few bucks, this has come in handy more times than I can count.

HiltiWpgMember since Sep 2015

My most valuable tool…

I would say my voltage tester.

Common sense is rare these days and trusting other people isn’t worth betting your life on.

I have come pretty close to some life threatening shocks. Circuits that I de-energized and some ass turned back on, lock out tag removed, drywall guys trying to give themselves power, improperly deleted circuits and some brain farts on my part.

Without a doubt, my most valuable tool, my sweetie thinks so too.

No tool no matter the price of it goes unappreciated, everything from retractable pencil holders to 80′ wide tunnel boring machines and everything in between!

Now Jimbo is going to get someone else addicted to knipex tools. Count me out for this one. I have the same size but in the cobra style.

BMack37Member since Sep 2015

I’m kind of torn between two different tools that I’ve discussed on here before and rather recently.

Bosch clic-change: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004R9LC

Most quick changes force you to pull the collar out then pull the bit out to release, then you have to pull the collar out and insert a bit to use the new bit. This quick change stays in the open position when you pull it, it will only close when a bit is inserted. What this does is makes one-handed bit changes easy. At work the two most common screws I deal with are PH2 and PH1, most things have both. So this makes it soo easy to change between bits. My co-worker has to go to his toolbox and grab a screwdriver or a bit to do start taking out the PH1s, for me it’s a 3 second change and I don’t have to take a step.

Engineer PZ-58: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L6HJAA

These are the screw extracting pliers that I recommend soo frequently. Some of the pieces we work on have been worked on by others or are factory reconditioned, sometimes these have stripped screws. Previously, what I had to do is try regular slip-joint pliers and normally not get anywhere. Then I had to drill out the screw and hope to be able to remove the stud. If I was doing in-home stuff, that meant I had to haul the unit back to the shop, which sucks. Now with these, I simply grab the pliers from my bag and in a minute I have the screw removed and the customer never even knows there was an issue. I also use these to grip anything cylindrical, if I’ve hanging capacitors and they’re in a tight spot or glued in, out come the PZ-58s. If you use other pliers you will crush the cap and constantly slip off, these give me a nice, delicate grip so I don’t have to worry about damaging the board if there’s still some solder on the leads.

So those are my tools I can’t live without at this point. There is one tool I can live without; I have several Knipex pliers and though I do not have these, I’d rather someone with less Knipex than I have get to try these out. So count me out on this giveaway, good luck guys 🙂

Hey Jimbo, great giveaway. Count me out of this one, but since I’m bored and and can’t sleep I’m going to share my most valuable tool. Once again don’t consider this as an entry. I already have all the tools I need. My most valuable tools are tied between a no contact voltage tester and my leatherman charge TTI. [External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied] The no contact voltage tester saved me when doing demolition work on a building. Everyone had assumed the power had been cut and the building was about to get torn down by yours truly when I decided to check the wires. They had been cut overhead and that’s where we assumed they had been fed from, but it turns out that they were the source. These wires were exposed and connected directly to the power lines. Talk about scary stuff. If one person had grazed them it would have killed them like that. [External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied] The TTI is titanium and amazing. I use it all the time when I’m in a tight spot. One day I had my trailer plug catch and tear when I turned. It was getting dark and getting if back without lights was not an option. So I Mcguyvered the wires together using the leatherman and some painters tape I inexplicably had in my cab, and of course baling twine, so I at least had running lights. [External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied]

Other uses have included sawing through 4″ rubber on the side of the road that was dragging. Best tool to have in your pocket.

I must admit my favorite tool IS my most valuable tool. My Bosch laser level is the one tool that I use the absolute most of any other I have making it my most valuable. This torpedo level with three axis lasers saves me a metric ton of hassle. Its my third hand, a multi use awesome little companion I keep handy in my tool box. I know where I can and can’t run a stick of pipe if there is something in the way, I know exactly what length of pipe needs to be run, I can make 45 degree fittings so easy and clean. Before this, it was a guessing game if anyone has joined 45 degree pvc fittings, it can be so annoying when the measurements aren’t quite right and it has to be pulled apart and reset. I bought this from Acme tools for about $82 I believe and it has paid for itself 29 times over. It also has three axis levels to account for x y and z plains, which correspond to the laser beams.

.

Another extremely useful function of this is hanging gas pipe or radiant heaters in a larger commercial building (200′ x 150′ x 25′ high), where the slope of the roof doesn’t allow for measuring down from the roof purlins with a tape measure. I am able to bring a section of pipe across the front of the building, which I can keep level with the roof line, then set the laser level (which is magnetic) on the pipe (black iron) and shoot a beam across to the other side of building. This allows me to set my hardware to hang the pipe and it’s extremely straight and accurate.

.

I know this isn’t some fancy spectacular cordless amazing doohicky, but it’s my most valuable tool by a clear margin. Its also my favorite. I have a lot of money in cordless tools and other hand tools, they all are useful in their own way, but they can all be substituted with something else.

No flash to see the lasers better:

Man oh man, most valuable tool?

Id have to go with my Titan 440i sprayer, Little Red.  Its small enough to not be a pain when your dragging it around, but has enough oomph to spray most materials. I often find myself grabbing it when one of my larger pumps might be better suited just because Im so comfortable with it.

Ive probably pushed it more than I should have at times and it always comes back asking for more!

And my last project little red helped me out on.

My most valuable tool is going to have to be my oscillating multitools.[External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied][External image (uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com), not copied] I never realized how handy these things were until I started our bathroom remodel. I have used them for a little bit of everything and they have really got me out of a few binds.

I planed on showing of my scroll saw but with Sabrena’s mom being moved to Hospice, and taking care of Grandson all week, don’t have time to get in the workshop.  Great giveaway, I’m sure the lucky crew member will give them a good home.

I’m a dedicated pencil user, don’t use pens. Of course they have to be 100% natural wood.  I been in the market for a new sharper, will have to check out the Bostitch

Thanks guys, I can just see my next paycheck going straight to knipex now haha!

But seriously, for the record, I was on a roll with that level, not trying to up my chances, that thing is seriously an instrument of success in my work. I posted about drilling the holes with that laser, that was the first time I used it for that purpose, makes it lightning fast once i have my slope set up. I’m going to sing its praise wherever I go so this is probably not the last you will hear of it lol ?
