I installed glass block windows in my home over the weekend. After removing the old windows, I found that my 102-year-old structural terra cotta foundation had to end cap. I had to improvise
sweet, looks like they were suppose to be there nice job!
nice job sny7617!
102 years old and still looks good, nice job with the windows.
Thank guys after standing around for hour with my arms above my shoulders it was worth it. Very please with the results
I had glass block windows installed in my basement about 7 years ago. I was lazy and had someone do it. When I crunched the numbers with the quote I got it wasn’t worth taking on in my situation. It’s the best thing ever though as my basement is much warmer now after the crappy single pane windows were replaced. The job looks great syn and you probably did a better job that a contractor would have done because of your weird situation
Nice work sny, I love the look of glass block
yes as do i . also purchased a paint sprayer to paint the foundation will post pics when complete.
after landscaping
Looks really nice Syn!!
wow looks good man!
not bad for 102 years old. Will post photos of first floor project i complete 2 years ago.
Great job man
Awesome. Did they do a mortar or silicone install?
Looking good and nice work.
Good work sny and talk about adding some good looks to the house. That’s a nice look for your home.
You did a nice job. I need to do this to my basement windows. Are those breathers made special for glass block? I’ve never seen them used in this area, but would like something like that in my place.

On a long long shot here, the thread having laid dormant for awhile, but are there the pictures still available? I wish the forum changeover preserved the photos.
@DR99 Were the glass blocks already in a configuration in a certain size? Such as that they fit inside the opening of the existing window frame?
Yep karl if you go to HD or Lowes they have pre made drop in ready sections now

Nice, I saw one at a lumber yard in Lima but that was couple years ago, then I forgot about it till I came across this thread. I absolutely must take care of my basement windows, they were broken panes of glass, so I quickly put batts of insulation then screwed osb on from the outside for the winter since I had just bought the house… now that osb has got to come out and be replaced. .. I’ve let it go too long!

I had a guy do it. It was cheap like 30/40 a window for a small basement window. The old basement windows were so cheap I wish they used glass block back then.
