Took a week off from work to start a project of opening up a wall to the foyer and living room and making our closet a little bigger…. Hopefully the pics come out.

The electric is a mess, gotta spend a lot of time on the new rough in and got some hardwood flooring to repair as well

MikeyBMember since Dec 2014

Removed the old 2X6 header and increased the opening to 12 ‘ with 2-2X12″X12’ Doug fir headers with 1/2″ plywood in the middle.. This is a non load bearing wall..tomorrow will rip out the existing 2×6 headers for the closet doorway and foyer and rework new headers to work within our plan..

My pics are a little blurry, I apologize for that guys, my I-pad screen is cracked.. I’ll try to get some better pics tomorrow

Looking good man!

Ripped out the rest of the old header/closet framing. Decided to recess the new 2X6 foyer header for a neater Sheetrock job, and framed out the new closet. Will start the electrical rough in tomorrow.

Coming along nicely! Would you consider boxing in the area above the closet that looks like it is going to end up being a shelf . just frame 2 little walls that connect from the top if the right side of the closet up to the ceiling. Unless you have a use for that space it might make it look neater and it will be one less place for dust to collect!

Thanks John, the wife and I were kicking that idea around yesterday… Looks like we are going to leave it as is for now, dress up the top with some crown and a nice vase with some flowers ( or something like that) Then down the line if we don’t like the look anymore I will frame it up to the ceiling and box it in with maybe an access door to access a storage area on the top

Started my electrical rough in yesterday, got a lot more done today. Have to finish up with stapling some door bell wire and box and mounting the high hat for the closet. Then insulate, repair oak flooring and Sheetrock..

Rock on! And God bless! Working on projects and learning from dad is the best. My old man is my go to for all things electrical. Don’t know what I would do without him.

Amen Poison…. My Dad is a Machine,,,, hard to keep up with him.. He is totally Old School,,, still uses his block planes, and his Yankee Screwdriver… Here are some pics of the flooring before the repair.. The old timers framed the partitions in these houses first on top of the sub flooring then installed the 3/4″ oak flooring…

Working on priming and painting the past couple of days, have to pick up the moulding this weekend and start working on that. Got a few more pics of some extra work I came across while working on this project.

I was able to remove a couple of the original hot water convectors and replace with some hot water baseboard for the heat, added a couple of new outlets, and in the second pic I tool advantage of the wall being open and installed a length of 1 1/2″ plastic electrical conduit for future wire runs from the attic to the basement.
