Hey all. So I just bought this planer today. I have setup up the in/out feed plates to their proper level.
Now, the problems are these.
1. The lock head bar shown in the photo won’t stay down. I go to press it down and it lowers fine but as soon as I take my had away it springs back up. It won’t stay locked down.
2. I cannot seem to feed wood into the machine. It appears to be hitting the metal comb things that I have circled in the photo. The rollers are rolling fine and the blade is spinning, it’s just that I can’t get in there because of the metal combs blocking me.
Any answers much appreciated!

I think the lock bar spring might be misaligned. Also, check if the anti-kickback fingers are stuck; they should move freely as wood feeds.
The lock head bar issue often means the mechanism needs a slight adjustment or lubrication. For the feeding problem, check if the metal comb parts are aligned correctly; they sometimes sit too high on a new machine. I recently refreshed my own setup with good results using fresh planer blades from the collection at planer blades, which solved similar snagging on my unit.
