A lawn and garden battery shouldn’t be any different than a car battery other than the amount of cranking amps it can deliver and in physical size. What battery is on it now?

I do not know it’s my grandfathers and it’s at his house. it has not been used since 2003. It’s 5,000-7,000 watts if that matters. When I was up there for xmas to put on a new recoil, and we start it up we let it running for 10min and on our multimeter we got 13 volts but when we plug a light in it did not turn on.

Jon B, at first glance I would say a car battery of at least 600ca. I’m hoping when you tested the voltage, It might have been the charging side voltage to the battery, 13 volts would make sense. Unless you tested one of the outlets, then 13 volts is a problem. If you had the model number you could look up the manual at http://www.powermate.com/productmanuals.php?cat_id=3. Might make sense to take it to a qualified technician. Good luck.

I’m kinda confused are you testing the 120 outlet or the battery? I think the magnets in the generator might need to be re energized if its been sitting that long. http://www.endtimesreport.com/dead_gen.htmlThe other thing is I don’t know if that generator will even charge that battery it just might be a convenience start.

The 13 volts is from the battery not the outlets
