Ultimate Tool Bag 4 – What do you want to see?

Archived from the Tools In Action forum (Ultimate Tool Bag Giveaway). This thread is read-only.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

So here we are, gearing up for the 4th installment of the TIA Ultimate Tool Bag giveaway. If you’ve been around TIA awhile you know the UTB is the best tool giveaway on the internet. Twice each year some lucky guy or gal gets a ton of awesome tools while the rest of us shed a tear(s) of envy.

This time around we want to get the membership involved. Use this section to start a thread, and talk about the tools you want to see. It can be tools you have that you recommend, or tools you don’t have but would like to have. Make a compelling case for your tool and come July, it might just be there.

Post away boys!

djslaterMember since Jan 2014

The one tool that TIA uses in almost every video (and maybe they’ve given it away before), is the Rockwell Jawhorse.

It’s on my short list of tools to get….because you need it for every job, but don’t NEED it for every job…you know what I mean?

It’s one of those things I would use for everything, but since it isn’t a required tool to finish one job, I never find the need to buy it, and wind up spending that $200 on another tool REQUIRED to complete the project.

KatoMember since Jan 2014

The ultimate tool bag for me would have a bunch of Ryboi One+ stuff in it…

Narrow-crown stapler

JobPlus with multi-tool head

Multi-tool jigsaw head (which is Rigid but fits the Ryobi)

Angle grinder

Corner cat sander

Orbital jigsaw

Caulking gun

SDS rotary hammer

1/2″ impact

….and of course some batteries, can’t forget the batteries

That should all fit nicely into a tool bag. I mean hell, since we’re going all hypothetical here why not fill that X-mas list early. Oh, and the Jawhorse, that’s a pretty good idea too, throw in a couple of those.

“Make a compelling case”…well, they’re tools, we’re men, men love tools. How much more compelling can you get?

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Being a staff member excludes me from giveaways, but I like seeing the M12 stuff in there. It’s still hot right now and I have no doubt we’ll see some more good stuff in the coming months.

Cordless nailers are hot right now too.

Damn, I’m gonna have to resign so I can enter 😉

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

The m18 6 peace combo kit and maybe some accessories.. Thats it! Anybody would be happy with that.

frankiegarcia19Member since Jan 2014

↑Fuel of course.. TIA does nothing but the best;)

JackTranMember since Dec 2013

Here is my wishlist:

M18 1/4″ impact driver w/ XC 4.0 batteries

M18 Jigsaw

M18 Grinder

M18 Led Flood Light

M12 Heated Jacket

M12 3/8″ Ratchet

To be honest, any Milwaukee product would do.

Punda1991Member since Dec 2013

Milwaukee tools is a must! Flood light, Bluetooth radio, sds+ cordless m18, pack of inkzalls, fuel grinder and 1/2 impact wrench!!! Impact socket sets, wera screwdrivers set….. I can go all day lol oh fuel 12v combo hammer drill and impact driver….

BrienMember since Dec 2013

I know it is out of reach but the m12 thermal imager would make me cry… and I am a grown man.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

Great suggestions guys.

Don’t be afraid to start a separate thread for your ideas. That will make gathering data easier for us when filling the UTB list 😉

BALDISBEAUTIFULMember since Jan 2012

All the Tool Bag give-a-ways have been GREAT. Any chance you can add an AR-15 or a COLT 44MAG?

The DeWalt Nail gun is a good start. Looking forward to seeing what else goes into BAG #4.

JavierMember since Aug 2013

I second the idea of a cordless 18v rotary hammer. I just did a bazillion 1/2″ holes with a hammer drill and boy did I wish I was using a rotary hammer instead. Moze has me wanting that Bosch brushless 18v rotary hammer but I’m already invested in Milwaukee so a m18 rotary hammer would do. The full size is more attractive as the compact doesn’t have all the features I’m interested in.

DR99Member since Nov 2012

I would also expect to see a brushless M18 rotohammer next Milwaukee event possibly sooner. Milwaukee will do releases like the radio between events also the same thing happened with the M12 fuel sds.

Former memberMember since Dec 2012

Any brand rotohammer. Tough boxes or tstaks would be great too.

kevin.shelton25Member since Feb 2014

besides the dcn692 thats already in there id like to see a m18 sawzall since its the king of sawzalls imo

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

Dewalt thermal image camera would be sooooooo cool.

I am saving up for the bare tool. But they are very expensive over here.

Conductor562Member since Nov 2011

The Dewalt is 5 and Dime stock compared to the hefty $2500 list on the red model 🙁

EEtwidgetMember since Dec 2013

If I were to put together the ultimate tool bag it would have to include some basic tools for the renascence builder. That means hand tools for automotive, power tools for carpentry, and specialty tools for electrical. Obviously I am a bit biased towards the electrical/electronic tools but the list below, in my opinion, are basic tools everyone should own.

