Is there any of you who know what this attachment for.. It looks like it is for a fence..

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Wait, you (who works at DeWALT) are asking us? 😉

Looks like it’s for a rip fence /parallel guide, but no idea how you would secure it…

True..! I work for Dewalt but I do not know everything 😉

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

You know, us endusers expect guys like you and Gatorb to know everything 😛

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

I have no clue for that is

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

I always wonder what use that would serve.

RickyMcGrathMember since Oct 2014

I contacted Dewalt and they don’t know either.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Dewalt is so cool they put features in products they don’t even know about!!

Ha ha.. I think we got some productguys that knows..

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

Sounds like an unsolved mystery.

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

There’s a hole to the right of it isn’t there? It definitely looks like it’s for a parallel guide..is there one on the back as well?

I’ve seen the ts55 and it has the same setup as the dewalt,I’m thinking interchangeable between them???

We need a festool geek to step in..

I’ll chyme in Frain….and I’m NOT a geek. Well….at least my Mommy told me I’m not!

I would agree with Frain, Although my TS55REQ front looks different from that I’d bet that is a series of small support brackets to support the guide rail. You can see a small lip on each the obtrusions if you enlarge the picture. Maybe Mommy is wrong…I AM A GEEK!!!!!

Anyways, if I had to guess, this cuts down on material cost and maybe weight (but seriously not that much) but it appears to be the support portion of the shoe for the guide rail.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

And speaking of track saws….I still cannot get over the edge my TS55 leaves behind on rough plywood. Yesterday I was adding a 3/4″ piece to an existing prep table I had made so I can sit my Dewalt planer on it. The edge is so smooth. No sanding required. On general, purpose plywood!

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

I was going to like that comment but I’ve reached my quota for positive votes today!(as per every day!)

comp56Member since Sep 2014

I know exactly what that is…….that is a TCU-345 extension bracket for a DWH-504 that allows the DWR-564 to soften the effects from the DWU-403……

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

And now in English without the product numbers lol..

You’re on to something here! The DeWALT has that on both the front AND back…

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

I think Frain solved it.

Looking at the PA-TS55 rip fence from Festool it comes with 2 clips to secure it to the saw.

Now look at the way it secures on the TS-55 and look at the indents on the DWS520. Bet that fits like a glove!

I’m gonna shell out and buy one and let you guys know. That would be so great to use it with a fence as well!

And since there’s no green on that fence noone will know it’s a Festool….. hahaha 😀

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

Thank you, thankyou, thank you very much..I’ll just collect my TIA SHIRT and be on my way lol..

You’ll have let us know how it works out..

Kenneth DenmarkMember since Jun 2014

Come to Denmark and i will give you a Dewalt t-shirt and a cap..

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

@ Frain. I will. Just ordered it. Should be here in 2/3 days. Pics will follow.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Don’t fall for it Frain. He might lock you up in a room full with tools and wants you to go Sherlock on them

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

Hahaha classic,More than happy to be locked in a room with aload of tools..

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

Well done, only this week I was saying I wish there was the capability to add a rip fence. It must be a feature dewalt opted against releasing in the end as you not going to get privilege of the anti splinter strip.

Come to think of it, could it be used with the guide rail.?

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Perhaps they incorporated the feature on the saw only to decide later to come out with a rip fence or not, based on demand…

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Now that IS stupid. They do have a rip fence that attaches on both the front and back, but it’s exclusively for their wormdrive saw which you can’t get outside the US.

It wouldn’t fit. The bars on the Festool seem circular. The one you linked are rectangular.

Freakin’ nice saw though!

Last time I spoke with Jules he tossed the idea of taking one back home with him when he was on holiday in the US.

Don’t know if he did…

+ I would like to see a rip fence like that on regular circular saws. Much more stable than those flimsy ones that attaches only at the front.

Mr. Yellow wrote:

that is probably the answer…. or in a future release have the fence as an option…..

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

I was looking into getting a worm drive from the us. Only thing stopping me was not knowing if it’s possible to use on British electrical system.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

That’s the thing isn’t it. I’d like one, but I’d have to drag a power converter with it. Not worth it.

