Here is a Coffee table I made with a concrete top. The base is just pine with pressure treated 4×4’s as legs with cherry stain. I used a black dye to make the concrete darker then the normal gray.

(I wanted it blacker but w/e) It’s 4’×3′

I want to seal it, but I’m not sure what to use yet.

This is my first furniture build btw.

Beautiful table wish you luck on moving day.

Looks really nice bddhome. I like the concrete counter top look. You have to have the right look to pull it off though. It’s more of an industrial look in some ways. Yea, I would seal that before anyone spills anything on it and stains it. I would get a really nice matte finish concrete sealer. I think high gloss would make it look too shiny.

That’s quite beautiful bdd.

I agree I don’t think a gloss will complement it. A matter finish would be best. THanks!

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

What did u use to polish the top with?

SwaglosrevivalMember since Oct 2014

I use melamine as a mold which maDE the concrete smooth and a little sheen already. But then rubbed in minwax paste wax

SwaglosrevivalMember since Oct 2014

First I used a concrete sealer from Hd

I’ve don’t concrete counters a few times. We actually polish the concrete up to 10,000 grit diamond pads and a wet polisher. We put glass in the concrete, glow sand, aluminum, various tumbled rocks. Lots of stuff. Maximizer had some really cool aggregate after you polish it down.

Wow. Yea im a rookie! Lol

You should make a video guide on how to do it.

I like it, now tell me. How many people did it require to move it into the living room or did you get a forklift? lol

dwainMember since Aug 2013

MikeyBMember since Dec 2014

Great job, I really like the concrete look

Very nice table Bddhome. You might take a look at Briwax to finish it. It can be used on concrete and comes in several colors also.

ScoszkoMember since Oct 2014

Nice table. Did you have to use a shaker to settle out any air bubbles?

Tim1963Member since Jul 2015

Nice, but will it crack easily?

WigWagWorkshopMember since May 2015

Interesting use of materials, looks great.

krutonMember since Jun 2015

That’s a sharp looking table. Nice work.

I would think depending on the support structure below and the unbraced span lengths any cracking should be minor and possibly more shrinkage cracks as opposed to anything structural. Also depends on the type of concrete used I guess. I typically deal with concrete for bridges so this may be a tad bit different[emoji16]
