new tool release

just found it on Dewalt web site (wow, a post on a Sunday)

DCF887 20V MAX* XR Brushless 1/4″ 3-Speed Impact Driver

from a quick glance what is new:

  • 3 speed
  • 2mm shorter than dcf886

available as bare tool and kit

cited from the Dewalt web site:

  • DEWALT built brushless motor and XR Lith-Ion batteries deliver more run time and capacity over standard units
  • 3-speed settings for optimized application versatility
  • Precision Drive in speed 1 for precision applications and added control
  • Three (3) LED lights with 20 second delay after trigger release, provide visibility without shadows
  • One-handed loading 1/4″ hex chuck with easy grip sleeve accepts 1″ bit tips
  • Compact and lightweight design to fit into tight areas (2 mm shorter than the previous DCF886)

cheers

Forgot the specs:

Specifications Voltage 20V MAX* Anvil Type 1/4” Hex No Load Speed 0-1000/ 2,800/ 3,250rpm Chuck Type Quick Release Impacts/Min 3600ipm Torque 240/ 1500/ 1825in-lbs Max Torque (in-lbs) 240/ 1500/ 1825in-lbs Speed 0-1000/ 2,800/ 3,250rpm Tool Length 5.3″
Hugh JassMember since Feb 2015

325 in/lbs more torque. 400 more ipm. 450 more rpm. All vs the outgoing model.

This is a worthy update for sure.

Nice. Is the 2mm shorter a typo, it looks a lot smaller in that pic.

Frikkin’ sweet find!

midogrumpyMember since Jan 2010

Tool lenght

(taken from the web site specs) but I re checked

dfc886=

Tool Length 5.55″

dcf887 =

Tool Length 5.3″

so it is ,2″ (inches)

so approx. 5,08 mm (not 2mm)

Based on what leaks have hit the forums, I don’t think anyone saw this coming at all. Might be getting more of a push for upgrades from Dewalt than expected.

Yes! I’ve been waiting for something like this.

Midogrumpy brought up this before that he seen it somewhere and a few dewalt guys said there was no new impact coming out. Maybe it’s a long way from release

A link would be nice to have, didn’t see anything on dewalts page

So is this the same as the dcf895 but without the pushbutton bit release?

No, did u look at the specs.
ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Yeah that’d be like calling a VW Bug Turbo and a Dodge Challenger SRT the same thing. Sure both are cars, they have 4 wheels and they both come in yellow but you know the girls are driving the bug to the store and the guys are driving the Challenger at the track 😉

I can see people think this is the new replacement for the DCF895 because of the 3-speed option that both have.

Sweet little impact driver!

I see what you did thar…

The chuck is different than the 895, that model kind of fell flat and was not widely loved.  Never used that one but heard it was difficult to use at times.  This model is dewalts answer to the gen 2 Milwaukee.  The torque on this one would actually be 25 more than Milwaukees, which will we actually notice? Probably not, but its nice to see Dewalt improve their impacts, especially with the 899 they introduced recently.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

No no no. It’s just wishful thinking.

I have been using an 895 for 3+ years. I’ve tried most other impacts and feel it is superior in many ways to others.

I have a fuel impact and also the normal dewalt brushless. I always go to the 895.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Me too. I’ve been using the DCF895 for a few years now and come to love it. Though in all honesty, it’s been sitting in speed 3 ever since. Do like the chuck on this.

Like I’ve said I never used it but heard it was difficult to adjust to, I have a 2 speed m12 impact and I don’t think I’ve ever dropped to the lower speed setting but it’s nice to have, I’ve envied the Milwaukee users with the multi speed fuels.

When did Dewalt change their ratings? For the longest time in the USA they were using the UWO as their metric which no other company did.

I don’t believe they’ve ever used UWO to measure impacts, it’s likely very difficult to measure and perhaps the numbers numerically lower compared to the competition. Marketing gimmicks are only used to advantage, not disadvantage.

the biggest thing is not having the exposed bit holder.  its flush in front.  that takes a little getting used to.  but the push button bit ejection is nice.  you dont need 2 hands to remove the bit.

Jimbo, I bet your 3/8″ anvil will fit in that one too…. bit more breakaway torque

pmiller383Member since Jul 2014

This thing looks awesome, I wonder how the price will be on it. I love my current 886 but the three speeds really makes this one appealing to me.

It probably would, maybe eventually but I’m satisfied with the 886 for the 3/8″ anvil. But when I saw that I said a few words lol figures a new model would come out lol. Maybe Dewalt will be smart and release a brushless 3/8″ with the higher torque rating.

The 887 will replace the 895 and the 886. You will probably see the 886 still ship in some combo kits for a while though. Not sure on pricing yet, should be around the same price as the 886.

I’m surprised no body has mentioned the new light on the new drill (DCD791/796). 60 lumens and you can leave it on a 20 min timer.

Saw that on the video, not sure if I will replace my current 20v compact drill, I use my 995 for heavy drilling, love the 3 speed of the drill! Maybe eventually I’ll replace it if the price is right.

So this is the updates to the compact drill versions, correct? I’d imagine so because this has a lot less power than the DCD995. Maybe an update to the big dog next year?

That is correct, replacing the compact brushless drills. (Brushed DCF885 and DCD780 are still available)

kornomaniacMember since Oct 2014

That PDF says 70newton hard torque. And 27 soft torque.

Isnt 27 newton soft torque a step back from previous offerings ?

Planning on putting my 886 on sale, seriously this is the one tool I’ve been waiting for, I’ve had some serious red envy and this out an end to that.