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

Don’t forget the blades are different dano! If u manage to snag a it on a nail and bugger the blade up,

Chances are your not going to be able to nip down to your local hardware store and pic another up..not without them ordering one in and waiting a few weeks anyway!

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

True. I thought you could easily bypass this by changing out the inner clamp washer/flange, but on the wormdrive it’s different than on sidewinders. You’d have to go see a metalworker with a cnc machine and make a new one that accepts 30mm bore size. The wormdrive has a diamond shaped arbor.

Or buy a bunch of blades from the US and resharpen them till they gone (and hope you’re not hitting nails) 😉

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

The rip fence should be here tomorrow… (along with the DeWALT DVC582 vac)

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

I never knew that about the blades, lucky I never ordered one. I would just have to buy them in bulk.

At the moment for framing I’m using the new thin framing blades on my circular saw, these blades are great they are so fast, cheap also so need to re sharper just buy new.

I got a few pics of my plunge saw today with the rail from one my routers in this bracket bit on the plunge saw, it fitted perfectly as did one from a festool router, I took the clips off of the festool router but couldn’t make it fit.

Does anyone know the centres of the festool rip fence or the dewalt worm drive fence.

I’ll post pics up now

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

I can’t get my pics on here from my ipad can I email them to someone and then they upload them?

Email sent

Just emailed you pics mate

dano_ukMember since Dec 2011

I’m sure this is exactly what it’s for.

Wish one of the designers and production team would post pics up of what they had designed.

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

There’s a lad at work with one of the old festool track saws,il have a talk with him and see what the centres on it are(that’s if it’s the same kind of setup) not to sure it is

rossi7xMember since Oct 2012

This is the ‘Official’ line for the Product Manager of the Saw…

The highlighted area of the tool on the photo below is as you said for a parallel side fence, DEWALT don’t actually make a fence but it will take the Festool parallel side fence that fits their TS 55

So you Guys are exactly right….

RickyMcGrathMember since Oct 2014

Awesome. That’s a game changer for the Dewalt Track Saw. I don’t always need the benefits of a splinter guard.

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Got the Festool PA-TS55 today. I can confirm it fits and it fits like a glove I must say.

It doesn’t have zero clearance ofcourse. You can see it in the pictures. However, on the front rod there’s a plastic tube. You can cut this off to create near zero clearance if you want to. Not really needed though.

Just like on the Festool TS55, you can flip the rip fence over and it then sits flush with the base of the saw, creating a wider base for more stability.

If you happen to use the DWS520 on a Festool (or similar track) and not DeWALT’s, you might need to file off a fraction of the bolts as the heads stick out underneath in the 2nd groove on the baseplate. See last picture. Not sure if it would interfere with the track……but it’s an easy fix.

Here are the pics…

That’s awesome. U know it wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer add a feature, for future add ons. I had an old sega genisis, that they later added sega cd to. The ports were there just plug and play. Maybe dewalt knew the answer but we’re tight lipped, so as not reveal future products.

chadlanthierMember since Mar 2013

Other thought is maybe these 2 companies share some intelect on the track saw.

Frain20Member since Feb 2014

Glad it fits, would of been a bummer if it didn’t..it looks mint with It on!!

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

Future product? I don’t think so to be honest. The tracksaw was launched in 2008. It’s almost 2015 now.

A bit long for something simple as a rip fence. I think there is no/not enough demand for more accessories for the tracksaw as there’s nothing new added since. Couldn’t think of any.

Would be nice to see an updated version where it’s easier to change the blade (locking the saw in the down position) and Airlock connector.

But one thing I would really like, I don’t know if Festool has it, but Mafell does, is when you cut angles. At 90degrees the blade is flush with the splinter strip, but cutting a 45 angle it will move approx 3mm away. Now you can use the tracks on both sides and have dedicated sides for 90 and angled cuts, but it would be better if the saw moved in such a way that it always meets the antisplinter strip regardless of the angle. A benefit is when you mess up one strip, you can still use the other side of the track.
