anybody have experience with this sliding miter saw? Good, bad etc?

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Nope Chris sorry.. U thinkin about getting it??

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

I actually am. My Ridgid will be replaced. I was thinking about a 12″ Ridgid but the older Milwaukee looks pretty sweet.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I have heard good things about the Milwaukee but it isn’t a very common miter saw at all. I would be concerned about parts and such if something ever did go wrong out of warranty.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

The Ridgid is nice for the Lifetime LSA. Its kind of a process to get it enrolled but its great piece of mind to have just in case.  Just member the LSA has had its issues with people getting things handled in a timely fashion too.

cwebbyMember since Mar 2014

Well up here in the great white north that saw is one of milwaukee’s best selling products at home depot and any milwaukee service center can easily fix them or has the parts. the accuracy of the digital is great but it also has old school marking for you to go by and the stand it comes with is easily to set up and take down. only thing is its a big saw so it takes up space and is fairly heavy. All my experience has been great i love this saw but hoping they come up with a new version sometime in 2015

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Thanks for that info DR and cwebby. By any chance do you know what the footprint will be? I’m buying my next saw as a predominantly stationary tool and would like to keep it as close to the wall as my micro shop permits.

regopitMember since Feb 2013

Come on Chris use the force. Deep down you really know you want this

Very nice Regopit. I want it 2…

BK13Member since Nov 2013

A slider is on my list… Thinking I will probably get the Bosch, but the DeWalt is in the running. Milwaukees are like hen’s teeth around here…

I wish I could justify a Festool, but I just can’t…

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Bite me Carroll.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Dude….seriously. I went to Woodcraft today and played around with it. My wife told me to buy it. What is wrong with me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

It’s the price tag. This set up belongs to my friend that’s a cabinet maker. I love this saw but I can’t bring myself to drop the bucks. My Dewalt  DW718 does a great job but I really would like to get the festool.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Okay, so you got the 718…does that have the light for the work piece?

regopitMember since Feb 2013

ChrisK1970 wrote:

It did not but, I bought one for $35.00 and added. It works great inside, outside in the sun it is useless. You can get it online. I got my from the DeWalt service center. Easy to install after I removed the handle cover it had the plug to hook it up.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

So your telling me ChrisK your wife was encouraging you to buy a Festool Kapex miter saw!?!?! You found a keeper there most wives will freak out if you buy a cheap Ryobi Drill 🙂 It’s good that she knows it a hobby you want to take up.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

Dude, you don’t know the half of it. Just before we got married she bought the Domino DF500! Then one of the guys saw me there and said…”man! You brought your fiancé? She won’t let you buy anything!” I just laughed.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Haha, you showed him 🙂

regopitMember since Feb 2013

You are a lucky man Chris. My wife and I had this discussion the other day as she was packing for the beach. I was on the fence about buying the Hole hawg. She look at me and shook her head saying ” as long as I have known you (we were 11) you have never pissed money away bills, family saving, has always on the top of the list. You have to start looking out for yourself more, It’s not like you’re going to buy it and it will never get used”. So I order it but I still can bring myself to spend $1,400 on the Kapex.

ChrisKMember since Dec 2012

That’s my problem too Regopit. Too responsible. I will say she is really pushing me but I am thinking about getting the Dewalt 780. I was going to go with a Bosch but no lighting is actually a big deal for me as my shop is in the base, met. Still, $1400 is $1400 and we just got married. I’d like to take her to Ireland next year and I can get the Dewalt for 460 reconditioned.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

The Dewalt might be tough with clearances with the slide. I don’t know how you plan to set up your basement shop though. you need a good foot or more of clearance behind the saw with my Bosch. It sucks some times. I would love to be able to but it next to a wall sometimes.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

I love my Bosch GCM12SD. So convenient to have it flush against the wall. Just install some nice shop lights in your basement and you wont have a problem anymore .P

The only problem I have with the bosch is all of the joints. Maybe in a shop it would ok but I move it from job to job.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Would you consider the Hitachi 12″ saw it has a compact sliding system. It’s also priced affordable its 309 at Big Sky Tool reconditioned, or 399 everywhere else new. Here is the link to big sky tool for the refurb http://bigskytool.com/Hitachi_C12RSH_12_Sliding_Dual_Compound_Miter_Saw_with_Laser_Marker_%28Reconditioned%29___i192.aspx

They also have a YouTube video going over how the saw functions

Trying to find a good review right now. Hitachi makes some good tools their pneumatic stuff is highly regarded. I just don’t hear a lot about their corded or cordless tools. They should send TIA a review saw 🙂

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

If my Makita LS1225 died tomorrow, I honestly don’t know what I’d replace it with.

Any other tool I own I can tell you exactly what I’d replace it with and where to find it the cheapest, but I honestly can’t say with the miter.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

you got a picture of that saw? I don’t find anything on the internet from your saw. Is it antic? 😀

You may have already figured it out, but the DW718 was replaced by the DWS780. The 780 comes with the light out of the box, and it’s actually 3 LED’s, so a lot brighter than the one you were able to just add on to the 718.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by the 780. It’s only 57 lbs if I remember correctly. Haven’t seen if Ridgid has come out with a new model recently but theirs could be used as a boat anchor and it was huge. The 780 also has the largest cutting capacity than any other 12″ slide on the market.

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

some really great informations right there

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Gator that 780 is on my Christmas list man:}

She’s happy alright. She had been drinking Guinness all day at the beer garden. This was taken in Ocean City Md. This past St. Patricks day woke up the next morning and had 8″ of snow on the ground.

. Got to love a lady that loves Guinness. My friends cannot get over the fact that a predominantly non drinker type like me LOVES Guinness.

So do you like your 718 for finish work? Also is the XPS light the same that comes with the other 780 saw!

I have no problem doing finish with it I just always check the blade for sq. and use a good blade as for the light I not sure but I like the add on one that I have . As for the Wife with a maiden name of O’Mooney how could she not like Guinness. The last time we were in Ireland she was big on the Snake Bite, Magners Cider on the bottom and Guinness floating on top.

That’s because I gave you the wrong model #. It’s actually LS1221. It’s a 12″, non-sliding, single bevel. I got this thing at a pawn shop a few years back in excellent condition for like $140. I don’t care much about dual bevel, but I would like to have a slider.

still looks to be in great condition conductor I know u take care of ur tools man

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

ya looks good man.

I don’t use my miter saw to the max capacity – but its good to know that I can if I have to 😛

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

I really try to mike. I make it a point after every project to take my compressor and blow all the dust off the surface and out of the vents and moving parts. I also try to lube any joints with dry lubricate that won’t cause saw dust to cake at least once a year.

Madman: I could take a damn nice vacation with all the money I’ve spent on tools just to have “capability” 😆

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

which dry lubricate do u use?

ya we spend a fortune on tools .P

BigmikezMember since Jun 2013

Yup we sure do conductor that’s why I’ve been on a tool dry spell man 🙁 my wife reminds me very month when we make payments to our credit cards but I remind her … It’s her fault for feeding my addiction lol!

madman_usMember since Sep 2014

just count how much “wifes” spend on lotions, make-up, clothes – so I think we can spend our party on tools 😛

Any graphite based spray lube will do. I typically use Liquid Wrench dry lube. It’s graphite but uses a liquid catalyst that dries to leave only the graphite.

With Mrs. Conductor I have a limited disclosure policy on tool purchases. I tell her only about the shit she finds out about 😉
