What knife do you guys carry on the job site?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Most of these guys carry the Milwaukee fast back.

Buck 110 all day everyday. That and a leatherman charge tti. A lot of guys like kershaws and Gerber’s but the buck is the only one that feels right in my hand.
Growing up on the jobsite it was always the classic Stanley 10-499 quick change utility knife, i still have one of those, but I keep a small Gerber knife on me now, don’t really need a knife as much anymore

At one point I had three of those….I wonder where they are?
That Kershaw looks nice,Im a big spyderco fan thou,Kershaw blades just seem a bit soft. I dont own a fastback yet but id like too,I do have a Milwaukee retractable razor knife I really like,it fits well in the hand.

The Kershaw is actually quite good, keeps an edge 10x longer than my SOG Kilowatt ever did. The weight is nice too considering the bits and flip out driver.
I have a Milwaukee fastback and for $25 it is the best overall bang for the buck but the build quality and tolerances are a little lenient.

Cool thanks for the reply bro,I have heard that about the fastbacks before, also have heard that the pocket clips are not very good. I have some SOG knives too and yes i agree they seem to need touchup more often than others. Im gonna put that Kershaw on my list,it does look useful.
That’s funny we are talking about knives. Yesterday I picked up another fastback from the Toolnut. Only because I needed to spend $40 for free shipping. Don’t ask! Anyway, I had to replace it because I keep losing them. Every time I get in and out of the truck there it goes. Normally I hear it hit the ground, but now with us finally getting snow. I guess you have to be a fan of Milwaukee to appreciate them.

maybe it’s time to get a magnetic belt……
You know I’m a little dicked I hate to say, I always have my gerber. And I also Have a fast back. Why two? Thats the dicked part. I don’t know. I always think of the gerber as a tool not a knife. Other people I use to work with keeps theirs in their pockets and never had a problem. And I never heard any of these guys say they lose theirs. It’s just me. [emoji848]

hmm maybe they are not losing theirs cause they got yours……lol you know the ones you keep losing….
This is true? I should investigate that.

back in the day in the machine shop, we had a glove missing epidemic so we decided to put some prussion blue machining dye in some gloves to see who was taking them, come coffee break the fellow that didn’t take his gloves off was usually the guilty party…..
that stuff was nasty and would keep your hands blue for days….
With me, my luck I’ll go down the the local playground and see my knives being tossed around by a bunch of kids.

I keep my knife in a leather sheath on my belt and never have to worry about losing it. I had a fastback for about a day but I didn’t like anything about it and didn’t bother looking for it when it went missing.
My Spyderco Tenacious goes everywhere with me. Great knife for the money.

Faz the pocket clips suck, to thin and real easy to bend if they get caught on something.

I have a Kershaw something or other in my right pocket at all times. My leatherman on my hip. If I am wearing my bags I have a Fastback clipped on a pocket and a Stanley Classic-99
Benchmade griptilian (full size and mini) and Spyderco delica are great all around knives.
A benchmade is definitely on the list. That and a sebenza[emoji7]Shuutr wrote:

I’ve been wanting a Sebenza knife for years. I’m afraid if I got one I wouldn’t be able to use it…..I’d just stare at it!
I love Kershaw, both Clayton and the knives. That is a cool looking knife Hilti

Saved me a ton of time and money.
Nothing worse that cleaning up and getting ready to leave only to find you forgot to put a cover back or some nonsense. Anything that saves a trip to the van is a keeper!

I use and carry the fastback every day at work.

I bought a used one and still don’t feel comfortable carrying one.
Just to be that douche I had to go and buy one of these today to see how it stacks up.

I like the Dewalt knife. It’s a good cheap blade. My main complaint is that it’s simultaneously too easy and too hard to open. When closed, the hinge opens very easily with the slightest pressure on the thumb stud. I’ve had it open a bit in my pocket and is now relegated to a small pocket in my tool bag. At the same time, you can’t fully open it with the flipper. Instead, you have to use the thumb stud and open slowly and purposefully. Not a huge problem, but then again, it’s not a knife that I’d carry around for quick deployment. The fact that a two year old can open it easily also means that this one stays in the garage, away from the kiddos.

I know its not scientific but this is how we separate the men from the boys. About an hour later the Dewalt is annihilated. The casualties? First the thumb stud then the latch.

Here’s how I test knives to their limits.
I’m honestly surprised it held together for so long.

Man I used to throw knives so much I got in trouble when I set up an old table inside and accidentally bounced off and cut a window curtain lol

Glad I never picked the Dewalt up, I looked at it a few rimes

This has been my work knife since forever. I bought this in high school, maybe 2001-2002, love the knife. It’s a Colt Police Positive:

I have a ton of knives I use for different things but this is the knife I used at work, at my various jobs.
Wow I can never get a year or two out of my knife before I lose it in some cesspool of a crawlspace lolBMack37 wrote:

I’m really careful with my stuff and keep it clean. I also try to use the proper tool for the job so I don’t cut boxes with it, so I’m not constantly dulling the blade. I’m also one of those guys that use pocket clips backwards, so the knife goes into my pocket and the clip is outside, so it doesn’t get knocked off if I bump into something. I also don’t work in construction, I think if I did I would have replaced the knife several times by now.
I do really like Colt knives, very high quality all-steel construction and can take a beating. S&W also makes nice knives.

I’ve carried and lost a lot of knives over the years, so I don’t spend serious money on them anymore. They drop in a wall, fall out of your pocket in a crawlspace, break, or something and you watch $60 or $100 go fuck itself.
I never liked the folding razor knives or box knives since they’re too sharp and a sharp knife sucks for stripping wire. It needs to be slightly dulled to give you enough control so that you don’t cut through insulation you don’t want to cut through (stripping romex, for instance). I’ve seen more insulation and wires damaged by idiots with box knives and been shocked more times by split or peeled back insulation that you can’t see at first than I care to remember.
At some point I got myself a splicing knife and pretty much fell in love. I never had to fight to open a knife in insulated gloves again, they have great carbon blades that will take whatever edge you want to put on them, they won’t ever fold back on your hand unexpectedly and they’re relatively cheap. The blade is usually short enough that I can carry it without danger in a cargo pocket. It’s stable enough and the blade is thin enough that I can use it to cut along a straight edge accurately. Overall, it works great for me.
This is the one I have now, a Bear that appears to be out of production.
Have you had good luck with S&W? All two or three of mine only lasted for a month max before the latch was shot and the screws had all walked out.BMack37 wrote:

I know this will make you fellow knife lovers cringe but the DeWalt lives again(with probably little to zero integrity at the base of the blade). I love knives and didn’t want the knife to go to waste and so I introduce to you the all new limited edition DeWalt fixed blade knife (scraper at this point)

nothing wrong with that man!
I really like the fastback, but it’s also hard to beat Hen and Rooster. That Solingen steel is some good stuff!

I carry the Milwaukee razor blade
I had to chime in on this one.
I rotate between a Benchmade Griptillan, min grip and my current favorite a Zero Tolerance, ZT make some great stuff for reasonable money.
Co-workers get nervous if I carry one of the knives in the picture!