Electrical/Electronic:

Multimeter: Fluke 87V or Fluke 116

Even if you have no interest in becoming an electrician, a meter is a very important tool to own. Once you master its basic functions, electricity will be demystified and you can safely/confidently work on mains power. When it comes to measuring line voltage, don’t ever buy a cheap HF meter. Your trusting your life to the design of the meter and its not worth saving a few bucks. I have had many meters but nothing as nice as my Fluke 87V. It is my go to meter for everything from checking if a plug is live, and can even be used to troubleshoot circuit boards. The 87V is a bit pricy but it’s worth it. For basic electrical use I would recommend the Fluke 116 HVAC meter. Because its an HVAC meter, you get temperature and micro amp readings. Both are extremely handy test.

Soldering Iron: Hakko FX888D

At some point we all use a soldering iron, some more than others. If you find yourself soldering more than 5x a year it would be in your favor buying the Hakko FX888D Soldering Iron. Sure it looks like a cartoon come alive but it will make short easy work of your next project. You can find this iron at the $100 price point, and likely it will be the last iron you every buy. Tips are replaceable and cheap. Throw away that cheap, nonadjustable iron, and step up to a real tool.

Precision Screwdrivers: Wiha

When it comes time to opening the case, you will need a really tinny screwdriver. Wiha is a Germany company who is known in the industry for making quality drivers. They have a range of products, everything from ESD protected drivers to regular drivers. You can buy small sets or master sets that combine 200+ pieces with storage trays.

Screwdriver: Klein

Im willing to bet we all have a few Klein drivers in our tool bag. If you only own one screwdriver make it the Klein 11-in-1. If were talking about the ultimate tool bag, a full set of Klein drivers is called for!

Pliers: Klein Limited Edition Camouflage Side Cutting Pliers

If there is a cooler set of side cutters on the market, I haven’t seen them. Then again I might be biased because I’m a Veteran! With the camo pliers you get a rugged Klein tool and your supporting our troops. A win-win for everyone and worthy UTB giveaway!

Network: Klein Scout Pro

Reviewed on TIA, this looks to be a great multi network tester. One I most certainty would love to win!

Punch-Down: Klein VDV Cushion-Grip Impact

Another TIA reviewed products, the small form factor and simple design of this punch down tool make it a must have!

That’s all for now, I’ll be back with more recommended tools for wood working/carpenters.

ToolGuy18Member since Mar 2014

Festool track saw would be a awesome addition

KatoMember since Jan 2014

I’d love a track saw but I’ll never be able to buy one and my chances of wining one are about the same as me becoming president.

1Austin_Ray1Member since Feb 2014

i would like to see any good hand tools (drivers, pliers, strippers, etc.). I would also like to see any 18v/20v drill/ driver and impact combos and any m12 tools.

Thanks guys y’all are awesome!

Jeff NMember since Dec 2013

What i would like to see in the 4th tool bag? well soon enough its going to start to get warm outside. so why not some tools like a radio or something that we could use outdoors while on the job site or having a good time over the weekend with our friends and family.

WthompsonMember since Mar 2014

It be awesome to have a m18 fuel 1/2 impact wrench. Everyone know how much a compressed can be a pain in the rear end when you are working in a tight space.

JimmijoMember since Feb 2014

I agreed, Rockwell Jaw horse will be nice in the UTG;)

I also would like to have 3/8 version of the Ingersoll Rand R3150 1/2-Inch Cordless 20V RatcheMac tools and the Ingersoll Rand W7150 1/2 In. 20 V High-Torque Impact Wrench Aka King of the Nut Busters or the new Mac tool 20v and 12v line, since I’m dewalt everything guys. I would love to have them for working on cars and my truck, my dewalt for building and work. Dewalt Tough box system set would be very nice as well. I did know. I personal think whatever are in the UTG would be nice anyway. Because whoever get it would be happy for life time;)

EEtwidgetMember since Dec 2013

I vote Kato for President! Your chances are a spot better winning the toolbag then becoming president, your an active member.

EEtwidgetMember since Dec 2013

The Festool track saw is a great addition, I would like to see an orbital sander, Dewalt, Ridgid, or Milwaukee

CoffeyMember since Oct 2013

Some Tools in Action gear would be nice. Shirts, stickers, what ever you all have.

MR. DMember since Mar 2014

TIA(Tools In Action) you are some bamfs man. I have subscribed to everything i can find involved with TIA to support you guys as well as to win the Ultimate tool bag giveaway. My tools got stolen a while back and i still haven’t quite recovered from it so this tool bag giveaway would be a real game changer for me.

The ultimate tool bag giveaway for myself would be: Veto pro Pac backpack, dewalt DCS355D1(brushless multi tool), some tough boxes, klein auto range multi-meter, Stilletto titanium nail puller, Klein screwdriver set, 1/2 and 3/4 Ridgid pex criming tools, Knipex 09 12 240 SBA linesman pliers, Knipex long nose pliers, 50′ Ridgid 10/3 ext. cord, Franklin 710 stud finder and a box of large blue atlas brand gloves. Only in a perfect world though haha. Massive thanks to Tools In Action, Veto Pro pac Dewalt, Festool, and Rolinair you guys rock!

DR99Member since Nov 2012

Sorry to hear that MR.D there is a special place in hell for people that steal another mans tools. It’s up there on the worst things ever. Well don’t know about winning the toolbag but if you comment on the video’s and are active on the forums they do take care of the TIA members with other cool stuff.

cwallace13Member since Mar 2014

Hey guys, I am new the forum but have been watching the videos religiously for about 6 months (won’t purchase a new tool until I have seen the TIA review first).   I wouldn’t mind seeing some type of lights, ie… head lamps, hand held, stand mounted, recharable, electric… in the toolbag.  I always forget how important good lighting is until I need it.  Thanks for all the great reviews and videos.  Keep up the good work.

wsm0807Member since Mar 2014

How about some PPE? Some good glasses, gloves, work tunes ear muffs, one of those big foam kneeling pads (clc). Power Tools are great butif you lose an eye using them you are just the moron who didn’t wear safety glasses.

wayneburgessMember since May 2012

This tool bag give away is just fantastic.

Some lucky person is going to have a very very nice surprise 🙂

Highdesert SplintermakerMember since May 2013

Never have won one of TIA’s tool giveaways but that’s okay and not the reason I enjoy this forum. Everyone here seems to really appreciate the viewpoint, experience, limitations, and aspirations of others. It’s a real world for each of us. That’s just plain COOL!

But, on the other hand, there are a few tools I wouldn’t mind confronting the problem of having to make space in my shop to accommodate. My ideal tool bag would include any of the following;

1.) an IOU for the next generation Steel City 8″ helical bench top jointer. [it won’t be released ’till this Fall’s Tool Show.]

2.) The Steel City model 40200h 13″ helical planer.

3.) Any top quality (Johnson, etc.) self-leveling cross-line laser level kit.

4.) a Franklin ProSensor 710 Stud finder

5.) almost any brand 18 – 20 volt impact driver with the higher capacity battery and compatible driver tools

6.) a Dust Deputy vortex separator to piggy back with my Shop Vac

7.) an iVAC automated Shop Vac switch

8.) a good quality burnishing tool for rolling the hook on scraper blade edges.

9.) a Wood River #5 bench hand plane

10.) set of Stanley Sweetheart socket wood chisels

11.) a Leigh Super 12″ dovetail jig and accessory kit

12.) a Milwaukee 2¼ Max HP EVS multi-base router kit

13.) a pair of drawboring pins would come in handy

14.) a doweling plate would be cool too

and the list could go on and on – and so could we all! Isn’t that just the nature of being addicted to doing things with our hands?

DCD985#1Member since Mar 2014

Ask Bosch for a 10/12″ gliding miter saw, I’d like to see one of the new m12 fuel hackzall and maybe a m12 fuel impact and drill. I wonder if porter cable would donate a 4 tool 20v combo kit. What about a $50 gift card to ACE, Lowes, or Home Depot. You guys should contact ridgid about a table saw. I’d also like to see some m18 Dewalt 20v/12v and some IG mechanic tools, but that was already a handful and some TIA t shirts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was a kid the back window of my VW GTI was smashed in and all of my tools were stolen. I’m talking 20-30 tools ranging in Black and Decker, Skill, Ryobi quality (No offense Kato). I did get some insurance money out of it and it covered 5 Dewalt 18V tools that I still have today. This Giveaway would mean a lot of good to a lot of people.

How about a channellock pliers set?

175yamahaMember since Apr 2014

I would love to see the Miluakee M12 3/8 rachet, the Miluakee Inspection Camera, and the DeWalt (20?) volt Grease gun. I know that the chances of me winning are 1:17000 but I am still very exited!

custom hard hat with the Tia sticker logo repeated all over it…

A pouch out of a range the winner can pick from

Dewalt flex torque bits and adapter

Hard hat should be like this but with the TIA logo replacing the dollars

Fieldpiece Sman4 or fieldpiece sdp2

Mr. YellowMember since Jan 2011

A quality pair of earmuffs. Working with powertools usually requires hearing protection.

Something like the Peltor X-series. In yellow ofcourse!

Highdesert SplintermakerMember since May 2013

Eureka!  I have it. This year’s tool prize should be a tool you can use to make other tools, just about any hand tool you wanted, or even some of those tricky to make parts. If you can draw the tool or part or find a drawing of the tool or part you could create it with your own 3 dimensional home printer. How’s that for a TIA UTB giveaway idea?

JimmijoMember since Feb 2014

Just thought of this, how about some safety gears in the UTBG. I meant safety first is one of the main things for work protection. Man, I just hurt my foot with some 2by6s fall right on my right foot and busted my big toe opened. All because I was wearing my slipper walking about in my storage . Some nice steel toe boots would be awesome and a nice set of fall protection harness as well would be great. I see some one mentioned about some custom hard hat and ear protection as well. I would love to see some safety gears as a addition in the UTBG 4. Work safely guys and remember safety first! 😉
